“Good location in Old Town”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Me and my boyfriend stayed here early June and had a lovely time in Dubrovnik. It was a great location - though be sure to close the shutters and windows as we found it rather noisy - closing windows helped a little. Only thing that let down our stay here was that we had no hot water for our last night - was told to wait 20 mins - still no hot water after an hour so had to go with a freezing cold shower. Bit annoying especially as we woke up next morning ready to leave and STILL no hot water, the lady said it may have been because everyone was having showers but we waited and there was no hot water still.. Apart from this, our little room was fine! Roof terrace was lovely too!

Room Tip: Other rooms we saw were lovely and had kitchen use too, our room was little but fine for a flying vi...

We arrived at Roko House to a really warm welcome. When you walk upstairs you can smell fresh washing and the place is pristinely clean everywhere. We stayed in the 3rd floor studio apartment which was beautiful. There is a roof terrace for the building which you can use that looks out over the rooftops of the old town. The rooms have clearly just been decorated in a shabby chic style (however there is nothing shabby about this place!) and compliment the building perfectly. The fixtures are all top quality and everything has been styled really well. The king sized bed was really comfortable too. In fact all in all I could rave on about this place all day! It's a hidden gem in a unique place.

We stayed at Roko House in early May for a few nights and had a brilliant time. We were greeted with a smile, even when we weren't smiling (after hours of flight delays) and made to feel very welcome. The room itself was clean and tastefully decorated but just what you needed for a short break. The real highlight was the location - you really couldn't be any more central in Dubrovnik's beautiful old town.

Our stay (beginning of April) was quite pleasant ; the rooms were lovely, very comfortable, with a "coin-cuisine". The pizzeria had not opened yet, so it was very quiet ; there are only 3 rooms, on the second, third and fourth floor... and stairs to climb !
Ljerka welcomed us very nicely (with a gift) and was very helpful : she phoned everywhere to find the wallet I had lost in Zagreb Airport, and it arrived at Dubrovnik Airport the same evening !
There are also 3 apartments, in front of the rooms, but they are not so lovely, smaller, without kitchen.

We had never been to Dubrovnik before and were absolutely blown away by the beauty of the city. The old town is car-free and Roko House is very conveniently situated a couple of minutes' walk from the Pile Gate (the main gate where you enter from the bus station, taxi rank etc). Roko House wasn't hard to find - follow signs to the Ethnographic Museum or Mea Culpa Pizzeria, which is just opposite. The owner met us on arrival and was charming, as was her husband who we spoke to on the phone when asking to leave our bags in the room on the last day (they were more than happy to let us do this). The studio was small but beautifully furnished and comfortable; the little roof terrace is a perfect place to stargaze with a nightcap. Despite being so central we didn't find the room noisy (this may be partly because the pizzeria downstairs was closed when we were there). We stayed for 3 nights and wished we had longer.

We selected this on the basis of previous reviews. It did not seem to us to live up to them. We were upgraded to an apartment from the double room we had ordered. I had inferred that all rooms offered some cooking facilities but this seemed not to be the case. Although this was the most expensive apartment that we stayed in during our trip, it had the poorest facilities for cooking.
It does have a very good location - only a couple of hundred metres from the Pile Gate and on the flat core of the City rather than on one of the steep streets on either side. It was nice to be able to go to concerts in the church at the end of the street. If we visited Dubrovnik again though I would look for somewhere with better facilities such as a decent kitchen, washing machine, etc.
