We went up on the cable car and admired the breath-taking views of Dubrovnik.
While up there we saw a sign for the Taverna Konoba Dubrava and decided to walk down the road to it for some authentic lunchtime cuisine rather than dine at the cable car restaurant..... which I'm sure would have also been nice ;0)
Off we set down the hill, we were feeling very happy and carefree, singing songs from the 'Sound of Music' admiring the view and taking photographs as we went.
We soon arrived at Bosanka a small village, that had seen a lot of bomb damage, the village had lost a lot of loved ones, in the tragic war that took place.
There was a war memorial to commemorate the loss of life from Bosanka.
We walked some more and were seriously beginning to think we were lost as we didn't think it was as far down, then suddenly there it was.... like a mirage.
But not a mirage but a very real Taverna...
We sat outside and ordered two large beers and were in heaven as we deliberated over the menu and what we should order..
We ordered Biftek Dubrava medium rare and could hardly wait.
What a brilliant last day, a cold beer, a wonderful atmosphere of happy dinners and birthday party revellers being serenaded by musicians..
The Biftek Dubrava soon arrived and it was the best.......
It melted in my mouth and was so tender and so flavoursome.
I kept saying to my husband "pinch me, pinch me, I must be dreaming"
What an amazing lunch, so happy we decided to go there.
While drinking our second beer, we seriously contemplated staying there all day. we worked out that we could order the lamb in a bell which required three hours notice. But we knew that wasn't an option that we had to get back and pack.
The staff at Taverna Konoba Dubrava were just so lovely (see pics).
We paid our bill, said our goodbyes and left to walk back up the hill to the cable car.
N:B We did actually start to walk down the hill thinking we could get on the road and walk back into Dubrovnik that way. But after about 30 minutes we realised to our horror, that we would be only able to walk into Dubrovnik on the busy motorway. So we had to turn round and walk back up the hill past the Taverna Konoba Dubrava again and on to the Cable Car.
Let's just say we were not singing songs from the sound of music on the way back :0(
