Secret Apartments Dubrovnik

Reviewed 29 April 2014

We stayed in the 2nd floor apartment pictured, with the floral lounge suite and white furniture. It is an apartment for two, with a comfortable double bed, modern bathroom with bath and shower, a compact but workable kitchen and huge windows that open onto an alley leading to the main plaza at the end of the Placa, opposite the church of St Blaize. It is very well equipped and very comfortable, although it is a little noisy as it is in the centre of everything with the hustle and bustle of restaurants below and the church bells ringing regularly. However there is a classical guitarist who plays outside every night when things become quieter and the cruise ship tourists have disappeared and the music will fill the apartment which is absolutely lovely.

We were dropped off at the gate at the opposite end of the Placa (not the port end) and it was a flat level 2 mins walk to the apartment (there is a ramp at the gate), then 2 flights of stairs within the apartment.

Our stay in Dubrovnik was wonderful. Everything was in easy walking distance, including a couple of supermarkets and a small daily farmers market in the square behind the apartment. This square leads to another small square where there is a workers cafe which has 7kuna coffees, which is a lot cheaper than the ones on the placa at 24kunas! We tried different restaurants for every meal and they were all good, and so many to choose from.

Walking the walls at 8am was brilliant, we even watched a movie being shot at the port with 2 tall ships and everyone in Renaissance dress. Our trip to the fortress by cable car was memorable too. Dubrovnik was defended valiantly during the recent war and our tour guide told us about being evacuated as a child and how it took three years for her family to return to Dubrovnik and how they rebuilt their lives, and the town. You can still see the shrapnel and bullet holes around the town in the buildings. Dubrovnik is certainly an interesting destination, with a long history, and the apartments are the perfect place to experience it all.

I have used Butterfly Services three times now over the span of a year, and each time I have been absolutely thrilled with them. I have stayed in three of their rental properties (2 inside the walls of the old city in Dubrovnik and 1 just outside) and each property was stunning. Viktor and Isabelle go out of their way to welcome you, to help with any arrangements you might need (e.g., airport transfer, rental car, parking, etc.) and to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. I really cannot recommend them highly enough!

Isabelle & Viktor of Butterfly Services did a great job helping us coordinate a group of 11 people with places to stay in Dubrovnik. We ended up at 4 different locations. La Dolce Vita & Secret IV were the best of the 4 locations. Both apartments were clean & very centrally located in the old town. Felt like locals walking to get our coffee by the local market in the AM. Viktor went out of his way to give us advise on places to eat & drink & his recommendations were spot on.

All correspondence about the apartments beforehand was responded to quickly. We were met at the airport and transferred to the Secret Apartment which is within the historic walls. It is in a fabulous position right around the corner from St Blaise, the main cathedral as well as the Stradum. There are no stairs to the building but about 40 stairs inside to the apartment. We wanted some extra space for our adult son and it was perfect. He had his own bedroom and bathroom and we had ours. In between was a small kitchen with a table and chairs, a few appliances, a stove and a fridge which was enough for us as we only had breakfast there. If you didn't need the second bedroom you could use it as a lounge area. Everything was very clean and new. Help was at hand if we needed it. The recommended restaurants were fabulous and we walked everywhere as we were not far from anything. It was lovely at night to hear music from the cathedral or square but otherwise it was very quiet. We had a wonderful time and were very happy with the service. They collected us from the apartment on our last day and walked us to their agency just outside the gates where we left our bags until later in the day when we had arranged for their driver to return us to the airport. I would definitely stay there again.

Fantastic location in the heart of the old town. The apartment was on the top floor with views over the roof tops towards the city walls. It's a comfortable spacious apartment that is well appointed and clean. Everything about the past week was perfect beginning with a helpful meet and greet at the airport and Viktor's welcome at the gates of the old town. His tips provided good recommendations for eating places and sights to see around Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik has to be one of the prettiest places I've ever had the pleasure to visit. The Church bells are pretty loud but it adds to the charm of the location.

We stayed in the Duplex apartment in early October. The bedroom and bathroom are on the lower floor with the open plan living room in the upper storey which is actually the roof space of this lovely old building. It was lovely, clean and well appointed. The open plan kitchen was fine and you could have self catered with no problem other than you are surrounded by great places to eat all over Dubrovnik. The location is fantastic, absolutely at the heart of the old town, so no walking up and down the steep sides of the city. It is right next to St. Blaise church but beware the bells! and those of the Cathedral that bong out of sync with those of the church. Other than that the apartment is extremely quiet. It is on the top floor so there are a few steps to climb if that is an issue for you.
Our flight arrived extremely early and we had asked for an early booking in if that was possible. Sorted easily and we arranged to meet a staff member at a nearby statue, really friendly and efficient. I had read the reviews prior to going but the apartment was actually better than expected. (Only gripe being no hook for the shower hose so had to hold it over our heads). Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in the heart of a historic location.

Room Tip: Stayed in Duplex apartment and as just two of us didn't use the rather unusual raised bed are in...

The perfect place from which to explore Dubrovnik, right in the heart of town. Both comfortable and elegant, this well-equpped apartment was even nicer than we expected from the other good reviews we read.
