Valamar Argosy Hotel
Ranked #20 of 68 Hotels in Dubrovnik
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 10 May 2012

The view from the dining area is spectacular, certainly the best in a hotel I've seen in Europe. Very handy to get to Dubrovnik Old Town, the 6 bus stops yards away. Staff are friendly and very helpful. We stayed for a week on half board and, apart from lunch, did not eat anywhere else - there was no need. The variety of food was excellent and well cooked and the house wines were fine. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We hope to return soon. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room with a sea view. Worth paying extra.Spectacular views of the islands.

A wonderful well managed 3 Star hotel. Excellent ford and great location just a few steps away from the sea.
Th staff are very helpful, most of the rooms have been refurbished and are air conditioned. More rooms are being upgraded on an ongoing basis.

Room Tip: choose a room with sea view.

This is a very good hotel in nice surroundings and nice sea views. The hotel is like the old
holiday camps because of its size and architecture, which is very communistic in style. The rooms were excellent and were well looked after each day. The food in the restaurant was of
good quality and was served with a smile.Unfortunately the noise levels in the restaurant are unacceptable and some people could not tolerate it. The people at Reception were magnificent
and really tried hard to meet all our needs. Bar service in the foyer left alot to be desired and
many clents had unhappy experiences. I found the hotel too far from the old town despite a good bus service. Overall a very pleasant hotel which could be first class.

Room Tip: Get a room with a sea view.

Dear IStephano,

Thank you very much for choosing Argosy hotel for your holiday and we're glad you liked it.
We highly appreciate your comments.
We all try our best, so I'm glad you've noticed that during your stay.
I am sorry to hear that you found restaurant too noisy. Unfortunately, due to bad weather conditions we couldn’t use outside terraces to cope with that issue. I’m sure in that case, your stay would be more pleasant.
Until your next visit, all the best from Argosy team!

Spent a week here recently with a tour group. Firstly, It rained practically every day while we were there so be aware that that may have affected my overall experience here. I thought the hotel was "ok". It seems to cater for lots of tour groups here, which means lots of congregating in the lobby area and the restaurant can get a bit mental, especially between 7-8 pm. Lots of noise, queuing for food, and lots of criss-crossing of people as they weave around between the different counters. The food was pretty good, though lacked seasoning. Plenty of options, so everyone should find something to their taste. Fresh Fish cooked by a chef at a grill every night, and also freshly cooked chicken/turkey/beef . Fresh pizzas are also available. Lots of salad options, and some cooked vegetables. Soups were very watery and disappointing. Apart from that no real complaints except for all the shuffling around as people are up and down from the table to replenish. Waitresses available to get wine/drinks. I thought the wine very expensive in the restaurant for mediocre flavour, but that is how they are making their money. They could do with having free hot water/tea/good coffee available in the restaurant for after dinner. The coffee that is available in the restaurant is the worst coffee I have ever tasted, no exaggeration, tastes like some strong heavy instant coffee that had been sitting for hours. Undrinkable. Good coffee is available at the bar downstairs.
Some of the tour-groups were teenagers at sports tournaments, rather lively as you would expect, and a few of our group had issues with noise at night . Be warned!
The room : - I got a lovely sea-view from my room with a small balcony area which was a nice bonus. Room was clean and spacious , I would describe it as functional with a spartan feel. Nothing luxurious. A bit drab, but then everything felt like that with the bad weather.
One problem though is that there was an incredible amount of noise from the rain pouring from the roof/gutters onto the patio tiles outside the room. I had to go out each night and put down one of my bath-towels to counter the loudness of it in order to get some sleep. (And I am a very sound sleeper!). I did mention it to the hotel reception so hopefully it will be resolved soon. Other people in our group had similar experiences. Bring your ear plugs.
Staff at the hotel were friendly , hard-working, and spoke good English. There is free wi-fi which is great. Hotel provided a couple of ok singers/guitar players in the bar at night, which was also nice. Drinks measures were not generous, and at tourist prices. Better value options available in town/locally.
There is a regular bus service into town (no 6) across the street which brings you right into the old-town (last stop is the Pile Gate entrance). Tickets are 10 Kuna at the hotel shop,(about 1.30 euro) and are activated when you stamp them on the bus and last an hour. There are no return tickets on buses here by the way, you need 2 singles. There are a couple of shops/restaurants near the hotel, and the Presidente hotel down the road has a heated pool for a charge if you want a swim/sauna/spa experience.
So to sum it up, hotel was ok, would have been nice to see the sun streaming through the windows as other guests have described, which would have given a more cheerful feel to things .. I wouldn't choose it as a romantic get-away, but in a tour group it was fine.

There are plenty of good hotels in Dubrovnik, and Argosy is surely among them. The hotel is nice, clean and comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful and well kept – and the breakfast rich and tasteful. But – I have visited other hotels in this lovely part of Croatia, and can compliment some of them with the same. What make this hotel special are the people working there. So helpful, friendly and caring for their quests! You give a little smile to any of the staff, and get a bigger back! You can go to the reception and ask for something extra, and as long as it´s possible they fix it. It seems like the people working at Argosy really like their jobs, and that the communication between the staff is extra good. This contributes to the nice atmosphere, and the feeling of being welcome as a quest. Thank´s for a lovely week in mid of October! My husband and I surely come visiting again!

This hotel has a superb location with idyllic views (if you get a sea view) but easy access to the city i.e. the best of both worlds. The food is excellent and dining in the evening is superb with the rays of the setting sun flooding the whole area. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the whole place has an atmosphere of space and peace. Although the pool area is limited you, can visit the adjacent four star hotel to use their beach with its great vistas. Boat trips to the Elephantine islands from the neighbouring jetty complete the experience.

Room Tip: Rooms at the end of the building with sea views are well worth it

Just returned from a short break staying at Argosy. Was ideal for what we wanted. On bed and breakfast but ate in hotel one evening and food choice excellent and value for money.Local bus service near hotel to Old Town every 15 minutes.Ok it may be busy at times but only a short journey and adds to the atmosphere of being in a foreign country.Room basic but very clean and comfy beds.Staff at hotel friendly and especially reception who were most helpful. We called into President hotel for a drink but came out after 15 minutes as no one came to serve us!!!Argost staff always there and polite.
All in all I recommend others to stay here.
