A little late in writing this review but just had to do it. Stayed at the fabulous Valamar Argosy in late June and had a great time. Arrived disappointly in pouring rain but it brightened up the next day and allowed us to do some sightseeing in Dubrovnik reached by bus at the end of the road, which is the last stop so you always know where to get on and off!

The hotel itself is fabulous, if a little dated on the outside but the rooms were lovely. We changed our room twice - the staff were so accommodating - as we wanted a room with a sea view and boy did we get it. We had room 158 which was located right at the front of the hotel by the play area and every time we opened the curtains in the morning we had the most fantastic view of the sea and the island opposite - magical! So thank for accommodating our needs, much appreciated.

We were halfboard and expected to go out most nights as other places we have stayed the food has not been good but there was no need to at the Valamar as the food was excellent plus who could deny we had the best view every evening from the outdoor restaurant especially watching the evening sunset which was to die for. Breakfast was equally as good, one morning I counted 10 different fruits and as I am not into fried stuff the light breakfast counter was so appreciated -could not fault the food in any way. The pool area was amazing clean and the pool itself great for doing lengths plus being infinity allowed you once again to gaze longingly at the fantastic view and pretend the workplace was on another planet!

The one night we did go into Dubrovnik we went to the Restaurant "with the best view in Dubrovnik" just as you get off the bus, I think it was called the Terrace but not sure. Anyway it was fantastic with lovely food and a view over the castle and sea to die for. A lovely place for a special meal.

But back to the Argosy, so worth a visit with walks both ways from the Hotel, one to reach the harbour where the cruise liners come in and the other a lovely cliff walk taking in beautiful views and fabulous Cliffside hotels. A must to visit is the Cave Bar attached to the MORE hotel where a cocktail bar has been built into the side of the cave with fairy ceiling lights - magical!

So thank you everyone at the Valamar for making our stay so pleasant and lovely, we shall return, just wish we had stayed longer than 7 days and that we had more than 4 days of sunshine!

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Always always go for a seaview room as the views are stunning. Although we were on the ground floor...

Had a brilliant stay here with my boyfriend. The hotel is clean and recently refurbished.
The pool area is probably the best I've ever had in a hotel, gorgeous infinity pool with jacuzzi beds within the pool! It is very new as the pool area was completely redone during early 2014 I think so I wouldn't expect any less! Always plenty of sun beds so no need to hurry to find one, and this was in the height if the season, unless you're a total sun worshiper and want the very best spots! Sun beds have great individual shades for your head too which I loved!
The room was spacious and air conditioned with a balcony looking towards the gardens, though if you can get a sea view I'd go for that cos the sunsets are totally stunning from the hotel! The facilities in the rooms were great. Had a programmable safe for all your documents and money etc. The only reason I have rated at 4 and not 5 is down to the bathroom shower being a bit temperamental, it was at an odd angle above the bath - to the right hand side of the bath on the long wall? So this meant it leaked on the floor a bit - this is me being picky! The bathroom was modern and clean though.
Staff were lovely at the hotel, especially the pool staff, hospitality staff and restaurant people, reception staff didn't come across quite as friendly but I do think they were very busy at the time.
Food at the hotel is very nice, so much to choose from at breakfast, not good if you want to watch your weight though! Dinner is nice and again lots of food but can be a little similar each time, I'd say a few nights at the hotel for dinner is ok, but definitely go into the old town on an evening, loads of restaurants to choose from and brilliant atmosphere.
Overall a great stay at the argosy, I'd come back again but get a sea view room.
Dubrovnik is beautiful and so worth visiting!

Stayed four nights part of a Riviera tour. The hotel is a short bus ride from Dubrovnik, the bus stops outside of the hotel. The hotel has recently been refurbished and the rooms are very comfortable and clean. Our room overlooked the pool area and the sea beyond, some rooms do not have such a good outlook according to others on the tour. The restaurant is very large and can become very hectic and disorganised at peak times, the food was very tasty with a large selection of all courses, some of the meat is cooked while you wait at the counter. The position of the hotel is very good as it is slightly away from the city centre on a peninsular overlooking the islands and sea. far better than staying in Dubrovnik town with all the boatloads of tourists converging each day. this hotel is part of a group next to each other with nice grounds between. We would highly recommend this hotel for position to Dubrovnik and quality of accommodation.

stayed here for a week at the beginning of July - nice spacious room, with high ceilings and subtle air conditioning which was very welcome on the really hot days. Room had no sea view, which was a shame, but the views from the pool area were stunning. Despite it being quite a big hotel we were able to get sun-beds and an umbrella every time we wanted one. The "towel card" process whereby you picked up a new beachtowel when you visited the pool was very straightforward, as was the "hotel card" which allowed you to charge drinks/meals to your room from any of the Valamar hotels - we went to the more upmarket Dubrovnik President hotel one evening and had a lovely meal at their Beach Bistro. The breakfast buffet beat our expectations, with lots of hot and cold options, and the pool bistro served good lunchtime food, albeit from a limited menu.
As mentioned in other reviews, the fact this is near to the terminus of the no. 6 bus is a real plus - although you can also stroll into town quite easily in the evening. Buy tickets from the hotel shop or one of the many kiosks in town.
We found the water pressure in the shower to be quite weak, and the temperature was very variable. Also the drink prices were a bit steep.

From the moment we arrived it was obvious the hotel was one of luxury and the finer details mattered. The entrance to the hotel is large and spacious and immaculate in cleanliness and style. The check in procedure was very quick and simple, with the front of house staff being very friendly, professional and informative.

We arrived to our standard room and thought that we has been upgraded as the room was spacious and airy. We requested a double bed which we had, not only was the bed more than comfortable but we had a choice of pillow softness. We specifically requested a quiet room and we were given a room on an end, this meant every night we had a peaceful nights sleep and woke naturally to the sun rising over the mountains.

The dining experience was overwhelming with so much choice and a variety of meals available in the "show and cook" kitchen every night, we never had the same meal twice in the 9 days we stayed. Both breakfast and evening meal could not be faulted and as a fussy eater that is unusual for me.

The staff at the hotel are warm, caring and are genuinely interested whilst upholding their professionalism, there was always a manager in the restaurant and the hotel which shows how much they care about the guests. All the staff to the time to say Good Morning etc....... We were very pleased with Dolores our House Keeper, she was dedicated to her role and went above and beyond to please, nothing was too much trouble for her and she is an asset to the hotel. Our sincere high praise to her.

The pool areas were clean and tidy, although we did not use these facilities. There were plenty of sunbeds and covered sun bed area, the only downside as with any typical holiday maker they have a habit of placing there towel on the bed at breakfast and not move until evening meal, a possible policy for this not to happen would enhance the hotel experience.

Location was fantastic, 5 minutes to the local beach or another 10 minutes in the opposite direction and another beautiful 2 beaches await you. A pleasant walk to the harbour, about an hour but worth it for the views. The buses are frequent (every 10 minutes, number 6) directly into the Old Town which is well worth many visits. The tickets for the bus are 24 Kuna return, tickets available at the shop, however a great tip is the Dubrovnik Card, its a 1,3 or 7 day card.

We went for the 7 day card costing 250 Kuna which allowed 20 bus journeys and free visits to the top 8 attractions/museums in the Old Town and saved a lot of money and well worth it.

We did some research about excursions before we left the UK and found them to vary in costs greatly so. So we decided to book when we were there and see for ourselves and found i Tours a small family run business in the small arcade of shops by the hotel and they were so friendly and welcoming so much so that we booked all our trips with and these were cost effective and much more reasonably priced than other Tour Operators on the internet.

We would certainly recommend the 3 Island Tour, Snorkeling and Beach Hopping Tour and most of all the Buggy Tour on top of Mount Srdj that took us into the deep forests of Croatia and our guide was amazing and explained where the war started, which led us to the War Museum again very poignant and certainly puts the war in prospective and how much the local endured.

Check out was fast and efficient and we cannot fault the hotel in anyway at all........A four star hotel, surely not......A 5 star hotel a definite!!!!!

Room Tip: I think all rooms would be more than acceptable.
