“Amazing hotel - for the right guests!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2012

We had a fabulous stay at the Hotel Bellevue, which was to celebrate our honeymoon. The hotel made us feel truly special from the second we walked through the door. We were upgraded to a suite and a bottle of bubbly was brought to our room, very nice touches.
As has been mentioned in many other reviews the location of the hotel is a key point. It is located a good 15 minutes walk outside of the old town, however this is both a plus point and a minus point depending on whether you are looking exlusively for a city stay or looking to experience the Dalmatian coastline as well as having easy access to the city. It would be hard to find a more stunning location for a hotel, right on the edge of a sheer cliff face, overlooking a beautiful bay, with fabulous turquoise waters lapping the secluded pebble beach and fantastic views along the rugged cliffs of the coast. As the old town of Dubrovnik is so beautiful it does tend to attract very large crowds of tourists, literally unloaded from heaving tour buses every few minutes. For this reason, it was very refreshing to be able to escape the madness of the old town, so I would definitely recommend a stay outside of the city walls.
The rooms are nicely furnished to a high standard, the indoor pool and spa area is a real haven and an underrated aspect of the hotel, particularly after a hard day sightseeing or on the rare rainy days. The rooftop bar and restaurant is truly stunning, fab food and yet more of those fantastic views. We ate out at most of the top restaurants in Dubrovnik during our stay and can honestly say that the hotel's Vapor restaurant was the highlight, exemplary food and service. Radoslav the waiter deserves particular praise. I did, however, feel that although the quality of the breakfast served was overall quite good, it was not an overly wide choice, particularly the hot food options. Given the relatively small number of guests at any one time they would be best advised to cook all hot food to order at quieter times of year. They do offer a bespoke breakfast options but these are not particularly well publicised and we only discovered this on our final morning.
In addition we did have a few issues whilst we were staying, recurring problems with the wi-fi in the room, misunderstandings with a day trip booked with the concierge and a few slight gripes with the level of cleaning of the room. I should say that the staff were extremely helpful at all times and more than happy to assist in resolving problems and offering apologies, in line with what I would regard as a high level of service throughout the stay.
Whilst it is commendable that the staff dealt so efficiently and helpfully with the issues that arose, I think that to truly achieve a 5 star rating, a hotel should not need to deal with the aforementioned issues or problems, everything should be perfect in the first place, for the duration of your stay.
Will you like this hotel? I think that depends on your perception of what a 5 star hotel should be. If you like a grand institution steeped in history, elegance and the 'big chain' dependable levels of service, then you should probably look at something like The Hilton Imperial. This for me looked to old and stuffy an option, and this is why I'm delighted with our stay at the Hotel Bellevue, which is stylish, contemporary and has a location and setting that absolutely takes your breath away.
For us it was perfect, we would most definitely stay at the hotel again and will be recommending it to all our friends and family.

The hotel was stunning, the staff/service impeccable and the room were clean and bright, with stunning views of the Adriatic coast line. We were blessed with beautiful weather and thoroughly enjoyed all the resort/old town had to offer. Hopefully, we will be back before too long!

Room Tip: Go for a room with a balcony... most have them and you won't be disappointed by the view.

I would thoroughly recommend the Bellevue for a trip to this wonderful CIty. The staff are very helpful and friendly, rooms spacious and very clean and the views over the bay from the rooms and terrace are stunning.

We were a group of 16 celebrating a joint 50th weekend and it was perfect. it's a 15 minute walk into the old town, but downhill so usually got a taxi back - from outside Pile gate it's 5 euro's.

If you fail to like this hotel you must be very difficult to please.

Room Tip: All sea view rooms

I stayed here in May 2012 for 3 nights as part of a holiday around Croatia. Check in was quick and easy. The accommodation was excellent: the rooms and common areas were modern, clean and tastefully decorated. I especially liked how the room was scented with lemongrass which is always refreshing and reminds me of being in Asia.

Although the hotel is rated as having 5 stars, I would struggle to give it more than 4.5 because of the quality of service. Clearly the staff tried very hard to accommodate guests during our stay but there was a visible lack of experience to make the quality of service excellent - they also found it a bit difficult to understand English. That aside, they did try to accommodate us.

Breakfast was all right but nothing special (I suppose the breakfast at the Hilton closer to the Old Town may have been better). There were only 4-5 hot dishes and the usual bread, cheese and some fruits. The quality of the food was good, but the selection was not.

Lastly, the location of the hotel was mostly good. It had its own private beach (which I did not use but I imagine would have been quite nice). The downside which is common in the other reviews of the hotel is that it is about 10-15 minutes walking from the entrance to the Old Town (maybe a bit longer returning to the hotel since it's a long uphill walk). Since it's quite far, it also doesn't have any view of the Old Town, but a nice view of the Adriatic and the private beach nonetheless. While the location may not be the best, I was quite happy since the hotel had few rooms and so was not at all crowded (this is very welcome after being in the town with the crowds coming in from the cruise ships).

On the whole I would recommend the hotel for a relaxing holiday in Dubrovnik, but wouldn't expect 5-star service.

We stayed here for three nights. There is a magnificent view from every room, and the rooms were comfortable, attractive, and spotless. Breakfast was served in a light-filled dining room or on the patio; the food was very fresh and tasty. It was a pleasant 15-minute walk to the Old City from the hotel. The staff all spoke good English and were very helpful. There was free WiFi which worked fine in our room, the indoor pool and spa, also with the view, were welcome after a day of lots of walking. There is also a beach, although we didn't find time to test it out. If I were to go back to Dubrovnik, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room had a balcony overlooking the water; not all rooms have the balcony, but all have the view.

I would like to say that is not a 5 star hotel. According to the people who are working at th hotel it was a 3 star but renovation has been made. Location is good but you need still to take a bus to old city if you stay at the hotel for 3-4 nights and have to go every day to Dubrovnik. Hilton is closer to old city but has not beach. Staff is very nice. Mrs.Luce Baća is very kind and helpful and made sure that we got a very special rate for 3 nights (of season) and upgrade our room to Deluxe. All rooms have sea view. We didn't need to make advance payment and the rooms were confirmed. I almost gave 5 star rating since everything was nice. I would suggest to go before May.

Room Tip: We stayed at the floor just below the restaurant. Nice view. Better to have a room with balcony.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for posting your comments on Tripadvisor's pages.
As you mentioned hotel "Bellevue" before 1991 was 3 stars hotel and has been totally renovated
6 years ago in 5 stars, modern contemporary hotel.
All bedrooms are decorated in a luxury sailing theme with simple furniture and wooden floors.
All rooms have splendid sea views because hotel is located on a spectacular cliftop,30 m
above the Miramare bay in Adriatic sea.
It is very easy to reach nice sandy/pebble beach, because hotel's lift drives directly to the beach
and I am sorry that you did not take advantage of swimming in Adriatic sea and enjoy on the beach.
Hotel is 15-20 minutes walk distance from the old city or just 5 minutes ride by local bus No 4 which stopps in front of the hotel.
Once again I would like to thank you for your comments and hope that we'll be able to welcome you again in our hotel.
With kind regards,

Food:
not what I was expecting

helpful but not more

Spa:

Amenities:
good, especially the fact that the hotel has it's own little part of the beach

not worth 5 stars if you compare the hotel with other 5 star places

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us.
I am really sorry to read that our hotel did not meet your expectations for the five stars hotel.
Unfortunatelly you did not provide any details about the exact nature of the problem you experienced with us when you rated us average.
As your feedback is very important to us I would appreciate more details.
We will try even harder to focus on performance in all our outlets.
Thank you again for your comments.
