We are currently staying at the Valamar President. We have been in a newly refurbished room for the last 6 nights. Overall, the hotel is nice. It's once you have been here a couple of days that you start to notice the cracks.

The main draw to this hotel is that amazing views of the ocean it provides. We saw the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen here.

There is no entertainment other than a piano bar at night. There is no music on the beach. The "beach" is covered in pebbles and very uncomfortable to walk on. If you want a drink you have to get up and walk all the way to the understaffed cafe and get your own. We could not understand that there was not waiters walking around asking people if they wanted anything to eat or drink on the beach. If you don't have shoes you will be in pain. There is only 1 place to eat lunch. It's at the beach. The menu is awful. There is absolutely no selection other than a frozen burger, a couple of sandwiches and very overpriced seafood that is nothing special.

The pool was nice but freezing cold and filled with loud children. It was not pleasant as a couple to be around loud children. There should be separate pools for children. For the price of the hotel it should be much more equipped than it is.

They are stingy with the towels. They don't clean dirty glasses in the room. We ordered room service. It was 2 cappuccinos and the price to have them delivered to our room was more than the price of the actual drinks. 2 cappuccinos cost us 13 Euro. They were small and had only 1 shot of espresso.

The trip to the airport cost us 50 Euro each way. The hotel is on the far end of the peninsula which makes it about a 30 minute bus ride to the old town. It stops at every pickup spot on the way.

The new rooms are nice and well decorated with high quality. The staff seems undertrained or not trained at all but somewhat friendly.

Overall it was a decent stay but much more expensive that it should have been. If you compare this hotel on global scale it is missing so many details that make it not worth the price.

I would not come back although like I said it wasn't terrible, just not a good value for the price.

Room Tip: Get the best room available.

This hotel has been recently refurbished and overall the property is lovely. I stayed in a Superior room which had a nicely sized balcony with 2 sun beds. The bed, pillows and bedding were fabulous feather and luxurious.

Breakfast was excellent in terms if quality, variety and excellent service.

I had a facial at the spa, the spa was the best priced I found when re searching.

Taxi to and from airport 250 kuna and about 30 mins. During your stay you can get on the 5 or was it the 6 bus ... 12 kuna. They are very frequent and take 15 mins to the old town.

My tips for a trip:
* book a table at 360 restaurant for dinner..book a table before sunset so you can take in the stunning views..expect to pay £100 per person for cocktails and 2 or 3 courses. Lovely food menu, excellent wine list and amazingly knowledge staff, in particular the sommelier.
* Orsan Restaurant is the next tip at Gruz Harbour. Stunningly fresh seafood at a really good price. Recommend the grilled octopus and the seafood pasta. Really readonable prices.
* Hire a speed boat - amazing full day out for £360 which included skipper, fuel, water, beer. Dubrovnik Boat

This hotel was recently renovated and you can tell right when you walk into the lobby with huge bay windows. The rooms are clean and sophisticated and all face the amazing sea. A bus line that goes straight to Old Town stops directly in front of the hotel, which was very convenient. Our flight was at an ungodly hour in the morning so at checkout they even provided us with little to-go breakfast baggies! I loved this hotel, definitely worth the price. Although drinks and simple cafe food were fairly expensive so we ate out a lot.

This hotel has everything a luxury traveller is looking for. Very well appointed rooms , stunning views of the sea, helpful staff and out of the world buffet breakfast. While some of the other hotels in vicinity claim to be five star - we checked out all - this one really is five star in every which way.

Room Tip: Higher floors with clear sea view.

My wife and I have just returned after a one week stay at the Valamar Dubrovnik President between 1st and 8th July 2014. We had a wonderful suite on the fourth floor, like an apartment and it was probably the best hotel room ever, Outside there was a well shaded sitting area and terrace with a hot tub installed on a raised decking, with two comfortable chairs in addition to two sun loungers, all with smart cushions. The view out to sea was outstanding. Bed linen was changed every couple of days and room service was daily. Restaurant, restaurant service and choice of food were excellent. This hotel had the official reopening towards the end of June, after a reputed £16M refurbishment and new-build and the quality is excellent and becomes evident immediately upon entering the air-conditioned Reception area, which although ground floor is actually 7th floor as the hotel is built on a slope, down towards the excellent private beach. Restaurants and bars are on the sixth floor and indoor and outdoor pools and accompanying bar are on fifth floor, as are hairdressing, manicure, massage, gym and Wellness rooms. There are some small shops near Reception, one selling bus tickets for Dubrovnik at 12 Kuna each whereas the charge on the bus is 15 Kuna. Dubrovnik Old Town at night is a must as are boat trips to the nearby island of Lokrum and village of Cavtat. The all-Croatian staff at this hotel really are a delight and we wish them all well in what is a new venture for Valamar. Whilst the hotel has a high staffing level and we would like to thank them all for making our holiday so enjoyable, in particular we would single-out Mili Vuckovic - Assistant General Manager, Dragan - the tall, good-looking young man in Reception, Romero who oversaw the running of the restaurant Indoor and terrace - it was evident what a good job he did as you never once had to wait for anything especially having your coffee cup topped up Kate - our lovely waitress who gave excellent service both at breakfast and dinner, Romano - chef whose sea bass was superb, Marje - another attentive waitress and last but not least, the ever-smiling and bubbly Elizabet who was often first to greet us on arrival at the restaurant. In fact we should like to have been able to mention everyone by name but there were so many.
You certainly would not be disappointed by spending a holiday at the President.

Our favorite hotel to date! We stayed on the 2nd floor in a standard double room. There is nothing "standard" about this room. Terrific view from private balcony, super comfy bed and lovely bathroom. Beach was beautiful with great views and nice sun beds and umbrellas. Food on hotel grounds was excellent, and staff was really friendly, especially Elisabeth in the main dinning room. We will be back for sure!

My husband and I stayed at the Valamar President for 4 nights from 3 July 2014. We stayed on the first floor in a standard double sea view room with a stunning view out over the ocean and islands in front of the hotel. Our room also had its own private balcony with two sunbeds and a table and chairs (plus cushions for them stored in the room) which was a nice surprise and proved to be a fantastic sun trap from about 11.30am onwards. The room was very clean and well-equipped and the beds incredibly comfortable.

The staff are very friendly and attentive and there are a variety of restaurants and bars from which you can enjoy the stunning views (which are worth a trip to the hotel in themselves!) We also had lunch in the pool bar on our first day which was very good and a great buffet breakfast is also included in the room rate.

The hotel is in the New Town of Dubrovnik and is about a 15 minute drive into the Old Town. Taxis can be booked very easily and quickly and cost around £10. There is also a public bus (number 6) that shuttles back and forth to the Old Town until 1am and takes about 25 minutes (costing £2 ish each way).

The hotel is very big and was fully booked when we stayed which meant that it was a bit of a scramble to get a sunbed on the beach in particular (every single bed was taken or "reserved" from 11am onwards for the duration of our stay). However, there is also plenty of room by the pool (which is gorgeous) and enough sunbeds up there which suited us fine - and we did stay during peak season after all.

If you are looking for an intimate hotel with a 'boutique' feel to it then the Valamar President isn't for you. However, in all other respects it is a great place and I would definitely recommend it as a great base from which to relax and also explore the magical town of Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: The higher up you are in the hotel the better your views will be, although even rooms on the first f...
