We stayed at the hotel for my husbands 50th and on arrival staff at reception didn't even welcome us to the hotel they took our passports and we waited and they failed to inform us of any facilities, where breakfast was served or times etc. I then asked if there was any chance of an upgrade and they were dismissive. We did get upgraded to a partial sea view but the room was average with a small bathroom. I had to ask the receptionist if she had finished as she left us waiting and she just gave our passports back. Our room was clean with a side view of the sea facing away from the town. Finding the facilities was like guess work as no one informed us where anything was. Staff at times made us feel uncomfortable and to be honest that and the fact there were no other guests in the restaurants our at the bar is the reason we never ate at the hotel. Breakfast was nice but when we have stayed in 5 star hotels there are usually chefs preparing omelettes and eggs to order there was only the choice of scrambled and boiled. The views are great and the spa is excellent but I was disappointed with the rest of the hotel and when we spoke to other guests some agreed with us. My husband said that maybe their English was not that great but first impressions mean a lot. On a positive note when it was my husbands birthday there was a piece of cake put in our room with a note from hotel saying anything we can do to help but to be honest this seemed a liitle bit late.

This time-honoured building – a blend of old and new – is uniquely located on a cliffside, with magnificent views from every floor, over to the island of Lokrum in one direction and the Old Town in another. Recognised as one of the finest hotels in the Mediterranean by the UK’s Sunday Times newspaper, it is only when you visit that you can fully appreciate the spectacular setting: the tranquil gardens in which to stroll; four fine-dining restaurants, all offering panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea; a private beach, back-dropped by the UNESCO-protected Old Town.
