“Great Staff Great Location”
Reviewed 16 August 2008

After reading a lot of reviews ( some good, some not so good ) about this Hotel, I consulted with my local travel agent who told me that he sends customers there all the time with no "major "complaints. So I reluctantly booked our family trip only to be very pleasently suprised. We found that the Grand Hotel Park was very centrally located for trips to the old town , only a 10 minutes bus drive that cost about €1.30. The beach was about a 3 minute walk away. Breakfast was very adequate with a vast selection of cereals, cooked foods, fruits, cold meats etc. However my family did only sample the cereals and coffee but the rest looked good and seemed to be refreshed regularly. The room was adequate if you just slept there, otherwise it might contribute to "cabin fever" but this did not apply to us as we were out all day. I would not classify this hotel as a 4 * but probably close enough. A fellow countryman, George Bernard Shaw described Dudrovnik as the "Pearl of the Adriatic" I would describe some of the staff that I came in contact with in a similar fashion. All staff were very pleasant but we found 2 particular
" Pearls " The first was named Soldas and he was Manager of the poolside bar. He was smiling from early morning to late at night, seemed to speak several languages. He even spoke The "Cupla Focal" for us Irish. I heard him converse in at least 3 other languages. He smiled permanently for the total duration of his shift . The pool bar was spotless at all times and he was particularly nice to all the children that were there. Whatever amount of money you pay this Guy is not enough because he could be an Ambassador for your Country, not to mention your Hotel.
The 2nd Pearl that we encountered was Niksa. He seemed to be the Manager of The Hotel Bar. We went to him for our nightcap most nights and he knew our order immediately. When we asked "how are you Niksa tonight" his reply was the same "always good"
For us these 2 Guys "were "The Grand Park Hotel." We feel if you didnt have them then the Hotel was nothing particularly special.

This establishment is in an excellent location & has a lovely pool and bar area & is very near public transport for trips to the Old City. However, it was definitely not a 4 star hotel and, indeed, some signage around the area referred to it as 3 star, which's more accurate!

The Receptionists (particularly the male ones) were very rude and unhelpful. On 2 occasions on 2 separate days we wanted to book some excursions through the Hotel Reception but were told to come back the next afternoon to discuss it with a "colleague". We observed other guests being told this too. Also, the bar area was pretty dead with terrible music. Also, the breakfast wasn't particularly good with poor choice.

We booked a double room in the hotel itself but when we arrived we were given a twin room in one of the villas. While these rooms are the same price, this is not what we booked. The bathroom was tiny and the bedroom had more of an apartment feel than a hotel. Overall, we felt as if we were staying in an apartment complex as opposed to a hotel. Wouldn't recommend!

When we arrived at The Grand Park at 12pm we were told that check in was not until 2pm.Slightly annoying when you have been up since 3:30am but fair enough, if the room is not ready there’s not a lot you can do about it so we hung around for two hours and waited. From our first impressions of the hotel and its lobby, bar etc, it seemed promising enough. However when we finally made it into the room we were disappointed. The hotel is divided into three sections: the main building and two villas. We knew that we were staying in one of the villas but we were not prepared for just how basic the room would be. It looked nothing like the pictures on the hotel website and if it had been recently renovated I would have hated to have stayed there before! There were lots of cobwebs, the wallpapered border was peeling off and the bathroom was very old fashioned and covered in 1970s’ style orange tiles! After looking at some other travellers’ photos on here, I can only assume that the rooms are nicer in the main hotel buildings and in hindsight I wish we had booked one of these. If you are staying here I would definitely request a room in the main hotel and one with a sea view, as the others are overlooking the car park. We had a nice view from our villa but no balcony, and the other villa overlooked a building sight! We had also requested a non-smoking room but when we arrived we were told that they didn’t exist- all the rooms are smoking so we had to put up with the smell of stale cigarettes for a week.

After unpacking and storing our valuables in the electronic safe, we explored the area. The hotel’s location is probably the best thing about it; there are a few nice restaurants and bars in Lapad and it is a pleasant place to be in the evening if you don’t feel like venturing into Dubrovnik itself. The view from the beach is stunning and the bus stop is close to the hotel. We found the bus service reliable and efficient and Dubrovnik itself is lovely. If you do feel like spending the evening here, the bus runs until around 3am!

After an evening exploring the area, we woke on our first day to discover that our safe would not open; slight panic as tickets, money, phones etc were all inside. We reported it to reception who were extremely blasé about the whole thing but sent a technician to fix it. Around six different technicians attempted to fix the problem and eventually the safe had to be drilled into! A new safe was fitted around two hours later and the head technician was extremely apologetic. However not a single member of management even approached us to apologise for not only the worry we were caused but losing most of our first day. This set the scene for most of the staff really- quite rude and acted like you were causing a massive hassle just by being there. Also be warned that there are no ‘do not disturb’ signs so be prepared for the maids knocking on your door if you dare to sleep in longer than 8:30!

Overall, Dubrovnik is a very pretty place but I would not stay at this hotel again.

Hotel is clean and comfortable and staff are friendly.

Location is good as its in the middle of a small promande in Lapad Bay so can walk to Bars, Shops and Restaurants.
Only 15 minute bus ride to Dubrovnik (Buses are cramped).

On arrival we thought Hotel prices were expensive, then we realised that Dubrovnik was expensive for what we were expecting.
Wine is approx £3.00 per glass, same as beer. Meals are approx £30 - £40 for two for lunch and £80 for dinner with drinks.

I would go back as the place is beautiful would just be a bit more prepared. I expected the restaurants to be cooking fish and meat on grills in front of you or choosing your own fish to eat......nothing like this at all although food is not bad just not what we were expecting.

First time in Croatia so maybe it is just Dubrovnik. We spoke to some locals who all said the North is more what we were expecting.

Lying on the teak sunbeds on the beach is amazing but sunbeds are £5.00 each per day.

Hotel pool is lovely as long as you get up early enough for a sunbed!!!

Would go back to Croatia but probably go further north where we were told wine and beer is approx £1.00 and food is cheaper. Just a bit upset whenthe locals agree both them and tourists are paying prices that are too high !!!

Grand Hotel Park is a basic three start hotel. Its beds are OK but there is not enough storage room in its cabinets. The bathroom was small, with a shower, you have soap, shower gel and shampoo - that's it. It's the type of bathroom you find in an IBIS-hotel. But then, you pay for a two star hotel, not for a four star.
When you are out of these products, you have to ask reception; the cleaning staff does not do it spontaneously.

Neither breakfast, nor supper are four star level.
We had to ask several days for fresh fruit (we got apples and banana's of the evening before - with very untasty looking brown spots. Coffee is the genuine canteen brand and I think that nowadays people would strike for less. Or you can choose the Nescafé style, but then again : this is not up to four star level. One positive point is that we could drink tea ...

We were looking forward to staying near the old city of Dubrovnik so we could easily walk around and see it at night. Well if you want to do this don;t stay at this hotel, it is miles out.
We had rooms upstairs and they were tiny.It had a tiny bathroom we could not access together. If someone was sitting on the toilet you could not open the door. Also just moving round the room was difficult with 2 people sharing.
Meals were OK, but a bit like being in a university cafeteria, there were lots of bus groups in and even though they filled up things constantly food disappeared at a rapid rate. So get in early.

There was a local supermarket nearby to buy some food and alcohol, and a bus service but intermittent at best. There was a range of restaurants on a walkway down to the sea, which was fine for dinner if you didnt want to go into the old town. Some of our group also did the boat trip and dinner thing and they came back via the old town, but it was very expensive.
Also if staying here and wanting to ring a reverse charges call (as we did to advise about a lost wallet) be very careful as they tried to charge us $A175.00 extra for this call, because the post office was closed and they couldnt arrange it, and had not advised us of this so that we could get the company in Australia to ring us back intstead. We must say the Reception Manager was wonderful and when we explained that we were not given a choice in this matter, he took this amount off our bill. So that was really good service.

  • Liked — the local restaurants and walkway to the adriatic sea, also has a nice pool
  • Disliked — too far out of Dubrovnik old city and rooms far too small, more like singles not doubles

Just returned from 7 days half board. Now officially 4 star but I would assess at 3 star +. Reception staff very efficient. Rooms clean and bright but with limited storage space. We had rear view room which was fine. Sea view would be hot in the afternoon but will have a lovely view of the sunset. Good sized pool for a good swim but poolside a bit small for the number of guests. Competition for beds/loungers would be helped if there were a full time attendant. Food buffet style, average but adequate. Building site to the rear of one of the villas. 100 metres (as stated) to hotel's beach although public have access too (charge for loungers/parasols). Good frequent bus sevice to Dubrovnik on 2 routes (journey 15 mins) Probably on balance, as good a location outside Dubrovnik as you can get for a 4 star
