“Great Stay”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

We stayed at the Hotel for our summer Holiday in August 2014 and had a brilliant stay.

Initially we had reservations about staying in a Hotel so far away from the old town but within a few hours of checking in at the Hotel my worries were over completely as the Hotel was in a perfect location for us.

Around the Hotel are plenty of bars and restaurants, some with evening entertainment (head towards the beach for these each night) a couple of shops, a man made beach area, great coastal walk, bus stop taking you into the old town and the beautiful harbour is also only a ten minute walk.

The bus into the old town runs every 15 minutes from the early hours until 2am ish and takes about 20 minutes. The bus stop itself is less than a 5 minute walk away from the Hotel.

Re the Hotel itself, it sticks out from the other buildings in the area as its fairly modern in comparison but this does mean you wont get lost!

Staff on Reception are really friendly and provide a great welcome.

The food was just ok but there was plenty of choice for both dinner and breakfast. Look out for the complimentary prosecco at breakfast!

The bedroom was light, clean, modern and had great air-conditioning which kicked in when the balcony door shut. Our room was in the main hotel and overlooked the parkside so it was great to sit out on the balcony in the evenings before dinner relaxing.

The only irritating thing about the Hotel for us was the unreliable wifi. The wifi is free all over the hotel but the signal strength isn't fantastic but this was a small thing really as pretty much every bar & restaurant in Dubrovnik has free wifi!

Overall, I was really pleased with this Hotel, great location, great welcome and a great stay. Well worth the price paid.

We had 2 separate rooms in the annexe villa maria. They were very spacious and had good air conditioning in the room. Also there was a small bath and a fantastic shower.A free safe to use was good also free wifi in the room. There was also a fridge in the room which was great as my daughter is diabetic and she could keep her insulin in it.The beds were two singles pushed together but this was no problem as they did not separate. I slept even better then I do in my own bed!
Restaurant food was always good in my opinion and had a varied choice, Mariaka in the restaurant was most helpful and absolutely lovely.
There was no evening entertainment but we were told the owner had recently died so this could have been out if respect to him. Plenty of bars and entertainment on the hotels doorstep.
The pool was lovely and the area very clean and tidy.
I would highly recommend this hotel and Croatia as this is a beautiful unspoilt place, I hope it remains like this. I will be back someday.

We stayed here in July, the hotel is not 4 star by UK standards. The location is good, close to the beach and a short bus ride from the old town. If I was to return I would go b&b so that I had the flexibility to eat dinner at one of the many restaurants in the old town.
We paid extra to have a room overlooking the sea, definitely a must.

We stayed here for 12 days and found it to be very reasonable. We didn't stay in the hotel but in the Villa Park which is a block adjacent to the hotel. If going again we'd pick Villa Maria which is just next door to the pool and has better views out to the sea. The buffet breakfast is very good with lots of choices of different types of food, from fresh fruit to full breakfast. It's served in a large area between 7-10 with views of the pool and sea. The hotel staff were very friendly and we'd requested an early check-in to which the did accommodate us. Saying that you have to be out of the room on the day you're leaving by 12, we couldn't get a late checkout as the hotel was fully booked.
The hotel offered a good rate on currency exchange and the Old City is only 15 minutes away on the Number 6 bus which seems to run every 20 minutes until quite late. There's a large supermarket called "Tomy" 2 minutes away from the hotel which has a large selection of everything. It's worth visiting at least once. There's also plenty of restaurants closeby. Both the outdoor and indoor pools are ok and refreshing.
One downside is that the sunbeds are some of the most uncomfortable I've every had to lie on. Get two towels of something to spare your back.

After a three hour evening flight from Ireland and a 35 minute bus journey from the airport we reached Grand hotel park at approx 2am. No food or drink was available and we were very coldly told this by the receptionist . A vending machine needs to be introduced into the lobby for hot drinks and snacks for late arrivals.

€1 = 7 kuna, weather very hot in August 27-32 degrees, bring hat sunglasses and swim shoes as very expensive to buy 10-20 euro. Number 4 or number 6 bus to old town ten minutes away.

We were travelling as a group and requested rooms be placed near by, however we were placed on different floors. In the whole week we were there staff would pass us by in the lobby and never greet with a smile or say hello. Bedrooms were spacious with mountain view, bins and towels were changed and beds dressed daily. Air conditioning was very good. The outdoor pool and indoor pool was very clean. The breakfast in the hotel consisted of bread, continential breakfast i.e chese. meats, cereals, yogurts as well as pancakes, omelettes and fry laced in grease.

We went on day trips from the hotel (Collect you outside hotel and drop you back in the evening):

1) Montenagro (you visit three churches and have lunch 5/10)

2) Bosnia Hertz Medjugorje (10/10 great for shopping for clothes, the food is amazing and reasonable, mass is 45 minutes in lenght, aproition hill and weaping statue to visit, mass cards cost €10.50 each) Cost 40e per person for the day ex lunch

3) Elaphit islands boat trip, is a full day in lenght. You visit three islands Sipan,Lopud and Kolocep and have lunch aboard a boat, its a beautiful day out 8/10) Cost 40e per person for the day

4) Lockrum island, is a short ferry ride from the old town, approx 7e return.

5) glass bottomed boat (You see no fish, waste of time 8e each for the pleasure!!)

6) City walls and Cable car are the only to things to see in Dubrovinik, get the 1 day pass and its cheaper otherwise pay 30e each to visit the two.

7) To confirm their is no beaches in Dubrovnik that have sand, they have large boulders of rocks and people jump in off them. I have lifeguard training and I would not have considered this safe. The only sandy beach is in Lopud. Watch out for sea urchins, they are black in colour and live on rocks. They have sharp spikes and once you stand on them, it is very painful. It can take a week for them to leave your foot. Alot of Irish people we were with cut their feet as the rocks are raser sharp!! Their is no shopping in Dubrovinik only key rings and magnets.

I found the people unfriendly in general, Croatia has beautiful scenery but tourism is croatia's only source of income so bring around 100e for each day spending as things are costly.

Room Tip: Mountain view rooms were cool during the day!!

We are just back from a stay at this hotel. We checked in at 2am on a Wednesday morning. There is no tea making facilities in the room and we asked could we get some milk as we had our own little travel kettle with us.The receptionist said this was not possible as the kitchen was closed-what kind of service is that for a 4 star hotel. We had requested 1 dbl and 1 triple room-it stated it on our booking and we had a copy of this. She said they would have to make up the extra bed as she could not see this request on screen. We had our booking in our hand but she was not interested in looking at it.We had also requested two rooms on the same floor-this request was also not honored. We went up to the room-room was two singles pushed together and a single camp bed-which was comfortable. We had a balcony with two chairs and a small table which was handy to dry clothes from the pool.Breakfast was okay-cooked breakfast was cold on many mornings, they offered pancakes with syrup and omelettes made to order.House keeping just walk into your room in the morning they do not even knock-very rude! they changed our towels and empty bins but they do not clean the room-bathroom wash basin etc.Pool was salt water, clean and there is a juice bar above which you can get a sandwich good prices. Restaurant Tavern is outside at the back and is good for pizzas but that is it.Chef can not cook anything-very bad quality food compared to other places around.Just a tip not relating to the hotel but there are no shops around the hotel and if you want a sun hat, beach towel or whatever make sure you bring them from home-they charge €20 for a hat that you can buy in penny's fro €3 at home.Hotel is expensive and food is not good.Good location for travelling but if you want buzz stay in OLD TOWN. There is no atmosphere in the hotel.

Room Tip: room 325 is an end room with a balcony

The hotel is well located in Lapad, close to the beach, restaurants and cafés/bars. There is a really nice walk along the coast - really pretty. You can get a bus (shortish ride) to the old city, best to try and go out of peak time as the buses can be very crowded. The beach is quite nice, pebble of course, so take reef shoes if you want to spend time soaking up the rays. It's worth paying for a lounge and umbrella - there is a really great taverna right on the beach (excellent fried squid and cold beer :)). The hotel has free wifi in the public areas but not in your room.

Room Tip: We had a sea view room - really recommend you opt for the sea view it's great to have the balcon...
