“A great location and good hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2012

The location is the main attraction of this hotel. The short walk to the old town is a definite major plus. As is the spectacular views from the rooms with a sea view.

The room I had was perfectly comfortable with all facilities you would expect. I found the decor and overall feel of the hotel a little old fashioned and perhaps in need of some updating. Television reception in my room was rather poor. I would definitely stay again though as it's a great location for exploring Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

Rooms with 'inland views' mean tiny little rooms with window overlooking busy road with heavy traffic. Rooms with balconies only possible option, but very expensive in season. I have three gripes though: the 'private beach' is a concrete strip with no easy access in or out of the sea - hardly a beach. The sun blind on the balcony, supposedly responsive to the wind, kept winding itself up every few minutes when there was no wind at all. Very irritating. The other thing - there was no air extraction in the bathroom, which had no window. Thought this was illegal! Very embarrassing when sharing a room - the only option was to open the room into the corridor to get some fresh air in. And why do hotels charge so much for using the mini bar? £10 for a gin and tonic! If they weren't so greedy people may actually use them - the bar was so small we couldn't even fit our own bottle of water in.

Having said that, the staff were very obliging and the buffet breakfast was excellent. Indoor pool and jacuzzi very nice too - location of hotel excellent.

Room Tip: Do not book a room with inland view.

Dear Guest,

I would like to thank you for taking your time and writing review about Grand Villa Argentina. It is nice to see that you liked staff attitude and service aproach we have given to you in Grand Villa Argentina.
Our Mini Bar prices, ones you are mentioning are one of the cheapest in the town. Let me mention that you can always have a drink at Piano Bar, Lobby Bar or Victoria Lounge Bar where Gin and Tonic is cheaper, served and prepared by barmen.
As you have seen Dubrovnik I belive you have noticed that Dubrovnik does not have sandy beaches and that terain configuration is alowing us to have beach like we have. Guest coming and staying with is, like our private beach, outdoor pool.
I do recognize that we have had a problem (issue with wind sensor) and that is the reason why sun blind on the balcony was opening and closing which was a irritating. We have fixed that issue. Please accept my apologize for that.
Thank you again for staying with us and hope to see you in Grand Villa Argentina in near future.

With best regards from sunny Dubrovnik :)

We got a fantastic deal through LateRooms.com for 7 days in April over the Easter weekend.

We think the hotel fully deserves its 5* rating. We had a top floor room overlooking the sea and Lokrum island. The quality of the accommodation was excellent although the bath was a little cramped.

Breakfast was a multiple choice buffet which I reckon would cater for all tastes - even sparkling wine to make your Buck's Fizz.

After breakfast, a ten minute walk down-hill to Dubrovnik old town. Fortunately, as it was early in the year there were not too many visitors so it was pleasant to wander around and explore. However, from Good Friday to Easter Sunday, the dreaded Cruise ships arrived and disgorged their thousands of tourists into what is really a very small town. It must be hell in the height of summer.

Luckily for us they had left by late afternoon and the town was ours in the evening hunt for good food in the many, many restaurants scattered all over.

One of the best we went to was Konoba Pjatanca just outside the city on the road down from the hotel. Their speciality is lamb cooked "under the bell" which was delicious. Beware, you have to book in advance for that meal as it takes 4 hours to cook.

Another restaurant we liked was Antunini on Prijeko. It was run by two lovely ladies who made us very welcome. Also highly rated by my wife was Poklisar on the harbour.

In the late afternoon we would retire to the hotel patio on the 4th floor for a refreshing cocktail before making use of the in-door pool (too early in the season for the outdoor one), whirl pool and sauna. It was there that my fragrant lady wife was surprised on more than one occasion by gentlemen in the nudie. It was all I could do to stop her spending all day there!

We did not eat at the hotel as the prices were on the high side for our budget.

We would highy recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Dubrovnik. It is perfectly positioned for visiting the old city and day trips out.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms in the Hotel Argentina block overlooking the sea. Conifers may block your view on lo...

We returned last week from a one week stay at the Grand Villa Argentina. All the staff were efficient, welcoming and friendly. The rooms were light and clean. There was a wide choice of food at breakfast which should suit all tastes. The location is wonderful - brilliant views of the old city from the terrace and sea-facing rooms. It was also within easy walking distance of the old city. An added bonus for anyone interested in birds was that there were two wrynecks in the hotel garden. The one slight quibble was with the constant 'easy listening' music blaring out in the lifts, bar and on the terrace. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Dubrovnik.

Having enquired of the driver of the airport bus, which stop in Dubrovnik was the most convenenient for the Grand Villa Argentina, we were surprised and delighted when he made an unscheduled stop right outside the hotel. Hurrah to that man. It was to be indicative of the friendly hospitable service we were to enjoy throughout our stay.

As the stay was early in the season, we were helpfully obliged by the hotel when were asked for a room upgrade. From an inland facing room we were given, upon payment of a reasonable supplement, a sea view with balcony. As my companion enjoys a cigarette, this was an invaluable facility with which to enjoy the (unseasonably?) warm sunshine. A quirky sunblind could't believe the weather either and had a habit of re-winding itself without notice. Reception thoughjt it was the wind but we were unconvinced as the flags outside remained resolutely flacid in the stillness. This was a very small niggle and did not detract from our enjoyment of this perfectly located hotel. The walk back up the hill from the old city became a doddle as the week wore on!

Terrifically helpful staff. Terrific buffet breakfast enjoyed on the sun terrace daily. We didn't spot too many taking breakfast at the start time of 6.00 am but nice to know you could. The free wi-fi in the room was very much appreciated as I imagine there might be something of a queue in high season for the PC's provided in the Business Centre.

The City expects 1.2 Million visitors throughout the season. When the first liner of the season disgorged the first batch of circa 5000 (think of 100 coach loads) it was indicative of how the character of the old city can change. Go early or late seemed to be the universally held opinion by all the locals we spoke to. Of course, we quickly felt this was our little find! Confirmed when we sat amongst locals in a beautiful church for a terrific performance of Verdi's Requiem (eat your heart out Royal Albert Hall).

Loads of excellent eateries both inside and outside the city walls Remain bewildered how the locals manage to get heavy items up all those steps. No need for a gym in Dubronik.

Loved our stay - without equivocation.

Room Tip: Travel in the quieter periods when the Hotel can do their best to oblige. It goes without saying, th...

We have just returned after spending a week at the Argentina. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. The rooms (and the beds and pillows!) are comfortable and clean. Quirky paintings! The breakfast buffet is extensive and the staff responded to our comments that the hot food was rather cold and by the end, it was all up to temperature. The food in the Caravelle restaurant is delicious. We can recommend the Dentex fish! Unlike in the town, the mussels are also well scrubbed and beardless! The gardens are delightful and the indoor pool looked wonderful. The hotel was still gearing up for the full season, but apart from the outdoor pool not being filled, there was nothing lacking. Free Internet use was also a bonus.
We loved Dubrovnik. We were very lucky with the weather. The Argentina and its staff helped contribute in no small measure to a very happy holiday. Thank you to all.

Room Tip: We felt it worth paying extra to have a sea view and balcony. Some of the lower floor rooms might h...

We arrived in Dubrovnik after risking our lives on the coastal road along Croatia from Slovenia and were total nervous wrecks seeking some solace for our frayed nerves. And that was exactly what we got! This hotel must be of the best that Croatia can offer as it is situated on the hill next to the old town with the most beautiful little swimming pool at its foot with a pier directly into the sea for fresh dips if you got tired of the pool. We had a suite with two baths and two rooms - in one of the rooms you could open the whole glass wall and the whole room turned into a magical terracce! In the morning as we opened the drapes a great sailing ship had cast its anchor directly in front of the hotel and it we lay in bed and just took in the sight of the sun, the wonderful blue sea and the great vessel so close we felt we could touch it! Food and service was the best - the prices were high but it was all worth it - go there right now!
