“Great position”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

A very comfortable hotel, perched on the cliff overlooking the crystal blue waters of croatia. A 10 minute walk from the old town makes it a good choice to easily wander down to stroll the walls and visit the wonderful restaurants of Dubrovnik. The service is good with a varied choice at breakfast. A lovely pool with attentive staff. Good size rooms and bathroom (with bath). Unfortunately no tea or coffee making facilities in room but staff are happy to provide teapots/ cups/hot water. Very relaxing and enjoyable stay here.

Room Tip: Room with ocean view is a must , if the budget allows a balcony too.

Just returned from a week staying in this hotel in Dubrovnik. We stayed in a room in the villa with a sea view and a small balcony. The view of Dubrovnik old town and the island of Lockrum and coast was spectacular, as werethe views from the dining and pool area, which couldn't be beaten. Breakfast was really good, offering a wide range of food and beverages. Rooms were traditional in decor, had all amenities you could ask for and were clean. The staff were pleasant and very well presented. We would return to the hotel if we were to visit Dubrovnik again because of it's location to the old town (ten minutes walk) and because of the positive points mentioned above.
A few tips however for anyone thinking of booking accommodation here:
1. Would not recommend choosing half board as the food in the restaurant in the evenings is not five star food. The choice is limited and the quality varies greatly from meal to meal and course to course. Items of food in the dishes are often missing e.g. Rice, ice cream and pasta. Fish, meat and chicken is dry and overcooked. Food is under seasoned. There is no salad bar and very little veg served as part of the meal. The house wine is very expensive. The restaurant does not appear to be used by many guests in the evening. Most seem to prefer to visit the huge variety of restaurants in the old town. Wish that we had as the poor experience we had really spoiled our holiday. The wait between courses was sometimes very long and rarely were we asked what we thought of our meal. The restaurant advertises that it has an executive chef but we didn't see any evidence of this in the evenings.
2. The gym is advertised as 'state of the art.' There was a small range of machines but not what we would expect in a five star hotel.
3. The indoor pool was closed for two days for annual servicing- surely this could have been scheduled out of season?
4. Smoking during meals by several guests affects the dining experience.
I really do hope that the management reading this will address the points made above in order to improve the experience for guests and not just thank me for my review and the positive things I have said.

My wife and I recently returned from Croatia with Grand Villa Argentina being our final stay. Our time here was fabulous in every way. The hotel is situated just outside the Old Town, being about a 10-minute walk away. Our room had a terrace with a fabulous view of the Old Town and nearby area. The breakfast had almost anything one could possibly want to eat in the morning no matter what your preferences. Last but certainly not least, the staff of the hotel was incredibly helpful during our entire stay. From wakeup calls that occurred at precisely the requested time to assistance with our air conditioning in the room to providing coffee and a to-go breakfast when we had to leave at 4:45 am to make our early flight, the staff assisted graciously with all of our requests. We couldn't be happier with our stay at Grand Villa Argentina.

We stayed here for four nights in May 2014 and were seriously impressed. It's a gorgeous hotel that truly deserves its five star rating.

Location - could not have been better. We chose this hotel largely based on its proximity to the old town and were not disappointed. There are simply stunning views over the Adriatic and old city walls, and it took us a matter of minutes to reach the town on foot. There isn't much of a sandy beach (a very small, rather pebbly area in between hotel and old town), but the hotel grounds do offer excellent access straight into the sea.

Facilities - there's a comprehensive array of amenities, with several options for restaurants/cafes/bars. We particularly recommend the piano bar and main restaurant, which are situated on a terrace overlooking the sea and old town. Also deserving of special mention is the little ladder which goes straight from the poolside/sun lounger area into the sea itself. Indoor and outdoor pools also looked good, although with the Adriatic right on tap, we had no need to use them!

Food and drink - Happy hour (which at time of writing is actually several hours, I think from 17:00 - 20:00) is well worth it with discounts on all cocktails (we sampled quite a few!), and there's often live music which really enhances the atmosphere. Breakfast is the best - there's a myriad of delicious delicacies - but the evening choice, though perfectly adequate, was a little limited. We went B&B, and would recommend this as it affords the chance to check out other options for dinner.

Service - all the staff we encountered were very friendly, efficient and eager to help. Couldn't have asked for more, they were great.

Rooms - we were in 309, and had an incredible view straight out across the Adriatic. Full length windows, and very little noise at night (this is coming from a notoriously light sleeper!). Beds were two decently sized singles pushed together, with very comfortable pillows and mattresses. Tasteful décor, beautiful marble surrounds and L'Occitane toiletries in the bathroom, powerful shower.

The only slight criticism we have is down to a water problem that occurred on our third day. Apparently the tap water for that day had been compromised and we were advised not to partake - no problem, except the notice arrived at the end of the evening after we'd been drinking the stuff all day! We were absolutely fine, but it would have been preferable to be informed earlier.

In summary, very highly recommended. We had a great stay!

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are well worth the extra - we were in 309 and looked straight out over the Adriatic. V...

Dear Seasidejules,

Thank you for staying in our hotel and writing such a nice review!
We are happy to see that you enjoyed your stay and that you were satisfied with our staff, facilities, room and location!
Regarding tap water on your third day, we did not inform you earlier as we were informed later that afternoon. As soon as we got info, we have put it in the rooms for guests to kno what is going on. But water was fine in the morning until later in the day when it became undrinkable.

Thank you sincerely for reccomending us and we hope that you will be our guest again.

We were happy to arrive at this lovely hotel but the evening meal service takes so long you lose the will to livel. For example, tonight we sat down at 7pm and by 9pm had not received the sweet. Bring back the usual Headwaiter. After such first class reviews we had good expectations of this hotel but very slow service at dinner is a disappointment.

Room Tip: Side room OK - if you don't spend much time there.

Great spacious rooms, nice view, and close to the old town. Staff friendly. The myth about the breakfast is true. It is very complete. Nice happy hour, too. Excellent WiFi. Missed the coffee/tea pot in the room (but probably you can ask for one).
