“Better than a 3 star.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

It is a lovely clean hotel and the staff are friendly. the food was very good with a good choice, better than a 5star we stayed in at madeira, but you must be prepared for a lot of noise at mealtimes as a lot of the tables are set out in canteen style, but the free beer and wine, as much as you like was welcome.
The rooms were cleaned every day but not many of the sea facing ones had a good sea view as there are a lot of trees between the hotel and sea, we had one right outside our balcony, no view at all.One good thing about the room was the wall safe which was free, most hotels charge you for using them,
There reception bar at night for the entertainment was far to small, a 350 room hotel and the bar only held about 75 people at a squeeze and one night the entertainment only lasted 20 minutes when it was billed for 1hr30mns.
It has a large pool area with plenty of space and beds, a good size adult pool and a nice kiddies one. The grounds around the hotel are kept nice and clean and no horrible smells coming from the drains.
A glass of beer costs £3.75 in the hotel but its expensive in Croatia and its halve the price again in dubrovnick old town as are the meals, so take a pack out with you. It costs 90kns to walk the old wall each, and they wont accept euros.
It was a nice holiday and we found a couple of nice coast walks and do not miss out on the 3 islands cruises with meal included for 250kns each,a nice day out.

Room Tip: only about 12 out of 350 have a clear view to the sea.

There are many positive things to say about this hotel. We found the rooms spacious, more like family room than a single room. Rooms cleaned every day and towels changed. Free safe and hairdryer provided. What a bonus! Good location for visiting the old town. Bus every 10 mins either from over the hill in front of the hotel and across the road to the right, or down the path to the right of the hotel entrance, throught the little shopping complex and past the other hotels to the bus stop. Tickets available in the hotel foyer shop. Beware, there are no safety laws here and people pile onto the bus in great numbers making for a very uncomfortable journey! A shared taxi can be a better option especially if you need to get to the cable car as the bus stops quite a way from the entrance.
The pool area of the hotel is lovely. All the facilities are free including the towels and no need to "bag a bed" at dawn. The views across the bay are fantastic. Cruise ships, tall ships and celebrity yachts provide a constant backdrop to your sunbathing.
We found the food plentiful with lots of choice but rather repetitive. The down side was the canteen atmosphere. It was always a struggle to find a table and the noise was dreadful at times
On the whole this is a good hotel providing a convenient base to explore Dubrovnik, but it lacks a personality. The staff are efficient and polite and I suppose it must be difficult to inject a personal element when the turnover of clients is so frequent. As for the entertainment, the best I can say was that the very young team did seem to work very hard to entertain a very much older audience and inevitably it didn`t always work.

Room Tip: Try not to get a side room as they have no view of the bay. Rooms in the 1000`s are difficult to get...

My friend and I spent a week at the Hotel Valamar Club Dubrovnik on the Babin Kuk Peninsular, from 22nd September - 29th September, 2013.
The hotel was very clean and overlooked the sea; the scenery was spectacular. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was very good and there was ample variety. Our room was clean and met our needs. The large swimming pool overlooked the sea.

The entertainment provided by the animation team, was excellent. The team included everyone when appropriate. They were very professional and friendly. We went on a three island trip on a replica of a galleon ship; a wonderful trip. We also went to Montenegro, another wonderful trip but you need to take your passport, and there currency is euros
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Croatia and would visit again.

I liked this hotel very much and would highly recommend it.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights in September, firstly i would say this is too long in this hotel, its best for a long weekend or 5 nights max. It is a clean hotel, the food was good although repetative. The room was OK, fairly small but the bed was comfy, we had a small plasma on the wall and a safe. No iron in the room and not alot of space to hang/ store clothes. The bathroom was tiny! Very small indeed! The pool was lovely but chilly. I think the biggest downfall of the hotel was the dinning area. Dinner is only served between 7-9pm, which in my opionion is not enough time for all the guests to sit and eat, there were not always enough tables so couples were sat with other couples they did not know to make sure they had seats, i thought this ruined the dining experience, the lighting is too bright and the queues too long, its more of a canteen than dinner hall. They have candles on the tables but never lit them!? There was a grill outside, but they should have a board inside that tells you whats on the grill as its a pain to go outside all the time.
The average age of the hotel guests were 40-65. Overall not a great place for couples and the evenings entertainments was very boring so nightimes were rubbish here :( Overall its a decent pitstop hotel for travellers, nothing more.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view room

We stayed in this hotel for a week and, as you would expect, we found several pro's and cons. One of the big plus points is the beautiful pool area along with the splendid views across the bay. I must add that the sunbeds would definitely benefit from having mattresses. You get pretty sore after lying on them for about 20 minutes!
The small pebble beach is beautiful as well; along with a very pretty walk (about 20 - 30 minutes) to Dubrovnik harbour where the cruise ships and pleasure boats are moored. There are a couple of shops and restaurants nearby where you can get more or less everything you might need. It's also best to go via the shopping precinct for the bus to Dubrovnik as its the terminus and you're virtually guaranteed to get on.
We found the food to be quite repetitive. There was a fairly good selection but the platters weren't always refilled as quickly as they might have been. Most of the waiting staff were very pleasant but a few were quite brusque. The dining room becomes a bit of a 'canteen' atmosphere at meal times as it doesn't seem big enough to cope with the volume of traffic and noise. Perhaps they could extend the evening opening times to alleviate the problem? The wine, beer and soft drinks, included in our meal package, were good and much appreciated.
The upstairs bar staff were excellent, they provided a quick, efficient and pleasant service and were able to remember your order from the first, which, considering the number and turnover of customers, is pretty amazing.
The animation team were also very good; friendly and encouraging but never demanding. They do a good job at the pool etc. as well as arranging the evening entertainment, which isn't fantastic but is sociable and friendly.
The rooms are small but adequate, although it's a bit of a squeeze in the bathroom. We had a quiet room (4023) with a lovely view over the islands although some rooms have no view or a very limited one. The beds were very comfortable, but it seemed strange that the air conditioning couldn't be turned below 22 degrees?
When we stayed (mid September) the majority of customers were well over 50! (which seems to contradict a previous review) this suited us as we are 'over 50' ourselves. There were very few children around at that time.
I agree that the wi-fi is very hit-and-miss, but the reception staff were usually happy to help resolve any problems.
Dubrovnik old town is beautiful. You can walk there from the hotel, (more than an hour) or get a bus or taxi. It does get very busy but is worth the trip. Unfortunately we found everything to be very expensive so didn't bother with the chair lift or the walls, but the churches and museums were lovely and wandering around the back streets is really interesting.
We were ready to come home at the end of a week because we didn't venture further than the old town and harbour but there are some beautiful places within easy reach of Dubrovnik so if we did go back I would make sure to explore further.
We did have a few mosquito bites by the end of the week so it's worth taking the usual plugs and sprays.

Room Tip: We couldn't fault the location of our room, 4023, as it was away from any noise, with a beautifu...

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights whilst on a coach tour. After much difficulty finding this hotel ( it is one of 3 complexes within the vicinity ) we arrived. This hotel is not really suitable for coach parking, so the coach dropped us off and had to drive to the parking lot at the top of the hill. First impression of the hotel from kerbside, not very inviting but this perception soon changed on entering the hotel. All the views were at the rear of the hotel, overlooking the gardens, huge swimming pool area and dubrovnik bay - stunning. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and we were processed very quickly. Our room was very spacious and clean. The bathroom was a good size and the shower worked very well. Wifi reception was very good. Buffet style food for dinner and breakfast - very plentiful and good choices. Wine and soft drinks were included throughout meal times.

We arrived late in the day from Split and even with GPS had a hard time finding the hotel. We saw a sign, but I guess missed the directional arrow to go straight and took the road down to the beach. Also got stuck as I backed over a curb near the beach – don’t tell the car rental company. We eventually found it by driving up a service road. Reception was great, room was nice and the food and wine at dinner was nice. The bus stop to Dubrovnik is up the hill but to the right. The first bus passed us by as we stood in the road, but pointed back to the bus stop. Yes the bus got crowded, many tourists and locals, but it’s a bus for a few dollars vs. a taxi. After breakfast took the bus to the old city, back for lunch and then on to our next stop in Montenegro, only a couple of hours by car. Caution - it was hot walking along the city walls at midday, bring water. Just saw the highlights of the old city.
