Valamar Club Dubrovnik
Ranked #27 of 68 Hotels in Dubrovnik
Reviewed 18 August 2010

I have just returned from one week at Valamar Club Dubrovnik, and my overall impression is quite positive.

The rooms are somewhat small and the bathrooms are of course also small, but they are quite modern and the
shower was one of the best that I have ever come across, at any hotel all over the world.

The "All inclusive light" package consists of breakfast, lunch and dinner, including unlimited wine, beer and different kinds of soft drinks
during the meals (07:00-09:30, 12-14 and 19-21).
All meals are served as a buffet and after a few days, the variety of the food gets a bit boring, but the food is, however,
always very fresh and well prepared, often as "live show cooking".
The only real change on the menu was on Friday evening, when they served grilled tiger prawns and mussles.

The pool area is large, so there is always a sunbed for everyone, but you should not choose this place if you want to have a peaceful and
quiet vacation, because the animation team is really up and running, and the music is almost allways turned on, but during my stay, they
managed to activate people of all different ages. You should also be prepared on the fact that there will be a lot of children in the
pool, and for me, which is the father of a nine year old girl who loves to swim and jump into the pool, this is not a problem, but it
might be for others, if you are not prepared for it....

The Copacabana beach is only a few hundred meter walk from the pool area, and it's nice to take a swim in Adriatic sea as a change,
but it's better to have a sunbead at the pool, and walk down to the beach once in a while, because the beach is covered with pebbled rocks.

The animation team was very professional, without being pushy, and also their "night shows" were reasonably entertaining, at least
compared to many other animation teams I have experienced in other hotels.

If you plan to visit Old Town Dubrovnik, which I think that you should, then I suggest that you do this as early as possible in the morning, because it's
a very hot busride from the hotel area (about 30 minutes, depending on the traffic and the number of passengers)
and it's also very hot inside the Old Town, and it will be even more crowded in the afternoon.
I went into Old Town at 16:00 to watch the game between Liverpool vs. Arsenal, and I much say that both the busride into town and then back again,
were among the worst short busrides I have ever done, but you could of course always take a taxi.

As a conclusion, I would like to mention that we did not pay the full price, because our travel agency had a campaign at the beginning of the summer,
and we got about 25% discount on the normal price, so I'm satisfied with value of the stay at Valamar Club, but I would not have been satisfied if we had
paid the full price, because then you could get a much better deal at a real All inclusive 4 or 5 star hotel in for example Turkey or Egypt.

It started when we arrived at the airport. We had asked the hotel to pick us up and they said that they would send a taxi. When we arrived, we were refered to a bus, and told that we had to wait for an hour because the bus was waiting for other passengers going to other hotels. They did not tell us this when we made the booking.

When we arrived at the hotel, the situation becaume even worse. We had made our reservations 8 months prior to our journey and I had made the reservations directly to the hotel. We had bokked two rooms with balconies next to each other, and told them that we needed a room close to the elevator beacuse my mother is disabled and walk on crutches. They confirmed this but when we arrived, they gave us two rooms that were as far from each other as possible. It is a very big hotel and one of the rooms were at the ground floor (two levels down from reception area) and the other room was in the top floor in the opposite direction of the hotel. Both rooms were as far from the elevator as possible. The room at the ground floor was terrible in many ways. The room and the balcony, which we had paid extra for, was extremely small. The balcony was surrowned by a tight hedge which took away all light in the apartment. (If they had moved (or cut) this hedge, the room and the balcony might have looked a lot better). Furthermore, there were lots of bugs and ants in the room. It was also the smallest bathroom that I have ever seen. In the other room there was a swallows nest in the balcony, which made the cloths and towels there full of bird droppings. When we complained, they said that we should discuss it tomorrow. The same thing happened the day after, and the day after that again. I was really disappointed with the hotel and did really not feel comfortable bringing my mother to this terrible place. I will most definitely NEVER go there again.

We have just come back from this hotel, and were very pleased with this resort, after some negative remarks on the forum.

It is 3 star as stated, but the food and the cleanliness of the hotel is very good. Bedrooms are average size, but have good showers hairdryers and beds are comfy.

It is well situated overlooking the bay, so watching the cruise ships and boats is a lovely passtime. The beach is nearby, and you can get the bus into the city after abt a 5min walk. This is very cheap and runs all day until late.

There are walks along the coast both ways which are very pleasant, and the paths are well kept.

Our only niggle was we booked a balcony room and got a ground floor room with no view, but this was rectified by the Thompson rep the following morning, for another groundfloor room with a view, but we had to pay a suppliment which we didnt think we should have. But we were on holiday so we just relaxed and got on with it.

We will definately go back to dubrovnik but will try the other hotels
in the valamar group next time. A beautiful place with nice people.

This hotel is NOT for the over 50s , the brochures describe a 10min bus drive to Dubrovnik, it is if you are the USS Enterprise, the bus takes a good 30mins and is always packed out, thats if you can fight your way onto one.

There are 5 small bars in a concrete pricinct 10 mins away, they are the only ones for miles.
The hotel restaurant staff you can only describe to say the least as rude / surly, the coffee tasted like i could not describe also the water was only available at breakfast to make tea .

The food was set up for european tastes.

If you sat outside to eat the cats where all round the tables

We paid for a sea view and got a wall ( which after much hassle was changed the next day, other people where not so lucky.

The rooms where very clean and comfortable, the pool was also very good.

The entertainment had a lot of GARAGE Music ( Boom Boom ) just the thing at night with a relaxing drink, which blasted over the complex.

2 years previous we went to the Valamar Pical in Porec WHAT A Difference

Hopes this helps other people

Very welcoming reception and all other staff. Food good but could be a bit more varied. We had full -board which included wine & beer as well as soft drinks.
Evening entertainments by children & afterwards by animation staff were very good
Well situated for a half=hour bus ride into Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik was quite crowded so would not expect it to be so pleasant during the festival. Restaurants are generally reasonable given it is a dedicated tourist resort.
Beaches are stony but the clear water is wonderful. You can buy plastic shoes very cheaply for swimming.

Stayed with my wife and daughter first week of June. Room was clean, albeit slightly small, nice bathroom with superb hot power shower. Paid the supplement for sea view and was worth the extra. Linen/Towels changed every day if required. The hotel itself was lovely, staff from reception to the cleaners were very friendly and a special mention to the Kids club staff who were great with our usually shy daughter.
We had booked full board, so were delighted when this included free drinks at mealtimes and despite the fact that a few people have mentioned that the all inclusive did not mean all day freedom, there were no limits to how much you could eat/drink during service times. The food itself was excellent and varied...fresh pizzas, meat/fish dishes, salads etc and it was continuously refreshed.
The hotel is in babin Kuk which is a 15 minute walk from Lapad, where there is a nice harbour with bars and restaurants and a separate strip with more of the same. Dubrovnik is about 20 mins on the bus which is every 15mins and runs into the early hours, a single ticket costs about £1. All in all a great week and would def go back
