The good: easily the best location for the price. Cleaning ladies are super nice. Easy access to bus routes.
The bad: beside the cleaning staff, the rest of the staff is very short. Not mean, and could be language barrier, but still. There are things you have to pay for that you may not expect (they advertise a private beach, but you have to pay to sit on the chairs even if you are a hotel guest).
Overall, it is the quality of a decent Motel 6 with a great location. If you are not planning on staying at the hotel much, I would recommend. Also, at certain times if the year, there are bands playing on the beach and it is VERY loud, FYI.

Dear Mrs./Mr.,

thank you for staying in our hotel and for taking your time to write this review that will help us to improve hotel service.
I am glad that you were satisfied with room cleanliness and unique hotel location.
I have to mention that hotel beach is not private and that the sunbeds are charged because that is the e company's policy due to high maintenance cost.
Loud music you could hear if from the other hotel across the bay that is not a part of our resort and unfortunately we can't do much about that.
We hope that despite these slight uncomfortable situations you will come and visit us again.
Best regards,
Niko, hotel manager

Hotel Vis is located right on the beach of a quiet bay ( mid May 2013 ). From a sea view room you can hear the gentle sound of the waves. Very soothing. Yet the Old Town of Dubrovnik is only a bus ride away ( The bus stop is right outside the hotel ). Within easy distance there are lovely walks around the bay and onto a nature reserve. Our room was fairly spacious and as with the rest of the hotel smartly decorated. The bed and pillow were very comfortable. The room was also kept incredibly clean. Most of the staff are very friendly especially two of the reception staff ( Pave and Frano ) and the waiters / waitresses and cleaners. The food is very good although I did not like the scambled eggs, bacon and sausages for breakfast. The rolls are exceptional and my wife enjoyed all of the cakes / pastries. You will need to bring protective footwear when swimming as there are sea urchins and some glass. I would definitely recommend this wonderful hotel.

Room Tip: We were in room 231 which is on the first floor. 225-239 all overlook the sea and have beautiful views. The down side is that if you like the sunshine in your room it didn't reach the balcony until 6pm. The good thing though is that the room remained cool. Rooms with odd numbers will probably have sea views.

Stayed in hotel vis for 3 nights half board.First impression of the hotel wasnt great. The common areas are a bit dated and the room is probably what you would expect of a one star hotel.Very dated deco and generally grim. The only positive was the little balcony with a nice view of the beach and mountains.Moving to the positives the food was a lot better than we expected, actually i had better food at the hotel than some of the restaurants in town.Good quality and variety of pork, chicken, beef, fish, sea food dishes thoughout our stay.Breakfast was good as well with variation of cold and hot food and it was very nice sitting on the terrace having breakfast overlooking the pretty beach. The only let down in the breakfast was the scrumbled eggs but other than that everything else was very nice.location is good with easy access to town and the food was excellent so that compensate for the awful room.

We stayed here for four nights. The hotel rooms were a little dated but were very clean and the staff were always helpful and friendly. We had lovely weather so took the chance to use the little private beach and hire the sunbeds. Pebbly so if you like to swim take some plastic shoes! Water was very clear.
Breakfast was fine for me although I didn't have any hot food, enjoyed sitting out and eating it in the sun looking at the bay . Great location to go into Dubrovnik , just buy a bus ticket at reception and bus stop is over the road . Last bus back about midnight or a taxi was about 80 kuna. Be warned eating out was more expensive in Dubrovnik than the places near the hotel but its so atmospheric in the old town it's worth it at least once! A couple of things about the hotel that concerned me a little , we had a balcony overlooking the bay, lovely view but wouldn't have been very safe if has children in room. Also the electrics on the towel rail looked at little "unusual " and there seemed a gap where the fixture was attached the the wall. Again not sure how safe for a small child. However overall a good stay in a good location ! Would visit hotel again

Just back from a weeks stay at the Vis Hotel. Location location location was Amazing! Could not fault the place the staff were VERY friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely lots and lots of choices from the hot and cold buffet-you won’t be disappointed!!! Wireless access is only in reception. The sea/beach is just beautiful/stunning….the only thing is if you want to sunbath at the back of the hotel on the beach, you have to pay for the sun loungers and they are very uncomfortable….you are better going to Lapad Bay its only a 2min walk and their sun loungers are FAB-you will see the blue ones on the beach AND they are much cheaper, it also means you are near the café bars etc. Trips we booked were to Montenegro and Kocula- fantastic…best to book your trips on the promenade by the boys sat behind their stands-much cheaper and you can get a good price from them…One is called Zoki and the other is Rafa. There is so much to do in Dubrovnik/Lapad so definitely going back next year. The weather was just HOT hot hot!...Also when you land get the shuttle bus (£4) into Pile Gate-Dubrovnik old town and then get the number 4 bus (you can buy tickets on the bus-single is around £1) to Vis Hotel…if you are travelling from the hotel to the old town purchase your tickets from reception, much cheaper! You just can’t get lost in Dubrovnik/Lapad. The Croatians are such lovely people and their English is excellent.

Overall excellent place to stay when visiting Dubrovnik!

Room Tip: Room was very spacious and the twin beds are big!
