Me and my girlfriend booked this hotel in July for 10 days based on good reviews and based on the location and sea view room. We must say it is the perfect location. 10 minute bus to the Old Town and it's so easy to get to lots of other stunning beaches, lovely local restaurants and Lapad is in the centre of lots to do and full of friendly people willing to help. We would stay in Lapad again just not in Hotel Vis.
When we arrived, having paid an extra 15 euro's per person, per night for a sea view room, to be welcomed by a TREE VIEW ROOM!!
Yes it was infront of the sea but we couldn't see the pictureque views due to the clever idea of planting trees infront of it. So if you do stay here make it extremely clear you want a room over looking the terrace. That's the pic they show you all over the internet. The rooms are basic, nothing exciting! However, the cleaners are fantastic, we would go for breakfast and by the time we had finished and returned to our room, it was immaculate. Fresh towels, bed made, toliet and shower cleaned (all done daily).

The breakfast is good. Not great, it's the same every morning but you do get a selection so well worth the small amount of money it costs.
You can't get wifi in your room only in the bar/restaurant so the costs are high for no wifi when you can get wifi everywhere else.

HUGE TIP: My biggest tip (which doesn't involve the hotel) is...exchange your money over there. We did and got an excellent rate. In England we got quoted 8.4 kuna for each £1. In lapad banks we got charged 9.33 kuna per £1. So i would strongly advise to do that and get the most of of your money. Even hotel Vis gave a rate of 9 kuna to £1.
Last tip: Try the cable cart restaurant! WOW the view of all dubrovnik and the staff and price is excellent. Our best evening was spent there.

Room Tip: The sea view room over the terrace has the lovely view. Not infront of the trees!!

The worst hotel experience I've ever had! Except the breakfast which was quite good, the rest of the stay at Hotel Vis was a nightmare. With it's close proximity to the beach and being a huge fan of the Babin Kuk area, I really was staying positive but Hotel Vis made it impossible to relax. My friend requested a room change for personal reasons and was met with scoffs, laughs, and inexplicably rude staff. Not only did the first room resemble a university dorm but the price was fairly high for no wifi, no fridge, no safe, and accidental wake up calls at 6AM. Everything was outdated which would be a minor details if the service wasn't horrendous.

Dear Madam / Sir,
Thank you for your comments. Probably you are accustomed to stay in 4 or 5 star hotels. Not all 3 star hotels have safes or mini bars in rooms.
You could have asked our reception desk to deposit all your belongings and valuables in hotel safe sited at the reception. Regarding cold drinks and other beverages, you could have also asked our hotel reception for the cold refreshments placed in the fridges at the reception area.
We are aware that we have an aging hotel and we are giving our best to improve hotel standards. Hotel does not have an elevator, but you should have checked that before booking your stay. As you indicated in your review WI-FI (free of charge) is available at the hotel reception, on our beautiful terraces and at the hotel beach.
We are extremely sorry for the wake-up call you did not order.
Anyhow, it would be much easier for us to find out with our hotel staff what went wrong during your stay if you have left your contacts in our hotel questionnaire you filled out (name, room number, e-mail address…).

Best regards.

My partner George and I have been going to this Hotel for the last six years and it never fails to impress. Came for three weeks in May and going back at the end of August for two more.

Immaculately clean hotel and good quality rooms, very friendly and efficient staff - nothing is too much trouble for them.

Location is superb with a beautiful terrace overlooking the (equally beautiful) bay, with a bus stop right outside the hotel which takes you straight into the old town of Dubrovnik for 12 kuna (if ticket is bought from Vis Reception - more expensive on the bus).

Potential visitors should note that there are no lifts in the Hotel, but it only has three storeys so this should not present too much of a problem.

All in all, the Vis provides excellent three-star holiday accommodation at a very affordable price, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

My wife and I spent a week here and had read, like you are now the trip advisor reviews. We are in our early 50s and not party goers and appreciate fine food, wine, good value and the finer things in life for a stress free break away from work.

Well-its all here. The hotel offers a buffet style menu and lots of choices are you can select A la carte. If you want to saunter out then within a short walk from the hotel are more restaurants than you can shake a stick at and a mixture of beaches (all stony) and the bus service into old Dubrovnic is first class albeit with surly staff.

The hotel staff are great

If i had to search for improvements then as has been already said-no lifts and needs refurb.

But at these prices who cares?

"Psst-Do you want to know the best bit?"-It's totally unspoiled by Scroats as they haven't found it yet so don't tell them please. The only loud voice i heard all week was from kids having a great time in the sea.

Room Tip: Sea views are better but louder coz you're over the restaurant, bars and beach road views cheape...

Visited the Vis for a seven day break with family, booked on the basis of previous reviews. Whilst the hotel rooms were clean, they were basic. The staff were generally helpful but bar staff very slow and at times preoccupied with there own discussions rather than look after guests. The location is good with a bus stop outside for access to town. Now sadly to the negative which is the food, oh dear. This really isn't up to standard, with a lack of variety, bland salads, overcooked veg and meat, a fruit selection which largely wasn't ripe and therefore inedible. The restaurant lacks atmosphere; such a shame when so much more could be made of the location. It would take a lot to visit again. In summary, way off the pace.

Room Tip: Book elsewhere

Dear Madam / Sir,
Thank you for your compliments about hotel location. Your observations about our kind, but unhurried staff will be taken into the consideration. We are sorry you did not like the food. However, since the food is the most sensitive part of everybody‘s service, it is also an aspect of very different tastes. Nevertheless, we must say that precisely the food is one segment of our service where we are receiving very high guests’ rates.
We will do everything we can to improve the service in all our business segments.
Greetings from the entire hotel staff and me.

Location was great. Hotel on the beach and by the bus stop into Dubrovnik - 15 mins away. Buses number 4 & 6. Buy bus tickets from reception for 12 kuna, 15 kuna if you purchase on bus. Taxi back to airport booked from reception 250 kuna. Use Atlas bus from airport and change at Pile Gate to bus 4 or 6 on opposite side of road from where airport bus drops you. Room was good. Bathroom in need of updating. Shower would not stay in holder as pressure high. Shower screen not adequate, so bathroom floor flooded. Rooms clean and maid service good. Breakfast fine. Continental breakfast and small selection of hot food. Lapad where hotel is situated is great. A selection of bars along sea front and towards harbour. The Cave Bar is a must - 15 mins walk along costal path. Another good beach is a 30 minute walk along costal path to Cococabana in Babin Kuk. All beaches are rocky, so shoes/flip flops are a must. There are stairs to enter the sea at deeper points to avoid having to wear shoes in the water. Places to visit in Dubrovnik - Buza Bar - by St Ignaus Church - look for sign - cool drinks with a view. Bar on rocks overlooking sea. La Bodega - trendy bar on 4 floors in one of main squares. Mexican restuarant at Pile Gate end of Old Town within city walls. Visit Lokrum Island - Ferry from Dubrovnik harbour every 30 mins. Trip takes 15 minutes. Island is lovely and has a saltwater lake with cave, a couple of bars and restaurants. The island can be walked around in an hour and the peacocks which inhabit the island may join you. Wish I could have stayed in Dubrovnik for longer.

We were delighted with the Hotel Vis, in fact it surpassed our expectations. The location is right on the beach, perfect for early morning swims in the clear water. There is a bus stop just opposite the hotel for getting to the Old City Of Dubrovnik, and the buses are frequent and regular.
The staff were friendly and helpful and best of all were the buffet style meals with plenty of choice of delicious food. All our meals were eaten at tables on the terrace overlooking the pebble beach. It was quiet as there is very little traffic, some good forest walks on the hill above the hotel.
We would love to go back again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the beach .
