Had a brilliant stay at the Komodor, the staff were all great - very friendly and helpful if you needed anything but also happy to leave you to it and not pester you if not. The room was relatively small but it didn't need to be any bigger, very large and comfortable bed, a massive balcony (room 106), and immaculate thanks to the lovely maid Barbara. We didn't use the pool area as there was plenty of space on the nearby beaches (even in the middle of August!) and the Adriatic was great for a swim. The only problem was the neigbours' bathroom shared a wall with ours and it was quite loud when the shower was on/taps were running etc which seemed to happen early every morning. Breakfast was really good, everything you'd expect to see on a hotel buffet, the evening meal varied each night and was always lovely, and very good restaurant staff.
The hotel is in a great location in Lapad, very close to beaches and the strip of bars/restaurants. Lapad itself had everything we could need and was very reasonably priced and seemed safe - no crime, and nobody pestering you in the street trying to sell you things or begging.
The bus stop is near the hotel and a trip to the old town costs 12 kuna each way and takes 10 minutes. Dubrovnik old town is a must see both day and night, absolutely stunning! Game of Thrones is filmed there. Before we arrived and read that it was 10 minutes we thought it would be in walking distance but unfortunately it's 10 minutes driving on main roads many without pavements so not appropriate for a walk.
