“Lovely place”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

Stayed in Lapad for a week on our honeymoon. Great spot if you like quiet holiday, a bit of comfort and relaxing atmosphere. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was decent however the dinner buffer was very simple (although great for the value you pay). Strange thing is that one cannot order tap water even though it is drinkable and is forced to buy water with your dinner at EUR 4 a bottle. The beach is only 5 min away (with other ones a bit further but through the lovely coastal road). Bust stop bringing you to the old town is right by the hotel so you don’t need taxis. Would come back there if in Dubrovnik again.

We spent four days at the Lapad and really enjoyed the stay. It is located on the Lapad Bay, right across from where the cruise ships dock, so every morning coming down for breakfast, there were some new ships visible. The hotel is a convenient, short bus ride to the walled city which we took frequently. The room we had was clean and compact with a small balcony. The breakfasts were good with great selection and the convenience could not be beat. The staff was courteous and helpful. We did not make use of the pool area, but it looked very nice especially at night with the lighting.
Overall the Lapad is a very nice hotel which we would definitely return to.

We got a great rate for this hotel through Kayak and despite subsequent reservations from TA reviews that the hotel caters overwhelmingly for ‘Brits’ our first impressions were good. The Brits in question are thankfuly more of the mature, early retirement variety rather than the fry-ups and 27 pints of lager, but there’s no doubting that the hotel caters primarily to this market – fine for a few days. The hotel is easy to find by car along the Lapad promenade and private parking is available. Check in was swift, professional and friendly. I do not understand why some reviewers make such a meal of the hotel’s layout – it is a fine, traditional palace building with a modern new wing attached at the back, so one takes a lift to the first floor, and a second lift to all other floors, simple enough? The room itself was modern and functional with a terrace and side view of Gruz harbor. Free wi-fi throughout the hotel is a welcome bonus although this mysteriously did not work in our room for the last 36 hours. One gets the impression that the majority of staff are long-serving, particularly in the restaurant and housekeeping staff will not walk past without saying good morning / good afternoon… and genuinely, not American-style. Breakfasts are great, with more than sufficient choice. We sampled the buffet dinner one evening, which was also good value at 150Kn (£18 approx), but again was predominantly aimed at its British clientele. There are plenty of local restaurants nearby, for example the Otto Taverna. This hotel offers old world hospitality and professionalism without being pretentious – if there was a problem, I’m confident that the staff would do everything possible to resolve. Would definitely stay again if we return to Dubrovnik.

The staff was incredibly friendly at the front counter and the rooms were impressive, very clean and very modern.

I booked the three island tour from the hotel and had a great time at similar/cheaper rates to what was being offered in town. The pool area was great to just relax at on my last day.

My only complaint was the dinner buffet here. I normally don't eat at hotels but I got in late my first night and wanted something easy. At $30/person, I expected something better than dried out meats and raw avocados. Breakfast was good, except for the orange juice like everyone else has commented....tasted like water with orange flavoring and added sugar.

I caught an early bus to the airport during my last day there, they were very helpful in giving me a to go box to munch on at the bus station.

Overall, I would definitely return and the only reason why it's not a five star review is because of the overpriced and disappointing dinner buffet.

We booked our room online the day before we arrived in Dubrovnik. We liked to sound of the Lapad and were happy when they had availability at short notice and booked for two nights.

We ended up with a Junior Suite! It had a separate seating area which could be closed off from the bedroom, so we had lots of space. The outside area was more like a garden than a balcony & we shared it with the room next door. The light switch unit was unfathomable – we just pressed everything until something came on and the a/c unit didn’t cool down as much as we would have liked.

The original hotel building is lovely and a lot of thought has gone into the decor of both the original & new wings. The reception staff were very attentive and able to assist us with all our queries and all spoke excellent English.

The hotel is located approximately 3km from Dubrovnik old town, but easily accessible by a bus which I understand goes about every 10 - 15 minutes. Every bus looked jam packed, so we chose to walk. The walk is pleasant, but in parts uphill and takes about 25 minutes to get to the old town walls.

Positives:

• lovely location
• comfortable bed
• very clean
• friendly & helpful staff
• plentiful and varied breakfast

Negatives:

• pool right by the roadside & very crowded (so we didn’t use it)
• towels in the rooms were small
• light switch unit a nightmare to work out how to use
• difficult to get the room temperature lower than 20⁰C
• very much a package holiday hotel - at times you feel like cattle
• if you were staying in the new wing it was a pain to get to - up in one lift, across a walk bridge, down a corridor & into another lift

Overall the hotel is lovely, but we would probably not stay here again unless we got a really good rate, as we felt it lacked that bit of something special. I can’t fault it, but neither can rave about it. Hotel Lapad is a solid choice for anyone visiting Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the original building, rather than the new wing

Have recently returned from a really wonderful vacation in Dubrovnik.Together with two friends,we travelled on a half board package with Inghams (Lakes and Mountains).
Cannot speak highly enough regarding the Hotel Lapad, immaculately kept and staff very friendly and professional. The food very good indeed, both at breakfast and dinner (buffet style), lots of choice and cakes to die for.Great rooms at the rear of the Hotel (nos 502 and 503).
Location perfect, overlooking Gruz Harbour with plenty of activity and cruise ships to admire.Would recommend the Three Islands excursion,a really great day out ,we travelled on a larger boat booked with an agency near the Hotel, turn left and find the booking office opposite the petrol station, lovely boat, great crew.
As the weather was extremely hot we went to the Old Town just once, taking a no 6 bus outside our Hotel to the Hotel President and then transferred to a waiting empty bus to the Old Town, whole trip approx twenty five minutes, be warned these buses can get packed.
Unfortunately we chose our visit to coincide with four very large cruise ships, it was heaving but very well worth the effort, luckily we had been there on a other occasions on previous holidays.
Would definately choose the Hotel Lapad again, hopefully in the not too distant future.

.

Room Tip: "Choose new wing at rear of Hotel.

This is a very good hotel opposite the bay where some of the cruise ships dock overnight. It is clean and provides very good service (contrary to our failed attempts to get a drink at the Hilton just outside the gates to the Old Town. Some reviewers have commented on the quality of the orange juice (which isn't the best) but get a life.

Staff are friendly and all speak good English. The pool is cold, but is sunny and you have to opportunity to stay out of the madness of the Old Town if three + ships arrive to disgorge their human cargo for a few precious hours of site seeing.

If visiting Dubrovnik again, I would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floors means you can require three lifts to get to ground level if you get in...
