Hotel in the west of Dubrovnik- 12mins from Stari Grad (old town). Beautiful, modern rooms. Excellent service. A full range of optional excursions. Good variety and quality of food for breakfast/dinner.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable holiday in Dubrovnik staying at the Hotel Lapad. We found the hotel to be in a great location beside the harbour. Each morning we would look out from our balcony to see what cruise liner had berthed up early in the morning. The reception staff were very helpful in anything that you needed, as were the staff in the dining room. We stayed half board and enjoyed breakfast and dinner. There was always plenty to choose from both at breakfast and dinner. The rooms were cleaned every day. Many other visitors have commented about the glass door to the bathroom but that didn't bother us at all. We would have liked a balcony that had two chairs on for that early evening drink but alas we took it in turns or managed to fit the chair from the bedroom on it.

We enjoyed many a walk along the harbour side to a small beach where the locals have their small boats moored. The scenery around there is amazing. We were in awe of it the first morning we walked along.

All in all the hotel is in an ideal location to be close enough to the city to see the sights but far enough away not to have the hustle and bustle. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone that wanted to visit Dubrovnik and hopefully we will return again one day.

Really nice hotel, nicely renovated rooms (if you find them - it's quite a labyrinth inside). Only drawback is a bit its location in the lapad neighborhood (lovely harbour from which jardolinija boats leave for islands lopud, korcela) but it's easy (and a 15' journey) to take a bus to old town dubrovnik.

2 October: Just back from Dubrovnik, weather was fantasic 29-30 every day- we stayed at the Hotel Lapad. I would definately recommend this hotel. Excellent cooked breakfast with plenty for fresh fruit & yogurt. We had 3 evening meals in the hotel - 2 buffet (with an excellent range of fish & meats) and one A La Carte - beautifully cooked steak and well presented - definately 4 stars. Room very clean with fresh towels every day, all staff are very friendly, helpful and eager to please. The hotel has a super location with wonderful views over the Gruz Harbour. Ideal if you want to relax by the pool and soak up the sun. Enjoy quiet evenings with music by the pool every night after dinner or perhaps a stroll along the front or head round to the beach bars. Lapad is an excellent base to explore other areas eg: trips to Kotor & Mostar. We went to Mostar, it was an early start but a super trip and well worth going to see the Turkish influence in the area. From the hotel to Dubrovnik 'Old town' (if you walk to the bus station, which is about 8 mins) the bus will have you there in 5mins and the bus stops outside the hotel on the return journey - brill!. Do take a boat trip and definately take the cable car to view the old town - amazing!! Cruise ships are frequent visitors to Dubrovnik, so don't go to the old town until the afternoon as the queue to walk around the walls (worth doing) will be long - go in the afternoon. All-in-all we had an excellent holiday - Drubrovnik and the Croatian people are worth visitng.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony and sea view - they are on the side of the building but the 'side vie...

Any visitor is unsure what to expect as they pull up to a new hotel for the first time , but rest assured Hotel Lapad will not let you down. The hotel is in a great location overlooking the harbour and close to local shops restaurants, and beaches. The no.6 bus stop that takes you to and from the old town stops right outside the hotel, and what a place the old town is! Avoid going from 10-4 as that is when the hordes from the cruise ships descend. Instead take a leisurely evening stroll down the gorgeous cobbled streets of La Placa.
But I digress, back to the hotel. It is clean, friendly and welcoming. the rooms are comfortable and the balcony is great to relax with a glass or two. I do have a word of warning though as the evening buffet food is truly awful (unless you like tinned vegetables), and I say this to be honest as it is the one let down of the hotel. If you have booked half board, I would suggest asking for the packed lunch option (you have to be persistent and chase them up on this) which was fresh and plentiful. One day we even exchanged the evening dinner for a 4 course lunch in the restaurant where we were the only diners! There are too many nice places to eat in nearby Lapad or in the old town to feel obliged to eat at the hotel. Having said that the breakfast buffet is standard fare and sufficient to set you up for the day.
The pool was nice to sit by and relax, although not sure what the sun bed situation is like during the peak of summer. There are also a couple of beaches nearby where you go and swim in the lovely clear water. All in all a great hotel and one I am sure we will return to in the future.

The Hotel Lapad is a very good hotel on the sea inlet opposite the cruise liner wharf at Cruz.
It would probably take a good hour to walk to the old town of Dubrovnik, but outside the gate, on the water’s edge, there is a bus stop. A ticket bought at reception for 10 kunas (12 if bought on the bus), which is about £1.30, allows you travel for one hour from the first use. The number six goes to the main gate of the city, but because the road is one way it is a circuitous route taking 20/25 minutes. Walk the other way a few hundred metres and catch it on its return at the head of the inlet and it is only ten minutes to the city.
Lapad is a refined hotel of character in old aristocratic buildings, but modernised to a very high standard. The rooms are very comfortable.
Food is buffet style (we were half board) and we enjoyed an abundance of choice of very good quality. The restaurant is run very efficiently by its two managers who make every effort to ensure that you are seated to your liking. If it is full (only once that happened) they will seek you out in next to no time to show you to your place. Drinks waiters are very attentive, house red k130, local bottle beer k20 (it was k7.6 to the £ when we travelled.) At lunch time there is a varied menu available in the bar and on the outside terrace overlooking the pool.
Entertainment was limited to discos most night (very much biased towards the 50 plus group who dominated the clientele), but we enjoyed two very good but contrasting style trios – one pop, one more on the jazz and traditional side though willing to have ago at anything.
The pool and surrounds are rather sedate, conducive to restful relaxation.
The Lapad peninsula is itself attractive and there are contrasting walks from the hotel. Follow the water’s edge seaward on a footpath that can take you right around the perimeter, although this would take several hours. Half hour of relatively undeveloped shore brings you to the Copacabana Beach, like most in Croatia a small expanse of gritty sand, where there are some facilities.
By contrast follow the road from the hotel round past the post office and cross straight over the junction into a tree lined pedestrianised promenade. It takes you down to the pleasant Lapad holiday beach, about 500 metres walk, and is lined with pleasant restaurants, hotels and stalls (no hassle in Dubrovnik – you buy if you want).
In Dubrovnik itself the city walls walk (k140) is a must – about two hours leisurely pace, but it is a hard climb up steps in a few parts. It is also worth separate day and night time visits for the city itself as the illuminated buildings take on a different character.
We would also highly recommend the three islands cruise – a delightful day out visiting relatively unspoilt islands, with lunch and wine on board. Most operators pick up on the quay outside the hotel gates. We went with Adriata at k250, well worth the money
We took a Thomson excursion to Montenegro and Kotor (k450) and this was another excellent day out, the stunning coastline of Montenegro well worth seeing, the main road clinging to the mountainside for much of the journey.
In all, a holiday well worth taking to a very good hotel (despite two days thunder and rain, the first for two months!)
We flew from Birmingham on a Thomson holiday and stayed overnight at the airport Ibis Hotel – more than adequate and at a very good price.

Room Tip: Worth getting Part Sea View - on the side of the hotel where terraced gardens lead down to the water...
