While he may have lost his voice Goran was an extremely pleasant host. Never rushing us or making is feel unwelcome, while the rooms might not be extremely special they were still homey and worth the price considering the amazing location. Overall a great experience made better by a friendly face!

If like us you arrived at 10pm, laden with packs, then this place may seem an effort to find.

Fortunately the directions we were given via email proved sound, and it wasn't until the following morning when we took in the whole of the Old Town that we realised how good a spot this was.

Far enough away from the Stradun and the holiday revelers to be quiet, but truly in the heart of the town so that you can quickly sink your teeth into the experience.

The owner was friendly enough, and the facilities serviceable.

The price certainly separated it from others we'd looked up, and in the peak tourist season it felt really good value for the 3 nights we were there.

My only criticisms would the thoughtful, but largely ineffectual air-con unit, and the narrow stairs were quite tricky, especially if it was semi dark and carrying backpacks.

Beautiful swimming pool (in the form of the beautifully blue Adriatic Sea)

Three of us stayed two nights in early May. Paid 840 kuna (about €110) for a triple room, but ended up getting the 4-bedder in the attic, so we benefited I guess. This place is right in a residential area of the Old Town, which is nice - feels authentic. Seems a bit hard to get there through the maze of streets at first (even the tourist office couldn't give us directions) but after a while you get the hang of it. It's minutes from the bustle of the Old Town's main streets. Cleanliness probably could be better, but we only stayed two nights so that wasn't much of an issue. The room was spacious, with a sofa, mini-fridge, kettle and a stove (no pots and pans though). Only one fan, which I imagine could be a problem in summer. The very narrow stairs up might be a problem for those who are older or carrying luggage. Goran the owner was nice and welcoming, and apparently he can offer 20% discounts on day trips to the Elaphiti Islands.

It might not be really really CENTER of the old town but it is located in the old town. I was happy to have found this place for reasonable place in old town. (290 Kuna for 2 nights)

You will have to walk a bit from the Pile Gate and step up lots of stairs to get to Old Town Accomodations, prepare yourself if you have heavy suitcases ! It is close to Isusovacka crkva sv.Ignacija.

It is 4 storey house. The biggest room on the top floor looks like attic. It suits 4 people or more. It looks very nice because kitchen and private bathroom are equipped ! Just wow. Although some part of this house is kind of under construction, it is a lovely house.
As I checked in very early, I had a choice which room I could stay. Both rooms are simple but decorated nicely. As there was no other tourists on the same floor, I did not have to share bathroom with anyone. How lucky !
There is wifi. You can watch TV on the ground level. You can use kitchen. ( no breakfast included, though)
Every room except the attic has only bed and table in rooms. No fridge, No TV.

You have to use spiral stairs to go up and down in the house, that is really small. It might difficult to walk through if you have a huge suitcase.

No Credit Card accepted. You can book this place from hostelbooker. It will show the price in Euro but the owner prefers Kuna, I guess.

The owner is cheerful. He has a cat. If you are allergic to cats, avoid this place.

We paid 60 Euro for a private twin room with shared bath in August (high season). This isn't a trendy boutique hotel, so don't expect perfection. DO expect to enjoy staying on a quiet street in a great location, a super nice owner, and free use of the washing machine (!). There are two fun places to swim nearby off the sides of the city walls. You can jump off the rocks or relax with a drink from the bar.

The only negative was that the air conditioning unit was loud and somewhat ineffective as the vent tube was so long that most of the heat escaped back into the room.

Directions: From Pile Gate, follow the main wide thoroughfare towards the clocktower. Take the 8th right onto Miha Pracata St (if you miss it or enter a different way, it's the 3rd right if your back is to the clocktower). Follow that street up until you reach a T intersection at the top of some steps, turn left, then take the first right up some more stairs. The entrance is #6 next to a bunch of greenery.

To get to Pile Gate from the main bus station, take bus 1, 1A, 1B or 1C. They run regularly and will be packed full during high season. You can pay cash on board or buy a ticket at a stand near the bus stop.

Room Tip: The first floor rooms share a larger and nicer bathroom (with a window), the second floor shared bathroom has no window and is a little dark. The top floor is a nice studio apartment with a kitchen and ensuite bathroom. If you have big/heavy luggage, you might have difficulty with the spiral staircase.
