An interesting place to visit and a good way to spend an hour or so. The palace is well laid out with some fascinating exhibits. It was nice to get away from the bustling crowds of the old town and enjoy some quiet time.

We got a ticket for the Rectors Palace which also included the Maritime Museum and the Ethnographic Museum. We enjoyed all 3 museums and at a cost of only about £8 for all 3 it was very good value. The RP would be the grandest of them with the building being quite beautiful and quirky and as with many places in Dubrovnik all 3 had been recently and well restored. The Maritime museum had some great exhibits and was in a great location. The Ethnographic had great info of life through the centuries, it also had some quite stunning views. An enjoyable day.

On most holidays the big city museums are one of the most worthwhile parts of the trip, however weirdly for Dubrovnik Old Town (somewhere packed to the gills with history!) we found that they were actually highly missable.

If we were recommending things to do to a friend with only one day here, the museums would not be on the list. We were quite lucky in that we had several days here so were able to take the time to visit them, but whilst the Rector's Palace a nice place to look around I found I didn't come away hugely more informed about it or particularly engaged with the history of the place.

If you have time, the palace is worth popping in to see, particularly as it is one of the most important buildings in the city's history, but if you don't have long here don't worry about missing a visit - a good guidebook will do just as well.

Although much of the art on display is of mixed quality there is enough of interest (paintings, silver work, sculpture, photography, etc) together with clear descriptions about the work and either the artist or the subject of the painting to make this a valuable introduction to Dubrovnik, its creative, political and cultural life. As a family we probably spent 2 hours here - you could get around quicker by being more selective, but equally you could spend more time here. The palace itself is a splendid space and ideal for displaying art of different types.

A smallish museum but the curator has done a good job. It tells the history of the palace, its role in the life of Dubrovnik and also the story of one of its key men, Pracat
Loved the collection of iron chests - complicated locking mechanisms were impressive
