“Stylish, comfortable, convenient and secure apartment just inside city walls”
Reviewed 23 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

This apartment adjoining the city wall and just within the Buza Gate was perfect for our 11-night stay in Dubrovnik. We took the easy option of a pre-booked transfer by taxi from and to the airport, using the parking lot outside the Buza Gate, from which it was a two-minute step through the Gate (actually an archway through the northern part of the city walls) to the apartment. A gate (opened by key) from the street leads to a short flight of steps to the balcony, with tables and chairs, and entry to the apartment and its smaller neighbouring apartment. The owner Marina was away at the start of our stay, but stayed in contact by phone and text, as did her friend Rita, who gave us a warm welcome and lots of useful information on our arrival.
In view of the sloping ceilings illustrated in the photographs, we were relieved to find clear, full-height walkways from the door through the kitchen / dining room / seating area, with full-height shower room to the side; into the bedroom and walk-in closet where there was a rail for hanging clothes and ample hangers, as well as plenty of shelving. There were air-conditioning units in the seating / dining area and in the bedroom, the latter creating 'white noise' at night which I found very helpful in drowning out any noise from the street and the restaurant below. Marina was delightful, always ready to help and advise and ensure that we were happy.
We loved Dubrovnik, making good use of 7-day Dubrovnik cards to explore the city and its monuments and museums - among which the Natural History Museum deserves a special mention as being far more interesting than was suggested by the illustration in our guide book! - and using the included bus tickets to visit Cavtat and Lapad Bay. The old port is within easy reach and always interesting, with its boats and fish. We visited the lovely island of Lokrum twice, to sightsee and swim, and found the cafe good value with great service. The apartment is right at the top of many stairs from the Stradun, the main street crossing the city from the Ploce Gate in the east to the Pile Gate in the west. We could (and frequently did) use the step free option of walking back around the outside of the walls from one of those Gates to the Buza Gate, under the archway through the northern wall and so home to our comfortable accommodation. It was as conveniently placed as anywhere within the city walls could be for the cable car to the top of Mount Srd; we found the Fort with its permanent exhibition on the Homeland War of 1991-2 very interesting and a cool respite from the top of the mountain, but the abundant wildlife - birds, butterflies and flowers - was particularly stunning.

“Location, Location, Location, plus excellent owner”
Reviewed 16 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

What else can you say about this great apartment in Dubrovnik. It is located just inside the Buza gate in old town just blocks from restaurants, bars, and tourist sites.
The apartment is large and adequately appointed. The kitchen has a two burner stove top which is more than adequate considering the large number of nearby restaurants you will want to try. The living area and bed room are large with a walk in closet in the bedroom.

The great thing about this apartment is the outdoor patio area. The patio gets sun all afternoon and after a day of touring is a tremendous spot to relax and enjoy a beverage.

We have rented apartments all over the world and I must say the owner Marina was the greatest owner we have rented from. From the moment I made my first inquiry about renting the unit she was very responsive and informative. She provide excellent arrival and checkin information and met us at the apartment upon our arrival. She followed up a few days later to see if we had any questions or concerns. We lost the Wi-Fi one evening but a quick text to Marina the next morning had the issue resolved within a few hours. You simply could not ask for a better situation.

This is a great apartment in a great location that deserves your full attention if you are planning a trip to Dubrovnik.

Fantastic little apartment right at the buja gate. It's simple but it has everything you need, some quirky bits of furniture and great exposed roof trusses. It's certainly spacious enough for two and having the little terrace is so handy. Just a quick walk down the steps and you're in the Main Street in the old town. You couldn't be closer for all the attractions and restaurants. Loved Dubrovnik and this little place although basic was a beautiful way to experience the city. I should also say that Marina is your perfect host and just a lovely person, made us feel very at home.

“Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous”
Reviewed 29 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

What a magical stay in Dubrovnik! Fabulous apartment, fabulous position, and most importantly, fabulous, warm, generous and engaged host.
The apartment was as lovely, roomy and welcoming as the photos showed. It felt as if we were staying in a small house! Plenty of room for our things, a cosy, inviting area for reading and relaxing, and a simple but effective kitchen. The bathroom was great. Everything was clean and beautifully looked after. The front shared terrace was wonderful; sitting out there with a. Bird's eye view of people streaming into the main stairway of Dubrovnik meant you felt part of the city. It also meant you were able to engage and share with other tenants, which was great.

What to say that shows how wonderful Marina is? So friendly, so responsive to her guests, just an amazing, warm hearted and precious human whom I feel privileged to have met.

Thanks for everything, Marina, and for a stunning visit to Dubrovnik. I am already passing on your details to everyone I know who plans a trip to Dubrovnik. Xxx

“Spacious, well-appointed, in an excellent location.”
Reviewed 20 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

My wife and I stayed in this apartment virtually at the northern (Buža) gate to the walled city for 3 nights in September. It is up one flight of stairs past a locked doorway. There are 2 apartments inside, each having a veranda sitting area which overlooks the entrance from the gate, so lots of people are passing through. It's a bit noisy (but not bothersome) during the day, but not at night, as tourists congregate about the large map of the city on the stone wall opposite the apartment (alongside a map showing where all the artillery shells struck the city in 1991-92).

Entering the apartment, there is a well-appointed kitchen to your right, a closet with dishes and rudimentary spices to your left, and a well-lit bathroom with a nice shower. The main room has 2 armchairs and a sofa. The roof is slanted so be careful when rising; my wife smacked her head pretty badly. The bedoom has a walk-in closet with shelving, a second couch, and an old sewing machine table. There is no drawer space for clothing, etc., something the owner might wish to add, but the shelves in the closet will prove adequate. The apartment is well-lit from 3 dormers which overlook the street below, and had nice art. We found it delightful and would return. The proprietress, Marina, was quite friendly and speaks English and German very well. She recommended Kamenice on the green market square, which we tried twice--be SURE to order a plate of the small fishes--my wife absolutely loved them--the best in Croatia. Calamari is also notable. The apartment is located quite a bit higher than the main street, so it entails a bit of a hike returning from the centre; however, it's excellent exercise and we really appreciated getting it.

The caveats: my wife commented she would have liked more towels and softer sheets. There is very convenient parking, and we found a spot just steps from the apartment. We arrived on Saturday night, however, and it was very crowded, very difficult to get a place. Maria met us there and was most helpful in eventually helping us to secure a spot. However, I nicked the side of my car entering the lot. There are buttons at the entrance which fool the uninitiated into pulling close and pushing them for a ticket, but they are duds. People behind me honking wildly and screaming at me in Croatian caused me to pull forward rashly, which is when the car was damaged. You actually purchase a timed ticket to put on your dashboard at a machine in the lot after parking your car. You can purchase 24 hour tickets at a kiosk for 170 kune per day.
