We had eaten a little much earlier in the day and decided to have a little 'bite' and rest in the very early evening from the heat during our exploration of Dubrovnik. Just off the main street in the old town we walked up the alley named Ulica Antuniska.and spotted a little restaurant that did light lunches etc. It was in the shade and there was a light breeze; just the ideal spot we thought. Service very friendly and swift; we ordered two different pizzas (one being a calzone), greek salads and two small small beers. The beers arrived very quickly - very agreeable in the heat experienced. Only a short time later the greek salards arrived followed very quickly by the pizzas. That was quick I recall thinking? I also noted the calzone had grated cheese on top that was not melted.
As I cut in to the calzone at one end it was soft a dough like. I should have realised that if it was dough like at the end, it could not be cooked in the middle. Two or three slices more it confirmed that it was almost uncooked. My wifes pizza appeared to be cooked on the surface but further inspection revealed that the base of the pizza was in layers. All the classic signs of a combo 'Ding Dong' (microwave) oven cooking coupled with the incredible speed with which we got them, confirmed it to us. The greek salads we thought cannot be bad? Errr, no! We discovered the lettuce leaves at the ends were brown and yellow and the fetta cheese tasted unusually strong. Yep, we enjoyed the cold beer on a very hot day in July but that was all.
We would hazard a guess that these pizzas were possibly part cooked in advance then given 70 seconds in the Ding Dong? Goodness knows where the lettuce and fetta cheese had been hiding - perhaps better to to think too long about that!
Without doubt this was the worst pizza I had ever had the misfortune to eat anywhere in the world. I told the establishment in no uncertain terms what I thought about their idea of food. It reminded me of 'Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nighmares'. What a pity we cannot give minus scores on trip advisor.
