“Worth the trip”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

Wild peacocks everywhere! This was definitely one the highlights of my trip. Would recommend to everyone.

Also, take your swimsuit. You can go in the ocean (but be careful of very sharp rocks) but there is also a lost lagoon that is salt water but completely separate from the ocean. Was great for a swim.

“A wonderful way to get away from tourists!”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

This is a real escape from the Dubrovnik tourists and well worth a visit. There seem to be hoards of people going, but once you are there, you can be on your own. We walked the whole island and hardly saw a soul, other than the really accessible areas. Do swim in the "Dead Sea". It was lovely - crowded, but worth it. Jump in, if you dare!

“Peaceful”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Only 15 min on a boat to this little car free island, meet the peacocks then set off and find your own secluded area for a swim and picnic a short walk takes you to the only restraunt on the island for a cold drink and ice cream then wander to the dead sea salt lake for float and watch or take a jump off the
high rocks into the water. a lovely break from the busy old town.

“Very diverse and a great change from the buzz of Dubrovnik”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

We went on a return boat trip from the old town port and stayed for around 6 hours, which was obviously too little time to fully explore this little island.

We are by no means hikers, but walking around Lokrum's narrow paths was simply amazing. Such diversity for such a small island - harsh cliffs and skinny dipping swimmers on one side of the island, a lush forest on the other side with a salt lake and giant cacti inbetween.
There's a couple of restaurants, but just bringing a couple of bottles of water, some snacks and sunscreen is recommended if you plan on hiking.
It's perfect for anyone who likes exploring around or just relaxing in the beach or in an olive grove (where we stumbled upon a wedding ceremony taking place).
Peacocks roam the eastern part of the island and can be heard at regular intervals. We saw two males sitting high up in a tree and stalking people, making their distinctively annoying "BABAA" sound when anyone walked by their tree.
Rabbits can be seen all around the island: we saw little black ones all around who seemed to hide under cacti, bigger brown ones in the botanical garden, orange ones around the fort in the northern part of the island and a grey one laying lazily on a cliffside near the Lazaret.
The salt lake lake was underwhelming - crowded and rather dirty. The main beach was also crowded, but provided a much needed cool-off from the hot day. There is a free shower between the beach and the salt lake.
The northern part of the island was very quiet and void of people, which meant that you could walk in absolute peace and quiet with amazing views of the city and mainland coastline every now and then.
The return ticket from Dubrovnik was 70 Kn / ~10€ per person, which included the entrance fee. The latter is purchased separately if you arrive by your own boat
There are sea kayaking tours that circle the island, which probably gives a great idea of the island and also enters one of the hollows in the cliff on the southeastern coast.

We would definitely recommend exploring Lokrum as a whole day event.

“paradise island”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

take the ferry from Dubrovnik old town ( about 15 minutes) and you land on this lovely island - with rocky beaches, tree-lined coastal walks, a ruined monastery, picnic areas and friendly bars. Peacocks roam around near the landing bay. Such a great break from the hustle and bustle of the old town!
