This hotel has a wonderful terrace with tables overlooking the bay and serves fresh sardines, local wine and fresh bread in a wonderful setting. Great for a quick lunch of long drink after walking along the seafront walking trail which starts here.

We went out for a stroll along the Lapad seaside walking path to watch the sunset. Afterwards we wanted a light late supper. The bistro on the seafront terrace at the Kompas Hotel was appealing, and we ordered pizza, risotto and beer. Mine was a seafood pizza containing mussels, sardines and anchovies all done up in a sort of tomato and cheese topping on a flatbread crust. It seemed like a hybrid between Italian and American-style pizza, with a super-fresh and puffy crust. The vegeterian pizza was similarly delicious, with its topping of assorted fresh veggies. The leek risotto was a huge serving, creamy and delicious without being overly rich.

In addition to the food, the other outstanding aspect of this restaurant was its prominent place along the sea wall promenade: perfect for watching the sun sink into the sea, and enhanced by a live jazz group. All this, and yet the price was extremely reasonable. Lucky we enjoyed it all this night, as the terrace bistro was closed the very next day for renovations.

The outside restuarant is perfect for a dinner whilst you watch the sun set, over several lunch and evening visits we had some very nice meals including pizza, steaks and fish, they have various folk and duo's singing.

Service in many restaurants in Dubrovnik seems to be slow, but on our visit here it was very slow indeed! We shared a cheese and ham platter as a starter, but it must have taken over close to 30 minutes to appear! It was a shame that the service let the restaurant down, as the grilled squids I had we're perfectly cooked and the pizza my wife had was also nice. In addition, it has many tables right by the sea and the hotel seemed to put live music on most nights. We may have been unlucky, so it's worth trying if in Lapad
