“Not 5star service, excellent setting.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2011

Had interconnecting rooms with most beautiful view. Pool and sea area also superb. What ruins the hotel unfortunately is how rude, abrupt and cold the staff members are. Certainly not five star standard and make it quite clear how they would prefer to be anywhere but there! This is especially directed toward the breakfast waiters /waitresses. Turn down service consists of popping a chocolate on your pillow. No turndown of duvets, wet towels on the bed and in bathrooms ignored. Not quite five star standard. Restaurant manager on 7th floor and blonde British waitress at pool snack bar the friendliest and warmest members within whole group. Besides this, the food excellent, and cannot beat the setting of this hotel.

We stayed in Palace from 10-15 of August.
Hotel is nice, rooms a specious and service was quite nice. You could fell some kind of coldness around as apparently they just change the owner of the hotel so staff was a bit afraid for they jobs. Don't know haw smart it is to do this just before the season for them. Staff had no problem talking about it and this actually made us fell a bit uncomfortable as we were there for vacation.

Overall Dubrovnik is great. Very very crowded in that part of the year but still there is a lot to see. We loved some of the small restaurants in small streets around. A bit expensive for our taste but......

Definitely like to recommend. But.... look for other hotels and reviews as there are many hotels near by.

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for your honest review.
I must say your review took me by surprise because I didn't understand that the current company situation is something our employees would discuss with our guests. I believe they were only individuals and I apologize. I'm sorry it made you feel uncomfortable while on vacation, however I assure you there's no need for our employees to be concerned in any way.
I sincerely hope you still had a relaxing and enjoyable vacation regardless and that you are already planning your next trip to Dubrovnik and a visit to our hotel.
With kind regards,
Rade Malobabic

We moved here for the second part of our stay in Dubrovnik having spent 3 days Dubrovnik itself.

The view is of the elephite islands. What a marvellous sight on arrival. We had a very pleasant stay here, the rooms were large with a well equiped bathroom. The chambermaids were cheery as was the restaurant manager. Two nights we had cocktails in the outside bar whilst playing cards and one night we ate in the tavern as a croatian folk group were performing. This was the best food that we ate in the hotel. On our arrival we ate our lunch in the eating area beside the pool - this was a success with the right sort of food and clearly it was a popular and enjoyable place to be.

We had been a bit bothered about how time consuming and hassly the local bus might be, but it was wonderful. It ran every 15 minutes and delivered us back every 15 minutes. We never did succeed in catching the shuttle bus as it only ran every hour, but the local bus was cheap and easy as the pile gate the the hotel itself were the termini.

The pool area looked quite busy with all the loungers covered in towels, but we didn't bother with the pool until the last night when we had the place almost to ourselves and the bartenders.

The buffet breakfast was goodish - we used to stay at the Forte Hotel in Santa Margarita in Sardinia which we use as our yardstick as it is difficult to see how such a breakfast could be surpassed.

Lovely hotel.

Good service. Great facilities. Luxurious experience. Bus stop directly outside the hotel with a private shuttle to the old town (10min). Private beach and nice pool area. The room was comfortable and very clean. Ours was cleaned 2 times a day!

We booked the DOBLE OCEAN VIEW Room Not a Single Ocean and huge trees View Room that we can see only trees and far far away from the lift. We requested to change the room but they sent a house keeper to connect two single beds to make one. It took 30min. The room looked like a 3 star hotel room.
We request to the staff of front desk to change the room but he said our room was last one so we can change next morning and he will leave the message to his colleague that we don't need to explain about it again.
Next day, no staff of front desk knew about it that we had to talk about all the same thing again then they just made an excuse to their colleague. It was unbelievable how the 5 star hotel staff handle their work and treat the guests like that. At last, we could change the room with higher floor and better view after talk with the manager. It was quite hard to get the room we booked and expected.
I highly recommend to choose another hotel or to make sure the type of the room and the view.

Dear guest,
thank you very much for your review. It is very valuable to us.
As I already mentioned in many of the responses: all of our rooms are facing the sea, however some of the views are partially curtained by the pines, surrounding the entire hotel and the area. I suppose you preffer to soak up as much sun as possible, during your vacation, so I hope you were pleased with the view in the new room you got. And, as I mentioned before, our reception team will gladly make the change, if the occupancy allows it. I believe your experience was just a miscommunication, however I apologize for the inconvenience.
I hope the rest of your stay was enjoyable and that you liked Dubrovnik.
With kind regards,

We had two connecting rooms. The rooms were quite small and the interior was very dated. The (small) bathrooms seem to have been refurbished more recently and was better. The rest of the hotel also is a bit tired and, depending on your expectations, not what would be considered a 5* hotel in most countries. ASK FOR A HIGH ROOM when you book or you will not have a view due to trees.

Staff overall were very friendly and efficient, no complaints at all.

The Breakfast buffet (included) was very extensive and sitting out on the terrace was very nice

Beware, like other reviewers here note, if you enquire about dinner at the hotel they will point you to the expensive restaurant on the 1st floor. There is however a buffet dinner on the 7th floor in the Elafitti restaurant (where you have breakfast) The restaurant will easily cost you EUR150 for 4 whereas the buffet will run you about EUR60 for 4. I'd recommend to go into Dubrovnik for dinner either way as the buffet was only so-so

the pool area is ok with a bar and a snack restaurant. Everything faces the ocean and its a bit squashed but not too bad. Swimming in the ocean is a bit of the challenge as you either have to access from a pier as there is only a 4m wide beach-like access where you can wade in to the far north of the property . Like everywhere half the loungers are un-occupied yet "towel-reserved" which is annoying. You get as many free towels as you need though. There are some activities e.g. a diving school, jetskis, paragliding, but some were certainly expensive (EUR 130 for 60mins jetski??)

The hotel has a free hourly shuttle to go to the city but it was only EUR8 to take a cab so thats what we did. The ride takes about 10 mins. Its a 30 min taxi ride from the airport (about EUR40)

Overall we had a nice time but the dated nature of the hotel which is advertised (and charged for) as a 5* hotel when it really is not 5*, leads me to only rate it average.

Dear guest,
thank you for your honest review.
As an answer to your statement about the dated nature of our hotel I have to say that Dubrovnik Palace was completely redesigned and refurbished back in 2004 and is 'refreshed' on yearly basis ever since. However, I understand that you may not like the minimalistic interior design of our hotel. I still hope you spent a nice holiday overall.
I hope you will not mind me suggesting, but our hotel group has two other 5* hotels (Excelsior and Bellevue), both in 10 minutes radius from the Old town, and both quite differ in interior design both from Palace and each other. You might find one of them more appealing.
Thank you for choosing Dubrovnik as your vacation destination.
We are looking forward to your return.

Very good location and facilities. However very poor attention to detail.
We booked well in advance and asked for rooms on high floor. Got 2 rooms on the 2nd floor (ground floor.) Complained to both front desk & manager - both unsure on our reservation details and could not provide any suitable alternatives.
Our hotel maid was always slow to make up the room. We would request early, but it took more than 3hrs for her to come and clean the room. This was consistent over the five nights we stayed. The used complimentary toiletries were not replaced, we ended up having to ask the maid.
Light fittings in the room was loose and kept falling out as it was held in place using plasters. I am used to using plasters for cuts and wounds but never for attaching light fittings ! Light bulb not working was never replaced.
Lifts are slow and only accomodate 6 persons max. On one occasion, the lift doors would not open an we were stuck between floors. Eventually the lift started after pressing many buttons in panic.
Having stayed in many superb hotels across Europe, US and Asia - if you expecting 5 star experience at Dubrovnik Palace (as we were) you will be significantly disappointed. Closer to 3* + / 4 *.
