“What a great holiday is all about...!”
Reviewed 2 September 2011

Stayed here late August - originally was going to be a long weekend but decided to make it a full week and really glad we did. If we had had to leave after a few days I would have been gutted!! Reading other reviews - yes, I suppose they could be one or two minor niggles that shouldn't really exist for a 5* hotel but on the whole this place was great for us.
The cleanliness is excellent and the layout of the hotel very well thought out and the building responds superbly to it's stunning coastal location. Our room was just fine and the balcony great. Lighting in the bathroom was a bit gloomy but was very clean. Pool area and pool bar were excellent and the views from this area generally are to die for especially the sun-sets. Didn't find the cost of food and drink particularly expensive and the terrace restaurant had a simple but very good menu and wine range. This restaurant also had regular live entertainment which was also of a very high standard. There is an hourly free shuttle bus provided by the hotel to get you to the Old Town but this can get busy but the local bus also goes from outside the hotel every 15 minutes from first thing in the morning until 2.00AM - this is quite cheap and so was never a problem for us. The Old Town itself is superb and is very lively every night of the week.
The climate in late August was particularly pleasant (low-mid 30 degs daytime) and is also very pleasant in the evening and you don't need to wrap up when the sun goes down.
Couldn't really fault this hotel at all - great facilities - pleasant staff IMHO(contrary to some reviews ). We will definitely go back to Dubrovnik and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Dubrovnik Palace. Excellent!!

Room Tip: Definately ask for a sea view and preferably high to overlook the trees

We stayed here for two nights but could have stayed much longer! The interconnecting bedrooms with bathrooms were very good, with extremely comfortable beds. The balcony views were stunning. The facilities were outstanding; wonderful pools, several private points of access to the sea, and a helpful complimentary shuttle bus to the wonderful old town. The buffet breakfast was very high quality with lots of choice and the restaurant food was superb as well as the service, even the poolside bar food was delicious. The staff generally were polite, helpful and understated. Very highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived we relaxed, lots to do in the hotel itself and just a short bus journey to the old town. From the excellent food to the rooftop terrace and pool overlooking the Adriatic this hotel has almost everything to offer. The drink is not cheap but then it doesnt seem to be that cheap in the old town either. All in all we had a brilliant week lounging around the hotel with the weather hitting 33 degrees each day we were there. P.s. try to go for a swim in the sea each day, it's the best cure for a hangover i have ever come accross and the water is amazing.

This "palace" has a great location but our feelings are mitigated.
The rooms are Nice with a great view but are not well tidied (moistures in the bath...)
The personnel is unequal:
- really good for the réception, room service and advisory facilities
- bad for the restaurant (except for the supervisor and 1 or 2 waiters). They hurried us while dining and were very unexperimented.

The bar near the pool does great cocktails but has some drawbacks (rotten fruits in a basket...). The personel is enthousiastic and very professional. And PLEASE, buy other cd's (three or four is not enough for a whole week!!!!!!!!!!)

We were surprised to see a Hoover during whole days in the corridor near a dirty tray on the ground.

The pool is not cleaned (or badly... Broken glasses or gravels on the floor). Nobody supervise swimmers...a girl had great difficulties in the water and that is a client who has helped her.

The personel of the beach restaurant is not here to serve but only to earn money.

The sato sushi bar is very expansive for sushis (no pricelist outside) but the team in it is the best of the whole hotel).

The hôtel had the good idea to offer me a cake for my birthday!!!!!

To conclude beautifull location but some of the personnel don't seem to know that their their job is to wor FOR the client and should forget lazyness and badmood

Very helpful staff. Rooms were very clean, comfortable and quiet. Free shuttle to town was a nice touch. Buffet breakfast offered great selection of fresh food. Cappucinos were fantastic along with service. Beautiful hotel and easy to get to old town and Lapad by bus

I love this hotel.

Picture this: You wake just after 7am, shower and head to the rooftop pool where you swim a few lengths and enjoy the hot tubs before heading down to get dressed for breakfast. Choose from a cornucopia of fruit, charcuterie, cheese, yoghurt or go down the bacon and egg route. When replete, prepare yourself for a few hours on the terrace watching the sun on the sea or reading your book under the white parasols. There are always enough loungers even in August. Have a swim, go on. The temperature is perfect. Once you've dried out, head to the cafe for calamari and chips washed down by some local wine. Feeling very happy, have another hour or so in the lounger before walking down to the bay. You need some exercise! Explore and maybe book a boat tour. Now, what will you do this evening? Once you've showered and dressed in your best where will you go? The Lanterna is very romantic with the water lapping on the rocks, very nice refined food, wine and service and sometimes entertainment. Then again you could always head to Dubrovnik. It's easy. There's the hotel bus but the service bus is more regular. 10-15 minutes and you're there. It's like a massive party (we were there in august) with people everywhere. Lovely wee restaurants and great cocktail bars with open ground to people watch to your heart's content. The buses seem to run to at least midnight but the taxis are reasonably priced.

The serious stuff: Major service is available if required but otherwise it's perfectly pitched. 4th floor rooms have large balconies, service in the Masalina may be slow but are you in a hurry?

If I win the Euro Lottery I will definitely retain a room in this hotel.

Not sure if this is ok to post on this website but Croatia is great: temperature, country, hotels, restaurants and despite the language differences everything is easy.

Dear guest,
thank you very much for such a great review! I really enjoyed reading it.
I believe that everyone reading it could almost experience what you did, but only almost, because you just have to live it, right?
I'm glad you enjoyed everything our hotel and our city has to offer.
And of course it's OK to say Croatia is great - we think so, too.
Looking forward to your next visit.

We returned from a first time holiday in Dubrovnik this week. We stayed at the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel just outside of the city. We had a room on the 5th floor with a lovely view of the coastline. The room was spacious, clean and cool. The pool area is quite small but there are other sunbeds on the rocks by the sea. It's a pity the hotel (like all others we have stayed in) don't stop the practice of reserving beds. If this was not accepted there would be beds for all as many were empty for most of the day. There is a terrace with access to the indoor pool. Very peaceful but no bar available there. This is not a good hotel for people with mobility problems and I would not recommend for families with small children but for couples it was lovely.
We have mixed view about the staff. The management was really good. It was my birthday while there and the hotel gave me a lovely cake in the afternoon. There was also no problem in changing a menu one evening for us when we went to a show which was fabulous (pity they charged us about £40 for a bottle of very average wine!) . Only downside was with a few of the staff at breakfast who were grumpy in the morning.
Shuttle bus to town great but busy. If full the public bus is frequent and cheap.
We went into town on the bus to eat most evenings and had a lovely last evening at the top of the cable car watching the sun set. Also only a 15 minute walk down the hill to Lapad where there are many bars and restaurants that serve good plain food at reasonable cost. A meal out costs about 250 kuna = £35, a beer 40 kuna = £5 and cocktail 50 kuna.
All in all, Dubrovnik enchanting and the hotel lovely. I have already recommended to a friend!

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have best views
