“Great experience, but about the breakfast...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2007

We stayed here 3 nights in the old Grad of Dubrovnik. We got the Gundilic suite (no room numbers, names of famous Croatians, he's a writer), which was a large room bisected by a table/TV into a bed area and a sitting area. The room was great! Very tasteful decorations, a two-foot wide balcony if you wanted to use it - it overlooked the square with the morning fruit/vegetable market (and a statue of Gundilic), and the softest bed in Croatia. The shower is above a ceramic tub; so you spill water all over an enclosed space when you wash. The staff was extremely glad to see us and offered useful suggestions to our inquiries. However, when asked about restaurants, they picked the two most expensive places first (sometimes you just want a pizza!).
Breakfast was an adventure. On one day, the fruit salad was a bowl of apples and canned peaches in a lake of syrup. On another day, the hot apricot compote was just the canned peaches in more syrup. Room temperature coffee was served once. Then there was the time I ordered an omelet with fruit and got two pancakes and a scoop of vanilla ice cream (!). The restaurant and food service are not at the same level as the hotel. Other than that, the hotel did great.
When you visit, be aware that the bells for morning Mass ring at 6 AM sharp. With all the stone walls and streets, you will hear them.

We just returned from the Pucic Palace last week. The hotel is average at best, The rooms are fine and clean. In any other city in the world this would be a 2 or 3 star hotel and would cost about $150 a night. It is by far, without question, the most overpriced and worst value for money hotel I have ever stayed in. Dubrovnik is a tiny walled town and MANY hotels are within a few mins. walk of the town walls. (the Hilton if at most 5 mins. from the front door of the Pucic.) There is no need to stay right in the heart of the old town. The soundproofing is good for the market but terrible for internal plumbing and noise from floor boards. The lobby noise also resonated all through the stone building. The service is average at best but they love to look at you like you are crazy in asking what time the movies are etc. Our shower overflowed the first day and when we told them that it wasn't draining they were sure to tell us that were wrong and there was nothing wrong with the draining. The second day, when the whole bathroom flooded from a 4 min. shower, they finally fixed the problem. I would never in a million years stay here again, mostly because of the price. The breakfast is hilarously bad, good stories to take home with you but beware of this hotel. I have no idea how it has managed to charge these fees for such humble quarters. I can't express how much we felt ripped off by the price of this hotel. We knew it would be a little overpriced but it could be the biggest scam in the northern hemisphere.

I stayed here with my husband last May 2006 and we found it to be a beautiful experience. The service was great . A nice breakfast is included. You can chose to eat it outside in the old square or on the roof deck. It was nice to sit out in the square before it got busy with fruit vendors and such. The sun would shine on us while we drank our coffee at a quaint table. The beds were very comfy. We had a room overlooking the old square. So waking up in the later morning was peaceful because you could listen to the market being set up. . . It is right in the Old town which makes it easy to get around. A really nice time! I couldn't believe the bad reviews this hotel got. I would suggest, like always, to tip the man who brings in your luggage and tip the concierge whom you book it through. It is good to book directely I think - since you create a relationship with the concierge
