We stayed here 3 nights in the old Grad of Dubrovnik. We got the Gundilic suite (no room numbers, names of famous Croatians, he's a writer), which was a large room bisected by a table/TV into a bed area and a sitting area. The room was great! Very tasteful decorations, a two-foot wide balcony if you wanted to use it - it overlooked the square with the morning fruit/vegetable market (and a statue of Gundilic), and the softest bed in Croatia. The shower is above a ceramic tub; so you spill water all over an enclosed space when you wash. The staff was extremely glad to see us and offered useful suggestions to our inquiries. However, when asked about restaurants, they picked the two most expensive places first (sometimes you just want a pizza!).
Breakfast was an adventure. On one day, the fruit salad was a bowl of apples and canned peaches in a lake of syrup. On another day, the hot apricot compote was just the canned peaches in more syrup. Room temperature coffee was served once. Then there was the time I ordered an omelet with fruit and got two pancakes and a scoop of vanilla ice cream (!). The restaurant and food service are not at the same level as the hotel. Other than that, the hotel did great.
When you visit, be aware that the bells for morning Mass ring at 6 AM sharp. With all the stone walls and streets, you will hear them.
