Five star service for a 3 star hotel. It was beyond expectations, very clean, excellent food. The pool was very nice and especially with the bar. The Wi-Fi worked very good. The location were good, not far away from Old City. The hotel was very cosy and we are very satisfied.

Special thanks to Toni, the manager.

As mentioned in previous reviews, this is a nice hotel in Dubrovnik, close enough to the city center (a short bus ride). The room we stayed in was nice and extremely clean. The pool is also very pleasant.

Take the short walk to the next door hotels as the bars have great views and pleasant atmosphere.

Room Tip: Take a room with a balcony facing the park. Avoid rooms in the inner courtyard as these can be very...

I was having a 4 day break to Dubrovnik with my wife, this hotel looked good from the reviews and we were not disappointed. The room was good and the bed very comfortable. The air conditioning was good enough but it did not give us an instant cooling when we entered the room, having said that, it was very hot 35deg during the day and we were kept cool during the night. The controls in the room were for looks only! The hotel was well kept up, the breakfast was included in our price and was extensive in the variety. Full fry, continental pastries, cold meats & cheeses, fruit and cereals. There seemed to be a rush from about 8 am for about half an hour or so, appart from that no queing or waiting. The pool was nice, plenty of shade if required and there were sun shades on offer from the pool staff, no requirement to throw towels over loungers, there was plenty to go around. The hotel is in a complex of 3 hotels all with amienities we could use. There was a nice walk along the coast to a popular bar/restuarant area where there was lively night life. The old town was a 10min bus ride away and tickets are best bought from the kiosk in the city, although you can buy them on the bus. Getting from the airport was easy - get a taxi. There is no courtesy shuttle and it's about £30 each way.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay, a good hotel and we would use it again. Best bit, the location; worst bit, it has lots to offer but you have to root about to find the staff, once you find them they're generally very helpful.

When looking for a Hotel to stay near Dubrovnik, the Tirena seemed to have everything we (as a couple) were looking for online and obviously the reviews are fantastic, and i usually use tripadvisor as a great guide for others' points of view and tend to go with my instinct. I would admit, we were quite disappointed with the lack of facilities the Hotel offered and for the price of £100 a night for Bed and Breakfast i think it was poor value.

Pros:
The Hotel had an excellent link to the Bus Service, number 6, into the Old Town and surrounding area. It was a nice walk to the Bus stop through a shaded leafy path and there was always a bus waiting. The trip took about 15minutes into the Old Town.
The swimming pool at the Valamar Lacroma could be used, altho this was not clear, we only knew it from reading the reviews. The pool has great views and altho the water is freezing it was nice (ish) when it was very hot. The other hotel pools were a bit further to walk and we did not attempt to use these. We also used the Lacroma bar lounge which was far nicer than the Tirena. The Tirena Bar was empty 70% of the time.
The rooms were large and clean. Very nice bathroom. Very modern and there was a mini bar full of goodies, altho we did not use it, but was handy for a fridge for storing drinks. We had a twin room and the beds cannot be quite pushed together. There will be a biggish gap inbetween. There was no choice for a double bed on booking on hotels.com
There were a handful of shops behind the Hotel, so these were handy for a bite or for cold drinks to take back to the room. Ice cream is very cheap here so was nice after a swim! The restaurants do not compare to the Old Town tho!

Cons:
The Hotel did not really look modern in other places apart from the room. It had a 90's Benidorm feel to it and was lifeless! The pool was disappointing and smaller than expected with no nice views. I feel the photos of the Hotel from its site are a little deceiving. I chose the Hotel because the others were very expensive at £120-£140 a night. This one was £100 and in the same area but i feel it was not worth this.
Bed sheets were not changed over our 4 day stay. Maybe the Hotel can state that they clean sheets if they are removed from the bed and left on the floor. ?? I presume that's the only way they'd change them. Never experienced this before.
The Breakfast was vast, but always the same choices daily. If you've ever visited somewhere like Egypt then you'll have experienced a monster buffet breakfast! This could not compare, and i know it rates highly online for its food. Bread was dry, (altho it seems to be dry generally in Croatia) and the quality of the food was average in my opinion. If you want the dinner buffet you need to pay approx £15 each, which is very expensive. The outdoor seating at the back of the hotel was also very disappointing. The back of the Hotel overlooked a slightly grubby looking courtyard of unused shops with wasps nests tucked away into the corners of the walls! Again, not what i want to pay alot of money for.
Service of the reception staff was relatively poor also. We were not given any information when checking in. I had to ask about Breakfast, etc. When we checked out they did not ask how the stay was either, or thank us for staying.

Tips:
Walk down to the Valamar President Hotel near the bus stop and carry on downhill, the beach there is by far the best to walk to!
Take the Elafiti Islands Trip. It wont be a tour tho! It is just free time on 3 islands! And the fish picnic is literally a medium sized fish and some peppered coleslaw! With wine or cola/orangeade/water. Lokrum is the last island and you will have 2.5hours here! Take the golf buggy taxis which you can't miss. They take you through the island's centre to the sandy beach on the other side! It is the only sandy beach we saw and is WELL WORTH IT! My favourite part of my trip. It costs 20Kuna each. (£2) The walk is too far unless you want to get burnt!
The best restaurant we found was Dubravka next to the Pile Gate. (pronounced Peeler!) It has a website, dubravka1836 and the food is awesome and SO cheap! If you compare it to any other restaurant then it's value is amazing. And it would appear by sight to be expensive. It has great views too and is lovely at night. A giant pizza with many fresh toppings is only approx £7. Beers are very cheap in Croatia. A pint is approx £2.50-£3.
Buy a Dubrovnik Card. You get them online, which you collect from specific locations, or at your hotel. They are 1 day, 3 or 5. They include the City Walls and 10 Bus Trips plus all the main Museums. The City Walls and the Buses you will no doubt need to pay for, then the Museums come as a bonus. They give you the booklet too which shows restaurants you can also use it at. Dubravka1836 is one of those, so 10% off is a bonus.
Change your money at the Hotel or the Stradun Foreign Exchange. The rate was better than at the airport. You need 35kuna per person into the Old Town. Get the number 6 bus to the Hotel. It stops on the other side of the road from where the airport bus drops you. Get off at the last stop. BABIN KUK.
If it's due to rain AT ALL during the day then do not go on the City Walls! You can only get off just after halfway if you need to. So, after 1km! Take water, you'll need it!

Enjoy your trip. Don't be afraid to pick apartments/SOBE/Guest Houses. All hotels are very expensive.

Room Tip: Away from the bar. Sea Views are rare to get unless paid for!

Spent 2 weeks from the 4th July until the 18th 2012. Fantastic value for money & no charge for safe or air-con which is unusual. Reception staff helpful and friendly and rooms immaculately clean. Breakfast is superb and far superior to other 3* hotels I've stayed in before. Easy to get into the old town and buses run back as late as 2:45 in the morning! Well worth staying here, highly recommended!

Spent 10 days here from 8th July, fantastic hotel for 3 star, the choice in the restaurant both at breakfast and dinner is really fantastic, I defy anyone not to find something they like here!
Swimming pool area is really nice, plenty of space and no rush for sunbeds, umbrellas always available and pool staff very helpful, Pool bar is good also, special thanks to Tomislav for making us lovely cocktails every afternoon!
Bedrooms are very spacious and the bathroom is quite luxurious. Didnt use our balcony (except for drying towels!) as it was very hot so wouldn't book a room with balcony in July as its not worth the extra charged. Air conditioning was efficient and a must have in July.
If I had to find a 'downside' it would only be that there are not any sea views from any public areas in the hotel so no where with nice view to sit at night, but go to the Hotel Lacroma next door and, it has the wow factor from its terrace bar area and really quality musicians every night, the sunsets are amazing. Will definitely return to Babin Kuk and the Tirena at a future date.

The Tirena is one of 4 hotels owned by the Valamar group occupying a large area within the Babin Kuk peninsula around a 15-20 min bus ride from the Old Town. Although appearing the most dated from the outside out of the 4 (all are in close proximity), our room within the Tirena appeared recently refurbished and I was happy paying less to stay here (comparative to its sister hotels) knowing we would not be spending much time at the hotel itself.

With a number of bars, restaurants and shops all on site to the rear, and the Copacabana beach just 200/300 metres walk, it had everything we required when spending a day local to the hotel. The no.6 bus runs regularly to the Old Town (up until late at night) for 12 kn. single trip so was perfect for heading out for dinner / drinks. Being a young couple, we weren't interested in the evening entertainment the hotel offered.

Breakfast was fine and set us up for the day. It did tend to get busy at peak time with queue's forming for hot food, this was my only frustration, but staff were very attentive and friendly.

Room was clean, however the air con was never quite cool enough and wouldn’t adjust using the control unit which made for an uncomfortable first couple of nights whilst we adjusted to the warm evenings ('tis rather cooler in England!).

The pool we only used once on the last day before checking out, but seemed a good size with plenty of sun beds. With the beach being so close, this was the preferred option.

I can also recommend sailing trips to Mijit and Lopud, such stunning islands.

Overall, no complaints with the hotel and a perfect as a base to enjoy Dubrovnik from.

Room Tip: Sea view with a balcony... inland rooms wouldn't offer much.
