“Fantastic hotel with great staff and 5 star food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

i looked at some reviews of this hotel and if it is a glorified hostel as one reviewer said then I would stay in hostels all the time. I have stayed in worse 5 star hotels. The staff at this hotel were great from the receptionist to the house maids, the pool attendants, the maitre'd and the chefs. They were pleasant and helpful.

Yes it is a three star hotel and the rooms reflect that but still they were very clean spacious and well kept. The pool was excellent with fresh towels every day and plenty of sunbeds. The pool food was salads, burgers and sandwiches and they were very tasty

The best bit for me was the food. Yes it is buffet service but the variety and quality of the food was 5 star. II dont know many hotels that will cook whole sea bass!!.Fresh pizzas every night. Good pasta and excellent Croatian style meat and fish. The salads were different every night with lots of choice and very tasty seafood.

I would definitely visit this hotel again

Room Tip: If you can get a sea view the view is superb. Its over woods with a beautiful blue sea and magnifice...

My girlfriend and I stayed here recently and I was pleasantly surprised. This little location is perfect as it's only a 15 minute bus ride from the old town.

Good points:
Clean, tidy and a very nice location. The Hotel was well maintained and some nicely kept trees and green spaces. Separating other hotels. The important parts like the room were pleasant cleaned daily and we had a quiet spot facing the front. It had air con too which is essential in high summer.

The hotel pool was a hidden gem. Nicely set up with a cocktail bar overlooking it. Decent number of loungers and umbrellas. Cafe selling lunch type were very reasonable as well.

Food
We only had breakfast included but we took advantage of the BBQ by the pool on the Wednesday. This is well worth it. We paid for an evening meal and there was a lot of choice at the buffet. The wine was poor though and I wouldn't bother with that. Breakfast was reasonable. The usual fare of European style meat and cheese. Supplemented with bacon, eggs, sausages and mushrooms. Pancakes, toast, cereal and fruit was available too. It was of a reasonable standard. At peak times you could have to wait and queue for English breakfast items such as bacon but it was generally ok.

Drinks were cheap but draught beer was watered down so make sure you get bottles.

Negatives;
Some of the service was a little brisk. There were occasions when we felt like we were being an inconvenience. Toni the front desk manager was good at sorting any minor problems.

We were once intruded upon at 9am by someone who let himself into our room without knocking! He wanted to water the balcony plants but did not make that clear!

Lack of information about a parade of shops and little bars nearby. Make sure you explore the whole complex for extra bits.

Do not book anything at their hospitality desk. Poorly run. They canceled our day trip to Montenegro on the morning of the trip. You're better off booking trips yourself.

That said the negatives were generally small and it was a very pleasant place to stay and a great location with a beach nearby as well. I would recommend this as a good value for money place to stay.

We have just returned from spending a week at the Tirena and must say overall it's a very good hotel. The rooms are very comfortable with large bed, good sized bathroom, mini bar, hair dryer. My only niggle regarding the room is that the towels in the bathroom have seen better days and are very thin and small. We went at the end of June when it was very hot and the air conditioning was a bit feeble. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice however if you can manage to get a table outside its much quieter as the main resturant can get very noisy. The pool area was fantastic with plenty of sun beds to choose from and towels. The poolside bar also very good and reasonably priced for food and drink. All the staff were very helpful and a credit to the hotel. The bus service into Dubrovnik is every 15 minutes but buy your tickets from the shop or reception in hotel. At the back of the hotel is a pathway that takes you to the bus station. If you are feeling adventurous follow the signs towards the Hotel Neptune and you find the coastal pathway which a a fabulous walk with a plethora of bars and restaurants and takes you to Lapad. Our favourite was the cave bar and restaurant the setting is amazing overlooking the Agean sea. All in all a lovely week.

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Hotel Tirena Dubrovnik, and I wish it had been longer.

The hotel (although being 3 star) was lovely. It is well situated to get a bus into Dubrovnik which only takes 10/15 minutes (1 hour to walk if you're feeling energetic-which we did!). If you buy the tickets at the hotel, they cost 12 kuna (apparently its 15 kuna on the bus). I believe 1 ticket is one way.

The hotel pool is lovely. It was never busy that there were no beds available. You can get towels for the beds if you wish. What I loved was there was none of this 'reserving your bed at the crack of dawn'. We went to the pool for 12 noon and there were still plenty of beds. The pool and area around it are lovely and clean. I understand it is also used by other hotels. There is a beautiful beach which is rocky, but the sea is so clear and there are places to sit or place sun loungers.

Make sure while you're there to go to Dubrovnik and try the cable car to the top of the mountain and do the wall walk. They cost 100 Kuna (approx. £11) and the views are spectacular. At the top of the mountain, there is a museum dedicated to the Croatian war (entry 30 Kuna), and its well worth seeing. It might seem pricy, but its no different anywhere else.

The food in the hotel is buffet. Its fine, plenty of choice. I'd be surprised if you found you didnt like some of the food. They did cater for everything and everyone. What did make me laugh though was hazelnut ice-cream turned out to be some sort of punch on some occasions, and punch was hazelnut.

The staff were so friendly. There was always a smile when you approached them.

It was a shame our room didn't have a balcony, but hey ho. We didn't spend much time in the room, but just to chill before dinner would have been nice. But it didn't spoil the holiday at all.

The only one small complaint........people tended to be quite noisy going back to their rooms at night or early in the morning. A little consideration goes a long way. But once again, it wasn't bad that it spoilt our holiday.

Id also say the 'arcade' near the hotel is very limited. You have a few bars (do not order an Irish Coffee...it was made with squirty cream and was disgusting), and very small shops. If you can be bothered after dinner, go into Dubrovnik, much more to do and see.

On the whole, I'd recommend the hotel and area. It was a lovely holiday and I hope to go back for a last minute deal.....thank you!!!!!

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the outside dining area....it was fine, quite quiet really apart from seagulls.

Enjoyed a four night stay here last week. Staff were all in the right jobs! The dining room staff were excellent and were a pleasure to be around
The food was always plentiful looked good and the only fault I would have was the fruit wasn't always available. I do not blame the hotel for that I blaming the guests who were stealing it for later.
Would definitely recommend this hotel!

Tirena hotel is a very good and comfortable hotel 6 km from Dubrovnic.
The food is very good. Breakfast and dinner are buffets.
The location is outside Dubrovnic, but busnr 6 stops nearby the hotel and takes you to The old city.
You can buy a busticket in the bus for 15 Kuna, but in the souvenir shop in the hotel you can buy a bus ticket for only 12 kuna. The ticket is valid for one hour. And the bus is also driving at night till 02.30 hours.
Animation in the hotel is more for elderly people, but we always walk to Valamar Club next door.
At daylight we went to the swimming pool there and in the evening around 2100 hrs we visit the shows of Valamar Club.
The animation team there is really fantastic!
Of course you can also swim at Tirena, that is more quite than the Club.
All the facilities of the Club are free for the guests of Tirena.
The WIFI is very bad!! It is very slow or brake down every minute.
There are also a lot of cats around the hotel, even in the patio during our dinner!
I do not like that so much!
The staff is very friendly and helpfull.

Room Tip: The best rooms are those with sea view. Roomnrs. 311-312-313 or 411-412-413

We stayed here for 4 nights a part of a coach trip. The hotel is large and part of a complex built during the Communist era but has since been modernised. The reception area is large, light and airy. The staff are very friendly although on the day we checked out there was no-one to be seen for about 15 minutes!
Our room was on the same level as reception and was a good size. It overlooked the poll and had lovely views although it could be noisy at times. The beds were large and comfortable although the pillows were very soft. A request for a firmer pillow was ignored. There was plenty of wardrobe space and a free safe.
The bathroom was large with a nice shower in the bath. Towels were changed everyday although they were quite small. The bathroom door locked itself during our first night but fortunately the receptionist was able to fix it immediately. He promised to get it fixed by maintainance but that never happened.
Meals were eaten in the dining room downstairs from reception. It resembled a works canteen and was extremely noisy at busy times, it could really do with soundproofing. It's better if you can get a table outside as it's much quieter. The food was very good with freshly cooked eggs, meat etc at breakfast and dinner. There was always a very good choice.
The hotel was connected to the other hotels in the group by shops and bars. Although the hotel was outside Dubrovnik it was easy to get the number 6 bus which ran every 10 minutes. It's easier to get bus tickets from the hotel shop than pay on the bus.
The bar and terrace were very pleasant and prices weren't too high. There was entertainment every evening which was variable. We had a drinks reception on our last evening which went down well.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the same floor as reception away from the bar which can be very noisy
