“It's Adequate, But I Wouldn't Stay Here Again”
Reviewed 30 May 2009

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a group tour. The rooms are adequate and clean, as is the bathroom. The hotel restaurant serves OK food, but lots of tour groups stay here, so get to breakfast early! Otherwise, all the good food runs out and they're slow to refill/replace what's gone.

The staff at the front desk aren't friendly and seemed annoyed by my questions; however, the young lady at the concierge was very helpful and friendly.

Why wouldn't I stay here again? Lots of reasons.

1) The hotel is very far from the old historic center of Dubrovnik. It's a 15 minute bus ride (make sure to pre-purchase your tickets in the hotel's gift shop).

2) It's a long walk uphill to get to the nearest bus stop.

3) There is lots of construction in the adjacent property (new hotel) and consequently...

4) The hotel pool is out of service, so guests have to go to the pools at the other properties, which is about a 5 minute walk.

5) The beach is a pebble beach and it's a 10 minute (steep) downhill walk and it's not even on the Adriatic, it's some channel that leads to the Adriatic.

6) The hotel advertises a gym, but the facilities are at another adjacent hotel.

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Hotel Tirena with very mixed feelings. Trip Advisor recommendations are usually very good but this one was a little disappointing...but not really bad.

The hotel is a typical modern concrete hotel which doesn't look very appealing. There is no adjoining beach or garden for relaxation, just a rather depressing, partly occupied 'shopping centre' to the rear. I say shopping centre becuse this is what the signs say, but this is really a small, run down row of concrete boxes, half of which are empty, that provide bars, cafes, a supermart and one or two 'souvenir' shops.

It was expensive - £800 for b&b for two people for a week.

The good points are that it is in a very quiet setting amongst woodland, is about 3 miles from Dubrovnik Old town and is well served by the no.6 bus, which seems to run every 10-15 minutes.

The rooms were very clean and tidy, breakfast was as expected, lots of hot/cold choices, the staff very friendly and helpful...but it still lacked something that would have made it a little bit special.

It's not a bad hotel, but I get the feeling there are better ones for the price we paid.

This place was OK but surprisingly expensive for what it was. It cost us $350 for 2 nights though I guess you may be able to get it cheaper. I'm surprised in a way it gets so many good reviews. Fairly east to get to the old town using the No. 6 bus taking about 20 mins. Pretty good breakfast and clean enough but not much in the way of charm.

I am struggling to find anything positive to say about the Tirena Hotel. Aesthetically it is an assault on the eyes - nasty sprawling 1970s concrete buildings cobbled together in a wooded area that is almost appealing. But not quite. The concrete theme is carried over to the pool area, a place devoid of any charm or atmosphere, unless one counts the ear shattering noise of the construction work taking place next door to it as atmospheric.

The hotel offers a no frills service - no room service, no a la carte menu in the evening - only the option of a full buffet, no tea or coffee making facilities and depending on who assists you at reception, sometimes no smile. Entertainment comes by way of a guitarist or a duet armed with a bon tempi - be prepared to leave after a week with the chorus of 'I Just Called to Say I Love You' ringing in your ears. The rooms are basic and you can hear someone sneeze on the next floor.

It is not a cheap hotel and you certainly don't get value for money.

The hotel is spotless; comfortable and the staff very friendly. However the music bar is badly located under some guest rooms which meant that the music was hushed at 10pm and finished at 11pm.....much too soon for the irish who like to gather and chat / drink / sing until at least 1pm.....

We had a wonderful time and were very pleased with the Tirena.
The Hotel is situated in a wooded peninsula 3 Miles from the old town of Dubrovnik and beside a small shopping mall containing souvenir shops and Bars.
Its a low rise hotel (only 2 floors), comfortable and very clean. We had a buffet Breakfast and evening meal which had a range to suit everyone. All the staff were very welcoming, nothing was a problem. Each day we got the Number 6 Bus into the old town of Dubrovnik which was 10 Mins. away. (approx €1.20 each way) The Hotel pool is lovely and there is a short walk to the Copacabana or Cava "beach" , which being Croatia, consists of shingle and concrete so our advice would be to buy some rubber shoes at the local souvenir shop!

A small word of warning, They are building a new Hotel next door this summer so be prepared for some building noise during the day but the pace of building is slow and the disruption not too obtrusive.

This is a great hotel for the money. More like a 4 Star. Rooms are excellent and quiet - very clean. Food is very good with lots of variety although I thought there could have been a barbeque night and a Croatian night. Sevice is excellent. Entertainment at night is basic - guys playing guitars/keyboards. There is a shopping centre with some shops - mini market, cafes etc. Would recommend the 3 Islans boat trip @ 180 kunas (£20 or so). Great location for walks. Bus to Dubrovnik every 15 mins - buy return ticket from shop (16 kunas - under £2). Only fault - no security when asking for room key and anybody can wander about without question.
