“Worth the effort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2013

Just a five minute walk from Pile Gate (but a lot of steps!), heading away from the Old Town it was easy to find: there are some steps down on the left before reaching the tourist office, it is signed, and just keep to the shore. There are a lot of steps up to the summit of the outcrop where there is a bench with spectacular views of a small cove if you need to catch your breath. There are more steps up to the main entrance where there are great views back towards the Old Town at the top. You don't have to enter to get these views. Entrance is free if you have a ticket for the City Walls. Inside is an empty fortress but you can up another two levels again, from the very top the views over the old city walls and roofs is sensational. It was quite peaceful with only a handful of other visitors looking round.

“Worth the view”

The main reason to climb all the steps to the fort is for the view. The fort is easy to find from the Pile Gate and there are occasional sign along the path guiding you there. If you're doing the city wall afterwards then save your ticket.

“out of town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2013

This fort is situated just outside Dubrovnik old town, and offers spectacular views over the town and the sea. The entry fee of 30 kuna (about 4 euros) could have been avoided had we known that it is included in the fee for the city walls, which we had already done, but not to worry, it's only money. There is little of historic interest in the fort, and not much to see. But the value of this place is it's incredible panoramic views.

“Great view, slightly boring fortress”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2013

The main reason we visited Lovirjenac was for the views of the Old Town. BUT, as someone mentioned earlier, make sure you bring your ticket for the city walls or you get charged 30 kuna!! We didn't know how much it cost and didn't have our tickets, so we ended up not having enough cash. Luckily the guy working the desk understood that it was about 95 degrees out and no way were we walking back down to get some cash then back up again. He let us in for free, probably because they seem to get, like, 3 visitors a day.

The fortress itself was not that exciting. There were no signs explaining the history and it was stripped bare. The only things there were a few cannons and some kind of amphitheater at the top. Obviously they recognize their role as scenic viewpoint over the Old Town. Kind of cool to walk around it for a few minutes, but that's enough.

“King's Landing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2013

I counted 178 steps to climb up and everyone was worthwhile. Interesting old fortress with spectacular views back over the walled city, (Lovrijenac is outside the city). Many scenes from latest season of A Game of Thrones were filmed here and in the old city
