“Great trip, worth doing”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Take the boat from the main port. You have to get there about an hour before to get tickets. It goes at 8am some days and 9.15 others so you need to check. The trip takes about an hour and a half and you want to get off at the second stop on the island. There are places to hire bikes when you get off the boat, this is definitely worth doing. There were a few children's bikes and tag-alongs also available. We cycled around the salt lakes, stopping every so often for a swim when we got too hot. It is beautiful. There is even a little taxi boat that, for the equivalent of £1.50, takes you and your bike across the part of the lake you can't bike round. The boat comes back again at about 5pm - there are a few little cafes by the harbour where you can sit and have a drink and admire the views. A lovely break from the heat of the city itself.

“An epic swim!”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

What a lovely place to swim. If you are confident and careful, leave the beach and find a secluded spot. Leave your bathing suit at home. There is so much privacy! Gorgeous turquoise warm salt water lakes. For swimming enthusiasts, it is a dream come true! Great cycling as well and lovely views of hills, forests and lakes. I will definitely go back.

“Lovely stay on beautiful island”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We spent 3 nights in Polace on Mljet. We took the catamaran ferry from Dubrovnik, arriving at 11am. Polace is basically one street on the beach front with various restaurants, bakeries, mini markets, a cash machine , bars and accommodation premises. We stayed in the Apartment Radulj. It was an excellent choice with very friendly owners, extremely clean rooms and an amazing view from the private balcony. It also had effective air conditioning, facilities to prepare simple meals, a fridge and I was able to wash and hang up clothes to dry.
We bought a pass for the National Park which gave us access for the whole time we were there. It also included one return minibus trip to the lake and a return boat trip to the island with the monastery and restaurant. You can hire cycles, scooters or cars to explore but we were happy to walk. It is about a 45 minute walk to the main lake either by the paved road or via the old road which is a rougher path up the back of Polace. Both ways are accessible on foot.
During our stay we had 2 meals at the Calypso restaurant where the staff were very friendly and food good if not too cheap.
All in all we had a great stay on Mljet and would highly recommend it to nature lovers who like a relaxed and peaceful break.

“Wonderful bike path to two connecting salt water lakes.”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

While on a sail trip with Huck Finn, we stopped at Mijet Island for a mountain bike ride which was pretty challenging. We also swam in the two salt water lakes. Mjet is beautiful!

“Worth a visit! ”
Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

My boyfriend and I visited this island during a weeks stay in Dubrovnik. We caught the ferry over from Gruz harbour which was around 240 kunar for the both of us. The boat trip over was fine and took about 90 min. The only downside was the early start being an 8am ferry and having to get to the ticket office by 7am!!

We were concerned at first that there wouldn't be enough to do but we had a great day cycling around the island. The bikes cost 75 kunar each for the day. It takes quite a while to cycle around the lake and thankfully it is all flat (couple of uphill climbs to get there though)

The island itself is beautiful with clear turquoise water! We stopped and had a swim in the lake which was a beautiful temperature and a well received cool down after the cycling!

Beware as you do have to pay to get into the national park. I think it was around 80 kunar each. You also pay an extra amount to cross the lake by boat to a smaller island. We didn't bother with this.

Once we had cycled around we stopped for a late lunch at the restaurant by the ferry pick up point. Delicious food and reasonably priced. The ferry picks you back up at 16:55.

Overall, a lovely relaxing day out with crystal clear waters.
