“Dominican Monastery in Dubrovnik”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

I had the good fortune to teach for five weeks in the Dubrovnik International University, which is located on the top floor of the Dominican Monastery. So I got to see the monastery every time I went to the university, and also went inside and saw the great works of art there. I would recommend a visit to the monastery and to the university as a great way to see some works of art and also get a wonderful view from the windows of the university.

“Delightful”
Reviewed 19 August 2013 via mobile

Building is old and so vintage. There is also little museum which was very first pharmacy in Europe. Now, there are displayed stuff they used. In the middle there is the most beautiful garden I've ever seen. Only thing I can say is: What a vintage haven!

“Don't touch the ropes”
Reviewed 10 July 2013 via mobile

This is a wonderfully tranquil spot and the church and cloisters are well worth visiting. The only downside were the two women working there on the day of our visit. While looking carefully at one of the painted altarpieces one of our party (a 50 year old priest) accidentally brushed up against the rope and it started to swing a little. She first shouted at him and then, in front of another tour party, came up to him, wagged her finger menacingly and shouted "children do that"! We were very embarrassed. As we left the monastery there was another woman at the entry desk talking on the phone. She shouted after us that we were very rude because we hadn't said goodbye. The fact is that we didn't want to interrupt her even though it was highly unprofessional for her to be talking on the phone whilst working. All in all, these two women managed to undo all the peace and calm we had experienced during our visit. We felt we had paid 30 Kuna each just to be redressed!

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

You have to pay to visit the very small monastery which you enter on the long flight of stairs to the left of the chapel (which is reached through steep steps and is only open during service). The entry fee is cheap (5 kuna I think). the most interesting part is the little museum they have which houses some quite nice paintings and interesting reliquaries including skulls.

If you were only going to visit one of the monasteries in Dubrovnik I would recommend for this one.

“Not to be missed.”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

Very old canvasses and artefacs from the 14th and 15th centures are on display here. The museum houses an amazing display of votive jewellery. The most memorable painting is that of the Madonna with child.
