“Excellent Hotel”
Reviewed 21 March 2011

The Hilton Imperial is conveniently located very close to the Pile Gate on the edge of Dubrovnik old town. The hotel is literally 2 minutes walk from the gate. The tourist information office as well as the local bus stop are all located here. A bus from the airport to this location costs about 35 kn (Croatian Kuna). A taxi costs about 210 kn.

The hotel itself has 4 floors above ground with two lower levels containing the restaurant, gym and fitness area, sauna and swimming pool. At the front of the hotel the rooms have a balcony, these are the executive rooms and have views over the Adriatic. One of my friends had an executive room. I had a standard guest room.

The executive room and the standard room are both the same size but the executive room has large patio windows, access to the balcony plus a few additional perks which are worth paying the extra for.

The standard room I stayed in was well appointed with a large king sized bed. There was plenty of storage space. Opposite the bed there was a large storage cabinet that contained the fully stocked minibar, a safety desposit box and additional storage. There was a desk area with chair. Another seperate comfortable chair. Facilities in the room included an Iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The bathroom had a marble suite, clean white bathroom furniture, a bath with overhead shower.

The one outstanding feature of this hotel are the high levels of service throughout. All staff are courteous and helpful. During my stay I had a problem with the safety deposit box and after a call to reception someone came to my room within 2 minutes to help me. The staff at reception also gave excellent advice about places to eat and places to visit.

The hotel restaurant is called the Porat restaurant. I only visited the restaurant for breakfast. The restaurant is bright and airy with large glass windows The breakfast buffet was excellent with a large selection of hot and cold breakfast items. Breakfast was included in the price I paid for my room. I'd say that the prices for lunch or evening meal at the restaurant are quite high when compared to the prices in surrounding restaurants.

I would also say that prices in general for any sundry items within the hotel are quite high. A 750ml bottled water in the hotel costs 36 kn and across the road in the local shop it costs about 7 kn for a 2 litre bottle. Parking in the hotel car park is also quite pricey. Of course, you can expect to pay a little bit more for a premium service of having good quality food delivered to your room or through access to the minibar but there are also other options available in the vacinity if you want them. It isn't a case that you are captive audience here.

Whilst staying at the hotel I was lucky enough to have access to the Executive Lounge which is located on the 4th floor. The lounge serves complimentary drinks and snacks and has it's own balcony. There is comfortable seating and a large screen television. There is also wireless Internet access in the lounge. Marijana who worked in the lounge was friendly and welcoming.

This hotel is an excellent hotel and I really enjoyed staying here. I don't get to stay in hotels like this very often, it was a treat. I would definately recommend this hotel. If you can, pay a little extra for the executive room.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our Hotel.

I was pleased to read your kind comments about the friendliness of our Team members as well as the quality of our Breakfast Buffet. I have also taken note of your feedback with regards to our prices, but I am sure you do appreciate that prices of a 5 star Hotel are somehow different to those in the supermarket but can assure you, that our prices are in line with other 5 Star Hotels in Dubrovnik.

I am delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and would appreciate the opportunity welcoming you back to the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik in the nearest future.

With kind regards

Andreas Jersabeck,

What an excellent hotel with simply the best service. My partner and I visited for a 4 day trip. We were lucky with the weather so managed plenty of sightseeing. The hotel was excellent and having the use of the Executive Liunge was an added bonus. Miss Paulo was like family at the end of the trip. So helpfuland most kind. Rooms were super comfortable and the breakfast one of the best I have had anywhere in the Hilton chain with attentive service. The only small criticism was the dinner. The quality was not great, the service was poor and for what it was I thought compared with what could be had outside it was expensive.

Stayed for 3 nights during March and were upgraded to the executive suite which was amazing, a large room with a balcony overlooking the Adriatic. The staff were absolutely amazing and were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great with many options. The only Slight disappointment of the hotel was only news channels available in the rooms in English but a minor blip in what is otherwise the perfect place to stay. Old town was very quiet with little options for good food. If going to Dubrovnik this is a must place to stay!

Just a great 4 day stay in a lovely city. The Hilton has it all, but the key point for us was the staff. All the staff were excellent and could not do enough to make our stay perfect.
One small note to the management. When you close your executive lounge for the winter, put it on the web site so people know what to expect.
Otherwise, just perfect!

Beautiful hotel right next to the gate to the old town. We stayed her in February for my birthday. We couldn't fault the customer service here. Attention to detail from friendly staff. They even surprised me with a cake and sparkler and singers who where playing in the restaurant that night came over to sing happy birthday. Breakfast was lovely, such a variety of food, however evening meals and wine very expensive.
Good public bus service. Old Town is lovely. (If you do the walk all the way around it, it will take about two hours....well it took us two hours, and some caution required if you are scared of heights!!)

The Hilton brand has become somewhat debased by the many bland, anonymous three (pretending to be four) star mediocrities springing up in unattractive business parks everywhere. The brand would be greatly enhanced if all Hiltons were like this one. Sadly, they are not.

The Hilton Imperial is unquestionably the best choice for visitors to Dubrovnik. The first consideration is, as they say, location, location, location and the hotel is ideally placed just outside the main gate of the old town. Within a few yards of the hotel are several reasonably-priced restaurants, two small grocery stores, a baker, a post office and the tourist information office as well as the down-town terminus of the local bus routes.

The hotel itself is a rebuilt ‘Grand Hotel’ dating from 1897 that has been successfully modernised whilst retaining much of the charm of that period. There is one downside to this; the structure dates from a time long before disability access was a consideration and there is a long flight of stairs from the road up to the front door, then multiple steps to enter the hotel’s reception area, more steps to get into the hotel proper and yet more steps to get to the lifts – and no ramps. The staff all are extremely professional in making their guests feel welcome and are to be commended.

We were upgraded (presumably in recognition of my Diamond Hhonors status) to a top-floor suite with views over the old town and the Adriatic beyond, with a balcony from which to enjoy the view. The suite was pleasantly furnished in a modernish style in which only the clunky old CRT televisions (two of them) seemed out-of-place. Ethernet broadband was a less-than-blazing 1.2 Mb down and 5 Mb up. Two Ethernet broadband offerings are available in-room; gold & diamond Hhonors members benefit from complimentary access to the higher package; a somewhat complicated offering that includes downloadable daily newspapers from many countries and the ability to print documents on a printer in the business centre. Wi-Fi is restricted to the hotel’s bar and was unreliable.

The restaurant (but not its kitchen) was closed for dinner mid-week off-season and a small dining area was set up in the bar. The limitations of this arrangement are exposed when a large and inevitably somewhat noisy group settles in the bar. The food was simply but very well prepared and the € 35.00 half-board option that is offered to guests for a three-course dinner is to be recommended. As with all restaurants in Dubrovnik fish and sea foods predominate; a cuisine that is probably more to the taste of Dubrovnik’s very many white-and-black cats than mine. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent. It was a slight disappointment that the Executive Lounge was closed during the off-season, with vouchers being issued for drinks at the bar instead.

Stayed in the detached complex from main hotel building. Good service, nice spacious room. Very good location close to the main tourist area. Comfortable place to stay to enjoy this romantic city. Very easy to get to from the bus station by way of public transit.
