We stayed at the Hilton for 6 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. The room was great with a balcony that overlooked the ocean and the old city. We also had the use of the Executive Lounge which we took full advantage of. The 'cold' breakfast was more than plenty and every evening we sat on the 4th floor balcony and enjoyed breath-taking views, perfect weather, and the delicious wine/drinks with hot/cold appetizers. I certainly will come back again.

To celebrate a relatively significant wedding anniversary we booked a 3 night break at the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, our first of hopefully many visits to both Dubrovnik and the hotel. We had a great time and can really recommend the hotel provided you go with no illusions as to what the hotel is not (namely a seaside resort).
The Hilton is a substantially rebuilt version of Dubrovnik’s oldest hotel, the 1897 Grand Imperial and another historic hotel. The rebuilding attempted to retain much the external character of the original landmark hotel but added an extra floor and sought to provide an interior in line with current international hotel standards albeit constrained by the confines of a restricted and hilly plot. The resulting Hilton Imperial is therefore is somewhat of a compromise, I think it does retain the external appearance of an Italianate Palazzo while inside it is entirely corporate Hilton, but floors are on varying levels and lifts (elevators) do not all serve all floors. (For example it is necessary to use three separate lift systems to get from Reception to the 2nd 3rd or 4th Floors if you wish to avoid any stairs – although the number of lift transfers is reduced to 2 if you could manage 2 steps and to just 1 with 8 steps up).
The restaurant whose terrace is the only part of the hotel (except for balconies) where it is possible to sit in the open air is on the lower Ground Floor along with the pool (indoor but with a glass roof) and the Gym. The Bar is above the restaurant on the Ground Floor, while the Executive Lounge is on the 4th Floor with a small balcony area (3 tables each for 2 people and with nearly the best views in the hotel).
If you are looking to stay close to the heart of the City (the Old Town) and do not require to be actually on a beach, the location is THE best. The hotel is in a commanding position a few steps (stairs!) away from the Pile Gate – the main entrance to the old town and also a terminus for many of the local buses. Rooms on the South and West sides of the Hotel have excellent views over the Old Town and out to sea. There are a number of minimarkets, shops and restaurants nearby and while it is above a major road, the road only carries local traffic (so few heavy lorries – although buses and motorcycles can be noisy).
There are four main room categories, needless to say at increasing cost:
• Standard Rooms which are on the North and East sides of the hotel, have no view and no balconies.
• Standard Plus Rooms, which are on the South and West sides with views and, usually, small balconies.
• Executive Rooms, on the 1st and 4th Floors and although larger than standard rooms do not normally have views or balconies.
• Executive Plus Rooms, usually on the 4th Floor with excellent views and have balconies, some of these balconies are large with room for sun loungers, although I believe there are only 4 such rooms.
There is also an annex across the courtyard from reception.
Getting to the Hilton from the airport is very easy – on arrival we used and would recommend the Airport Shuttle (on the left as you exit the terminal) at 35KN (c.€5) which meets most flights and takes just over 20 mins. for the 17 KM journey direct to the Pile Gate and from where flights of steps take you
up to the Hilton or it is a short walk round via the car ramp. Taxis cost about 240KN for the same journey and because the return airport shuttle doesn’t leave from Pile Gate are the preferred method to return to the airport. The Cruise ship terminal is within the town in Grutz bay.
Public buses from the Pile Gate serve many parts of the Town, including the Lapad and Babin Kuk peninsulas with their beach resort hotels, and also the cruise ship terminal and the main bus station. Fares are 10 KN on the bus, 8 KN if bought in advance at a kiosk or reception, kiosks also sell a 24 hour unlimited journey ticket for 25KN which also allows travel on the hop on / hop off city tour with multilingual commentary or multi-trip tickets, all tickets have to be validated in a machine next to the bus driver on entry. The service buses run from early to well after midnight with frequencies varying by route from hourly to every 10 minutes and are well used by both locals and tourists. Bus timetables with English translations are readily available and also displayed at the bus stops. English appears to be widely spoken by all who come into contact with tourists (including the local bus drivers).
We booked/upgraded to an Executive Room (which although advised did not have a sea view did have a small balcony – in fact immediately above reception). The room was large, modern, and clean and everything worked (bath with shower over). Wifi and broadband available in room.
Executive Lounge was great and provided some food and drinks from 7am to 11pm. This was the only food we ate in the hotel (in fact some days it was all the food we required). Although we had paid a breakfast inclusive rate – which would have provided for the hot breakfast in the downstairs restaurant, we choose instead just to have the continental breakfast in the Executive Lounge – particularly nice to breakfast on the terrace and watch the Town below come to life. In the evening as well as a number of savoury and sweet options, the lounge served a hot appetiser (chicken in a cream sauce with broccoli one night, lasagne another). We thought the food was of an excellent quality, with the patisseries particularly good, and much better than in other HH Exec. Lounges we have used. The hostesses (Paula and Marjana respectively in mornings and evenings) were really friendly and very attentive hosts, even perhaps a little too generous with the premium drinks! We felt the extra cost of the Executive Room was good value because of the Lounge.
The staff everywhere in the hotel were really friendly and very helpful. For example one evening we asked the Concierge/Receptionist (he seemed to be do both jobs) about how to catch the service bus to Cavtat for which he gave very clear instructions – the next evening on returning to the hotel we were greeted by him asking how we had enjoyed our day in Cavtat entirely unprompted (in fact as the day was hot, sunny, and windless we had decided to go by boat from the Old Town, but he wasn’t to know that).
In summary, we had a great and very relaxing short break and recommend the hotel as an ideal and comfortable base to explore the enchanting City of Dubrovnik and its environs.

I will start by saying I don't understand the bad reviews. I have stayed in Four Seasons and Ritz-Carltons as well as high-quality boutique hotels, and I just did not see the negative things mentioned by some other reviewers. This hotel has a wonderful location just outside the main gate to the walled old city, and the rooms are quite comfortable with nice appointments (although not totally luxurious). The staff was helpful, and the breakfast was very good. We had some rain while in Dubrovnik, and I spent some needed down time on the nice covered balcony/bar area reading a book. Our rate was on the expensive side, but all in all I would say it was worth it.

My wife and I spent a great week in Dubrovnik staying at the Hilton which is just outside the Pile Gate and excellent for seeing the city ,both in the day and at night. It is a class hotel with a rather old fashioned charm and is unaffected by the frantic activity which goes on by the Pile Gate, due mainly to the coach loads of tourists arriving from the cruise ships. The hotel is quite expensive (but so is Dubrovnik) therefore we ate most of our evening meals in the city but you can get bar meals and eat them in a very relaxed environment in the lounge. The hotel has a indoor pool and beauty salon but no outside lounging areas - which is a shame as the sun shines a lot in Dubrovnik.
Overall we rate it highly particularly if sunbathing is not a priority.

Great location next door to the Old Town. Restaurant was delicious for dinner with fresh food and gourmet dishes. Room was Ok, nothing special. Very much a city hotel with no beach or outdoor areas to relax.

I completely agree with the two previous reviewers. I booked this hotel based on the glowing reviews on this site and the recommendation in the Rough Guide saying that it had been 'sympathetically restored'.

If they think that sticking a supermarket style revolving door on the side and an aluminium and glass conservatory (very 80s) to the front is sympathetic, I don't feel I can trust their or this site's judgment any more.

I simply cannot rate this any higher than okay/average because of it's price and star rating. The service and cleanliness of the property should be a given for the £300 that we paid. There was nothing that exceeded in any way. Yes, the staff were friendly, our bed was huge, the room was spotless, but surely, that's to be expected?

I don't usually stay in Hiltons but only went for it based on reviews as mentioned and the location which was great following a night out in Dubrovnik.

We did eat in the restaurant as part of our one night package and have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the food - it was excellent.

So to sum up if you like salmon pink walls/80s decor, piped pan pipes, Hilton branding everywhere, meeting rooms at every turn and £8 for a glass of wine, then this is the place for you...

As already mentioned this has an excellent location just outside the Pile Gate. The aspect of it is fantastic but there was just certain things just 'not right'.

I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member and was therefore upgraded to a room with a fantastic sea/city view. waking up in it and looking out onto the sea was just spectacular, and the terrace was enormous.

The Executive Lounge was excellent also, and unlike some was open all day. A young lady called Marjana was particularly helpful and charming.

However, what REALLY let it down was the bar closing at midnight. Now I am not sure whether Croatian law does not allow bars to be open beyong 12, maybe they do, but to switch on the main lights as if they are clearing a nightclub at closing time was galling and rather patronising. I was also informed by another guest who I was speaking to that it was nigh on impossible to book a spa treatment.

Overall, a potentially excellent hotel, spoilt by small irriations. But at £250 per night they should not be present.
