Hotel Zagreb is located in an old (but redecorated) villa near a small beach in Dubrovnik. We had room 17 (first floor, with balcony) and had a great stay in this hotel. The staff is friendly, the room spacious and clean (nice to have airco) and breakfast is good. The best part is however the location. It is near to the beach (buy some beachshoes, pepplesbeach) and restaurants en almost next to the busstop to dubrovnik -old town.
In Dubrovnik: eat icecream!! (the best one: located right on the main street after entering the town (past the citywalls) righthandsight. Diner: in the old town they love pizza's and other touriststuff. The restaurant at the end of the bay near the hotel is much better!

The Hotel Zagreb was everything we expected it to be. A small, friendly hotel in the traditional style in a superb location. It is situated in a traffic free zone, within 2 mins of the bus stop where buses will take you every 15m to Dubrovnik Old Town. The Zagreb is at the top of a boulevard lined with restaurants and small souvenir shops.Walking to the Hotel Kompas at the other end presents you with a lovely view of the bay. Also the food here is good with live music as an added bonus.
The food at the Zagreb is average. We ate there once during our stay and although the food was tasty it was nothing special. It is better to eat out in the other restaurants around and about. Can recommend the Yacht Club, the Levanat and the Kompas Hotel.
Breakfast was between 6.30 and 10.00 which is a good stretch and enabled you to eat breakfast before going on an early morning trip.
The breakfast was ok but where in the world knows how to make tea like we do!! The tea and coffee were awful! However, it was nice to sit out on the terrace every morning to eat our breakfast.
The room was quite small but we managed ok. Aircon was good to have in the room but it would have been nice to have tea making facilities.
Overall, the friendly atmosphere and good location won the day and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

A £22 taxi drive from the airport, situated on the Lapad peninsula which is the playground of the locals, this small hotel is ideally located. The local shingle beach is just 1/4 mile down a slight inclined promenade which is lined with cafes and restaurants used by locals and tourists.

The hotel is cool and comfortable with a small restaurant and terrace. There is a small room with 2 computers enabling internet access. There are few other facilities.

My Room 6 on ground floor was furnished with a double bed, small TV (CNN only in English), bedside table, 1 chair and desk Ensuite shower, WC and basin. Entrance vestibule with two large fitted wardrobes. Adequate for me as a solo traveler but probably too small for a couple. Room 6 within earshot of reception which could get a little noisy with guests, arriving/departing and locals popping in for a chat with the staff.

Continental breakfast was adequate but never changed over 9 days I was there.

Other Britsh guests on full board reported poor quality evening meals.

Tourist information, cash machine and car hire outside hotel, 2 min walk to bus stop for Old town (Bus nos 6 and 6A, 10 mins journey time, £1 each way).

I enjoyed the three island boat trip on 'Kate' captained by Markos (10:00 to 18:00, 3 islands, £22).

I was also a regular visitor to Lokrum, local wooded island, 10 mins by boat from harbour in old town.

Recommended as a romatic break

I booked the Zagreb based on the reviews here, but to be honest, my husband and I had problems with the place. First of all, they had no record of our reservation. Thankfully I printed out my correspondance with the hotel confirming that I had booked a room and thankfully they had a room open. Secondly, our room was really, really tiny, barely fitting the bed and to be honest it felt a bit like a Russian sanitarium. The bed was beyond soft in a one too many people have slept here kind of way. There was a little too much linoleum and would it kill to put something on the walls, even some cheap motel art? The thing that pushed it over the edge was the giant splatter of what looked like blood on the wall of our room. Okay, I'm sure it was just soda or something, but why wouldn't the housekeeper clean it off? It's not like it wasn't immediately noticeable. We also had a lot of bags and there was no bellman and no help from anyone even though it's a four story hotel without an elevator!!!!! After three nights we moved to the Kompass for a rate that was 50 Euros cheaper and felt much more comfortable. I wasn't expecting the Four Seasons, but they could do a little better.
