“For one night only...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2009

Nice appearance from the outside but the interior is a bit dated. Functional staff lacking warmth or friendliness. The restaurant attached to the hotel is a franchise and not an integral part of the hotel - food good in the restaurant but service poor. Good location on Lapad Penninsula but 10 minutes from old town by taxi. On pedestrian street about 5 minute walk from beach past several bars and restaurants - quite pleasant area. Only stayed one night and would not choose this hotel for a base for an extended period to explore Dubrovnik. Be warned the breakfast buffet was extremely poor lacking in both quantity and variety. A request for coffee was refused with no explanation offered. IMPORTANT: There is no lift in this three/four storey hotel so it is unsuitable for travellers with mobility difficulties.

Hotel staff, in particular a female receptionist were rude and unhelpful. Chamber staff were very noisy early in the morning. Room was very noisy, largely due to the open corridors leading to the wide stairwell above reception. Breakfast was absolutely terrible; poor choice (e.g. no fresh pastries) & what there was was very poor in quality (coffee was disgusting); service was also bad. Despite having breakfast included in the price, we went down the road instead for our second morning.

Redeeming features are its convenient location (very near bus stop to old town, on promenade with bars & restaurants, near supermarket), free parking, OK-sized rooms & well maintained; but none if this is enough IMO to justify a <€100/night tariff. This would be good value @ >=€50/night, no more.

From the street the hotel looks beautiful but rooms are bit dark and old. There is great garden around the hotel and only short distance to the shore. Lapad area is very nice and you can find many nice restaurants nearby.

Biggest problem in the hotel was that cleaning ladies started talking on the hall very early. It was almost impossible to sleep after 7 am.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights. The room was fine but we kept having to ask for more towels (they only gave us one) and the staff was not as friendly as they could have been (and were less helpful than people at other hotels we used). The breakfast was TERRIBLE and is to be avoided at all costs. The building itself was pretty and convenient to local restaurants, etc. It was a little noisy the first night but quiet on the second. It is a long walk (40 minutes) into Old Town or a pretty simple bus ride.

My husband and I spent our last night in Dubrovnik at the Hotel Zagreb for a treat as it looked so lovely from the outside. However, we were quite disappointed as the staff were really quite rude - not at all welcoming, and the breakfast was rubbish. The room was quite basic and really did not reflect the quality of the appearance of the building. I really feel that it was not worth 90E a night.

Hotel Zagreb is nicely located in Lapad, a 10 minute bus ride from the Old City. A 5 minute walk past many restaurants puts you on a rock beach.
The hotel has been recently redone, and the room decor shows this. Our room was of decent size by European standards. However, the shower was tiny. It was about 2 feet by 2 feet. I'm not sure how an average sized man would be able to shower in it.
The room had a safe, but ours was broken. There was a TV, but we didn't use it, so I'm unsure if cable or satellite are available. There was an air conditioner which worked well. The room key card had to be inserted in a little slot by the door for the air conditioner and the electricity to work. The windows had no screens but did have slatted shutters. Some street noise did come in through the windows.
The front desk staff was nice. We only ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant, but it was well stocked with many choices including hard-boiled and scrambled eggs, yogurt, bread, cheese, cereal and fruit.
Two computers with internet access were available in the lobby for 15KN for 30 minutes.
The hotel does not have an elevator.

Building is great (old venitian style villa), in the green scenery of Lapad quarter, and if you follow the pedestrians alley in front of the hotel, you'll find the beach.
Room was nice, with space, clean.
Breakfast was good, on the terrace.
Only drawback: the carpark is small and quickly full. But at least you can park in the area (which is absolutely not possible in Dubrovnik's historical center).
