The Ifka is a modern hotel on the Lapad Peninsula, approximately 10 minutes by bus from Dubrovnik Old Town. It fronts onto a busy road and has no grounds/gardens apart from a small terrace with tables and chairs facing the road. There is some seating in the entrance lounge/foyer, which also has a bar, but there is no residents' lounge or other public accommodation.

We found our twin room to be very clean and of a reasonable size, with ensuite wc and shower (no bathtub). Facilities included multi-channel television, air-con, telephone and room safe (key obtainable from reception) but no fridge/mini-bar or welcome tray. Beds were comfortable, although perhaps on the soft side for some. There was a small balcony with chairs for enjoying the balmy evenings.

Staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke good English; but the hotel boasted only one laptop in the 'computer corner' and usage rates were high.

The restaurant was clean and light, although rather lacking in atmosphere. The buffet breakfast was reasonable for a three-star hotel: sausage, scrambled or fried eggs (but no boiled ones!), fried ham and very streaky bacon. Cold offerings included cold meats and cheese, cereals, drinking yoghurts, bread rolls/croissants/pain au chocolat and fresh fruit. There was a choice of rather weak fruit juices, fruit teas and coffee.

The restaurant also offered daily and a la carte dinner menus at reasonable cost when compared with the indifferent eating to be found in the tourist traps of the Old Town. A number of good, reasonably-priced restaurants could also be found within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Although the frequent bus service (about 5 minutes walk to the bus stops) was convenient, the busy road was potentially very dangerous for children or the elderly; there was no pedestrian pavement for part of the way in either direction and parked cars forced walkers out into the traffic lane. So the weakenss of the Ifka for non-motorists is its location. At certain times of the day buses were very crowded and seating was at a premium!

Although we had no criticism of the hotel apart from location, it is probable that similarly priced accommodation could be found in more attractive locations - such as overlooking the Lapad beaches.

Have just thrown up in the airplane home - hoping they wouldn't throw me off. Didn't get any sleep due to running to the loo all night. Husband was the same because we ate the same thing at dinner in this place. I explained to the receptionist on checking out that I didn't wish to pay for dinner as it had made us so ill - "no-one else complained..." He was extremely unsympathetic and quite nasty really - attitude as if I was making it up. The least someone can do is show a bit of sympathy instead of trying to protect their employer. Am now home and in bed trying to get well enough for work tomorrow. Whatever you do, don't eat here - the buffet is out for hours in the heat and we stupidly ate it.

Also have a v sore back as the beds are uncomfortable.

I enjoyed my time at Ivka Hotel. Spotless and quiet. The room was big, the bathroom was also big. The room had aircondition and safe. The breakfast was good. The hotel is a short walk from the beach and supermarket. Its pretty far away from the old town, I dont recommand taking the bus to get there if you are more than 3 persons because it gets really full. its better to pay 20 more kunas to take a taxi. When it comes to resturants i recommand Konoba Pizzeria Blidinje.(not actually a pizzeria, its an ordinary resturant wich also sells pizza.) Its a max 10min walk from the hotel. To get there from the hotel enterance take to the right on the road and walk till you get to the sea. Then follow the road straigh ahead. Its a beautiful and quiet place with great view over the harbor. (if you sit on the roof). I had a great holiday in Dubrovnik.

True the hotel is quite a way from the old town, but frequent and cheap buses (every 10 minutes) run from the top of the road of the hotel. Make sure you take bus number 6 (same road as the hotel) down to the old town and then bus 4 back - taking bus 6 goes a different direction on return! (Cost 10Kr per person per trip).

The hotel was spotless - everything is almost brand new and all fittings are german (windows, lift, bathroom). Its probably the cleanest hotel I've stayed in and compares to many 4* and above.

The only negative thing was the breakfast - watered down (I kid you not!) 'fruit juices' and pretty dire attempts at ham and cheese. Much better to avoid at all costs and head to the fabulous 'Dubravka' restaurant right next to the entrance to the old city and get breakfast there.

One thing to remember - when arriving in Dubrovik and taking the airport bus, it drops you in the old town. However, it doesn't pick you up from the same place. The hotel was very vague as to where it ran from, even tourist information said 'the main bus station'. You have three choices - the main bus station, a couple of stops on the same route as the number 6 and also one stop which is just outside the old town, up the hill. If you want to take the bus back to the airport and dont want to go all the way to the main bus station, force the information out of tourist information as to the nearest stop, otherwise they won't tell you!

Bus stop is very close. Room is very big. Problem with no safe in room when they say there was one.. :^( Breakfast is typical for the area. The bread is very good. Old town is bus ride away but adds to the adventure. Came home late after movie and bus dropped us right at the front door! It's very clean and plain but works well for the price!

Hotel basic but clean.
Buffet OK but not well presented. Although hotel states it caters for vegetarians there was no veggie option on 2 evenings during my 7 night stay. I approached the head waiter who arranged for a dish of fried breaded cheese.
Breakfast buffet was poor with fried eggs left laying on a warmer until they were cold.
My main complaint was on the Saturday evening when a wedding reception was held at the hotel. The party arrived about 9pm and took over the bar area leaving no room for the residents to enjoy a coffee or drink. The party were noisy and went to the conference area at around 10pm. After that noise continued until around 4am the following morning. The hotel receptionist said he could do nothing about the loud music and noise which kept residents awake.
My advice to anyone wanting to stay at this hotel would be to check that a wedding party is not being held there during their proposed visit.

Is not exactly near the Bus and the map we were given was wrong so we found it awkward getting there. Its also halfway between beach and Old town so really in no mans land.

Excellent Hotel, most modern I stayed in while in Croatia, and the only one with a lift. Also had lovely reception and balcony.

I also suspect if you are driving that you can park your car on site but I recommend you ask!!!

I however would not book again puely on location. Good Hotel though
