My Husband and I recently stayed at the Rixos for 5 days to celebrate my 40th birthday. Prior to arrival I had emailed the hotel to let them know I would be celebrating my birthday during our stay and would appreciate being allocated a lovely room. They responded quickly to my email and described the room we had been allocated. Great service before we even got there!

We arrived at the hotel around midday and thought we'd probably have to wait a couple of hours before we could check in, but the room was ready and we were down by the pool by 12.30pm!

We stayed in a superior room. The room was lovely, if a little small. It had a super king bed, flat screen tv, desk/mirror and a small table and comfy chair. The view from the balcony is spectacular. There are a couple of sun loungers on the balcony and the sun shines on it until mid afternoon. Disappointingly the lights on the balconies don't work. There is a light switch so when the light didn't come on we thought it was broken, however when we reported it we were told that none of the balconies were allowed to have their lights on. I don't know why.

The bathroom is a little odd in that the wall is made of clear glass. It didn't bother us, and it does have a blind if you want to have more privacy.

The pool area is lovely, Lots of sun loungers, a beautiful clean pool and waitresses on roller boots!! There is also a set of steps that takes you down in to the sea.

The price of food and drink is expensive (£5 for a large beer) but that's generally what to expect when eating/drinking in a hotel.

When we went back to our room after the first day a bottle of sparkling wine in an ice bucket had been left for us along with a fruit platter. I presume this was for my birthday and was a really lovely touch. A couple of nights later we came back in and had been left a chocolate mousse cake and strawberry macaroons!

The hotel is allegedly a 10 minute walk away from the old town. There is no way you can do it in 10 minutes!! It's 20 mins at least....30 mins if slowly strolling. As other reviewers have said there is a regular bus that goes past the hotel which costs approx £1.50.

All of the people we met in Dubrovnik (including the hotel staff) were lovely, polite and genuinely friendly. It's a stunning place and I couldn't have imagined a better hotel to stay in.

After our last visit to Croatia 2 years ago, we promised ourselves that we would come back to this fabulous country. This year we did. Following on from the Istrian peninsula, this time we came further south to Dubrovnik and our choice of hotel was the Rixos Libertas.

The hotel has a stunning location, tiered into the hillside, overlooking the Adriatic. It is about a 20 minute downhill walk into the old town and if you don’t fancy the walk back there always is a No 4 bus that drops you off at the top of the road. It costs 15 Kuna for the journey or 12 Kuna if, as most people do, you buy your ticket in advance from one of the many kiosks. We actually preferred the walk.

The Rixos is a very modern hotel, with a casino attached. The best way of trying to describe it, is that it is an ‘upside down’ hotel. By that I mean that the lobby is almost at the top and you go down to the guest rooms. However, we soon got used to it. Rooms are on floors 1-9, the pool on 0, restaurants on 10, then the lobby, with 2 further floors higher.

The Rixos is one of those hotels where a sea view is essential. The view is sensational overlooking the bay. Facilities-wise, the hotel has a small outdoor pool (half width) and a larger indoor pool. Thankfully, the sun beds are towel-controlled by the hotel staff and they do not permit the dawn dashers reserving the beds for the day. Towels are issued as you enter the pool area. So, if you’re struggling to squeeze those beach towels into your luggage, just leave them out. Set parasols are large and cover 4 sun beds. There are also 4-poster doubles with nets, although these tend to go very quickly. There are many beds without shade, but there always seemed to be beds available, even later in the day.

There is a very small pebble and rock ‘beach’ at the side of the hotel, but nothing to write home about. Apart from that, there is nothing much near to the hotel, other than a small supermarket for getting drinks etc, although the hotel doesn’t like you doing this. There is also a small pastry shop at the top of the road ‘Pekarnica Klas’. This is open very early to very late and provides delicious food – perfect for that lunch on your balcony overlooking to the sea.

Mozaik, the main hotel restaurant is buffet style and has a changing mix of menus, with Italian nights, Mexican nights etc. It is quite small compared to other hotels but the food is excellent. The staff are also very good. All superior rooms overlook the sea and are a decent size with towels changed every day. The bathrooms will not be to everyone’s taste. They have glass into the bedroom and to the side of the room. While there is a semi-opaque blind to the bathroom, there is none to the side and the mirrors on the side of the wall offer those in room an alternative to watching television! While it will not be a problem to most couples, it could however be a major problem for those people taking a family room. There is no door to the bathroom, although the toilet has a glass door. You also cannot get a sink of water. Washing, shaving etc has to be done with running water. It’s not a problem, but wastes an awful lot of water. Talking of waste, they also do not have key cards operating the lights, so they could be left on all day. There is a traditional shower is over the bath, plus one in the ceiling, which is slightly unusual.

The Rixos wasn’t perfect by any means. We had broken loungers on the patio, lights not working etc, but this did not distract from an enjoyable stay. The hotel did advertise evening entertainment but this was totally non-existent. There was therefore nothing to keep people in the hotel after dinner.

Dubrovnik itself is lovely, but you need to choose your times to visit. It is a cruise liner destination and you need to check the Internet before you go, to see when the ships are in. The old city is tiny and on the days when 3 cruise liners arrive at the same time, you could have an extra 10,000 people trying to do exactly what you are! A walk around the walls costs 100 Kuna (about £10) and the cable car is the same price. Both are worth doing, although there is nothing really at the top of the mountain, other than a restaurant, unless you fancy quad biking.

All in all, a good holiday and one we can recommend.

Room Tip: A sea view is absolutely essential here. Choose a superior room, as the view is the guaranteed. Floo...

having just spent 10 days at the Rixos Libertas in Dubrovnik, we can only conclude that this is the best hotel for sun & sea relatively close to the old town. The hotel has a releatively "east block" look from the entrance side with a lot of concrete but once you enter the hotel it's really modern and spacious with service and staff outstanding.
Good pool area with direct access to crystal clear water, pool bar & restaurant with everything you can use or want and an attentive staff serving you through the hours in the sun.
Varied and good breakfast, modern décor rooms - all with their own outside terrace and a very nice evening bar with view out over the Adriatic. Did not try the dinner restaurant since the old town (2.3km away) was more tempting for dinner.
On returning to Dubrovnik, we will most definitely stay at the Rixos again.

Family holiday for 5. The Rixos is handily placed for the airport - about 30 minutes or so. Beautiful hotel with lovely staff. The Hotel is very modern with wi-fi everywhere. A dedicated guest service desk to help book everything at reception was really helpful and the staff there were excellent. We stayed half board and the variety and quality of food was really very good considering the scale of catering needed. We didn't sample the a la carte restaurant but braved the casino which was fun. The swimming pool was really nice and sun beds plentiful and comfortable, but the absence of any beach was a little frustrating - the diving platform ok for decent swimmers but not for little ones. Please note that there are no drinks included at dinner so even water has to be signed for which can be pricey - would suggest that the hotel offers at least complimentary water with evening meals. No local restaurants that I saw so there is a trek for any variety at lunch time. 5 minute taxi drive to either the old town of Dubrovnik - lovely - or the more modern down town. Trips are easily arranged and I compliment the manager on having an excellent staff.
Thats all - I would return here again.

I stayed at this hotel for 1 week at the beginning of July, bed and breakfast. The staff really can't do enough for you from the moment you step inside.
We stayed in the Executive Double Room which was so lovely, cannot complain at all.
The breakfast was always brilliant with lots of choice and the usual fresh food being made to order - omelettes were a big hit!
The staff around the pool area are very attentive, with waitresses roller blading around the sunbeds taking drink and food orders!
The spa was so nice! We didn't have any treatments but we did use the pools, saunas etc. The hot pool was even hotter than a normal bath!
The location was fab - it was approx. a 15 minute walk to the Old Town, but with views the whole way! Nice walk of an evening and if you're in the Old Town for dinner, it's a good walk back to walk off that dinner! The location is also good because it's not on a main road like many of the other hotels so it's really peaceful.
The hotel is set in the cliff face so the lobby is on the ground level which once inside the hotel is actually level 11. I stayed on level 1 and the "beach"/pool was the level beneath us.
There's a few restaurants within the hotel (we never had dinner here as was much cheaper in the Old Town!! but we did often come back and have a dessert in the hotel which was always lovely)

I really can't recommend this hotel enough!!

Not a 5 Star Hotel.
Under sheeth does not fit the bed. Nothing was done, although we notified the reception. Higienically not recomended.
Unconfortable mattress.
The staff at Mosaic Restaurant are incompetent, not profissional, disorganized, clumsly wanting always to take dishes away but not concerned with the servicing.
Of course the main fault comes from the head waiter they have there.
The quality of breakfast is dubious. Many variety, but average quality. The price of the food in Restaurant is much too expensive for the quality they offer.
Erroneously they tell in their propaganda that all rooms have nice views and balconies. Which views? Which balconies ?
DEFINETELY NOT A FIVE. STAR HOTEL!

Room Tip: Chose another hotel. There are plenty in Dubrovnik area and the bus services are good.
