My Husband and I recently stayed at the Rixos for 5 days to celebrate my 40th birthday. Prior to arrival I had emailed the hotel to let them know I would be celebrating my birthday during our stay and would appreciate being allocated a lovely room. They responded quickly to my email and described the room we had been allocated. Great service before we even got there!
We arrived at the hotel around midday and thought we'd probably have to wait a couple of hours before we could check in, but the room was ready and we were down by the pool by 12.30pm!
We stayed in a superior room. The room was lovely, if a little small. It had a super king bed, flat screen tv, desk/mirror and a small table and comfy chair. The view from the balcony is spectacular. There are a couple of sun loungers on the balcony and the sun shines on it until mid afternoon. Disappointingly the lights on the balconies don't work. There is a light switch so when the light didn't come on we thought it was broken, however when we reported it we were told that none of the balconies were allowed to have their lights on. I don't know why.
The bathroom is a little odd in that the wall is made of clear glass. It didn't bother us, and it does have a blind if you want to have more privacy.
The pool area is lovely, Lots of sun loungers, a beautiful clean pool and waitresses on roller boots!! There is also a set of steps that takes you down in to the sea.
The price of food and drink is expensive (£5 for a large beer) but that's generally what to expect when eating/drinking in a hotel.
When we went back to our room after the first day a bottle of sparkling wine in an ice bucket had been left for us along with a fruit platter. I presume this was for my birthday and was a really lovely touch. A couple of nights later we came back in and had been left a chocolate mousse cake and strawberry macaroons!
The hotel is allegedly a 10 minute walk away from the old town. There is no way you can do it in 10 minutes!! It's 20 mins at least....30 mins if slowly strolling. As other reviewers have said there is a regular bus that goes past the hotel which costs approx £1.50.
All of the people we met in Dubrovnik (including the hotel staff) were lovely, polite and genuinely friendly. It's a stunning place and I couldn't have imagined a better hotel to stay in.
