“Great space for our family of four!”
Reviewed 7 August 2011

We spent three nights at the Hotel Berkeley with our two teenaged sons. I chose the hotel based on the price and the room size. We stayed in the Seaview Apartment and it was perfect for us. It has a large living room with pull out couches and a kitchen area with a fridge and stove top plus a table for four. There is a separate bedroom and a separate bathroom. The best part was the huge balcony which overlooks the harbor.

There is a pool which was an added bonus! We did not know about it when we booked. It was lovely to come back in the afternoon after sightseeing in the heat to cool off in the pool. The boys especially enjoyed the pool.

Breakfast is included in the stay which with two boys over 6 feet tall is a great deal.

I knew when I booked the hotel that it was not walking distance to the Old City of Dubrovnik. We looked at hotels closer but none of them would accommodate our family in one room. We simply did not want to spend $1000 a night to book two rooms.

The distance was not a problem for us at all. We are pretty savvy travelers and we figured out quickly that if we took the # 8 bus (stop is directly across street from hotel) it would take us to the Buza gate of the old city. And on the way back we would catch the # 8 bus at the Pile Gate (where the 1A and 1B bus stops) and it would drop us off right at the hotel. Super convenient!

For a 3 star hotel the Berkeley is fantastic! Nicer than we expected! We were very satisfied with our stay and would recommend it to families for sure.

Room Tip: If you can book the Sea View apartment!

We enjoyed our 3 day stay in the Berkeley hotel (room 31)
The room was spacious, clean and quiet (the street in front of the hotel is not so busy. There was even a balcony which turned out to be practical to dry towels & such. The sea view" was there, but only very partial (between rooftops). The personnel was extremely helpful and friendly (especially the breakfast lady). The pool is small but very nice to recover from a hard day walk.
The location was good to take ferries, but a bit out of the way for Dubrovnik old city (10 minutes by bus).
The walk in Gruz harbour revealed some nice surpises , like the Blidine restaurant, oposite side from the hotel
The tourist information center is only 5 minutes away and is very useful (to organise excursion, rent à car...etc).

Arrived late because of plane delay. Given wonderful apartment. Was sure there was a mistake but told 'no'. However, in the morning I was told there HAD been a mistake and was asked to change rooms. I had unpacked everything! Finally moved all my stuff. Room of a lower standard - no comfortable chair, no tea/coffee making facilities. As a solo traveler I often feel I don't get a good deal. I think that 130 euros per night is too much. Hope I survive the next 7 days!

Dear David
We sincerely apologised for the mistake in your room for the first night. In regards to your remaining comments, I have to disagree that the hotel or staff are to blame for your disappointment. The room you were allocated the second day is the room you reserved. The specific room type you reserved did not include tea/coffee facilities which is clearly shown on our room descriptions. The 'more comfortable' chair you requested was provided to you immediately the same morning. As a solo traveller we not only provided you with a discounted nightly rate of 135EUR but also offered our special offer of stay 7, pay 6, which makes your nightly room rate approx. 116EUR (which I believe is good value for Dubrovnik high season).
We hope you enjoy the rest of your visit to Dubrovnik.

Kind regards
Katarina

We stayed at the Berkeley Hotel earlier this week. It was a two night stay at the end of an island hopping adventure from Split back down to Dubrovnik. Our room was on the first floor and it was quiet, comfortable and very clean (with fridge and great air con). The staff were helpful, friendly and informative and the breakfast was a mixture of cooked and continental.

We hadn't realised that the hotel had a pool. This was so welcome after lots of swimming in the sea and behaving like beach-bums for two weeks. There are drinks available by the pool which are taken on trust and the pool itself is clean with lots of comfortable loungers on the 1st floor terrace.

Location wise the hotel is a ways out of the Old Town, however a 3 minute stroll away is the bus-stop where the 1A or 1B take you straight to the walls after a 10 minute journey for the sum of 12 kuna. This was so easy to do and we did it both days with no problems.

We so enjoyed our couple of days at the Berkeley. It gave us that added bit of comfort at the end of our stay. There is complimentary wi-fi available and a lap top in reception for guests to use. I'd stay there again if I visited Dubrovnik.

And as for the walled city....just go.

Happy travelling, Lex

Room Tip: Make sure you close the doors and close the slats on the blinds, this provides the best noise filter...

The room we had was very large, which was perfect for repacking for the trip home. Katarina, was able to direct us to a stunning arts and crafts shop in the Old City called AR Atelier. This shop has the best embroidery and needlework I saw while in Dubrovnik. The highlight of the trip, however, was our two day cruise which Katarina arranged on a 40 foot motor boat. The captain, Kreso (pronounced Cresh_oh) was delightful. He knew exactly how to put us at ease and perfectly balanced chatting and allowing us time alone. He was the most memorable person we met on our 3 week trip. He is kind, open and genuine. We dined on the island of Sipan at a fish restaurant called Tauris which I highly recommend. The only reason I did not rate this hotel five stars is that it is somewhat modestly furnished.

Room Tip: We rented the Apartment, which was large and had a stunning view of the sea. Despite facing the str...

Just got back from a 4 night stay at the Berkeley. it was a great hotel. We had a sea view room on the top floor looking out over the harbour. It was a quiet area of the port. The room had everything we needed: comfy bed, loads of storage space with plenty of hangers, hairdryer, kettle, fridge and an electric hob if you wanted to self cater. The breakfast selection was good , cereals, fruit bread, lovely coffee and eggs cooked to order. Just right to set you up for a day exploring the walls. The staff were very friendly and so helpful.
The location was good. Close to the bus station where the airport bus terminated -10min walk , buses into the old town every 10 -15 minutes 5min walk to bus stop. There was a handy supermarket that would make you a sandwich to take out (lovely fresh bread!) and a pharmacy. Both near the bus stop. There were only a few eating places near the hotel but we found some really lovely ones just outside the city walls with lovely views of the fort or the old harbour
We bought a Dubrovnik card which seemed good value with museums and two art galleries. In reality, the museums were small and there were other places to visit that we still had to pay for. Apart from the fabulous walk around the walls , the cable car is a must . Best in the morning for taking photos. At the top was the Museum of the Homeland War which detailed the destruction of the city in 1991. It was good to see how much had been done in 20 years to restore the beautiful city. We had a great time and have lots of lovely photos.

Room Tip: We had a Studio Suite with a sea view. Definitely worth it!
