My boyfriend and I stayed at the Berkeley Hotel from 13 to 18 May 2013. From the start, the customer service was excellent. Despite the number of questions we had, the staff had endless patience. Although we couldn't check in until 2pm, the staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a storage room for our luggage. The room was a good size and we were impressed that it was absolutely spotless. The only quibble was that there were two single beds pushed together rather than one king sized bed as expected. There is a cold breakfast buffet but you can order a hot breakfast too which was delicious. The location is great for the ferry to the islands and it's also close to the main bus station (where you can get the airport bus). It's a short walk to the bus stop where you can the bus to the old town (although the buses weren't as frequent as we would have liked). We have already recommended this hotel to some of our friends and it definitely made our trip all the more enjoyable.

Friendly knowledgeable staff, good breakfast. Easy access to the Old Town. A very nice break with friends for a fiftieth birthday. The Taj Mahal, strange name for a Bosnian restaurant, is well worth a visit though portions are huge.

We had a fantastic time at the Berkeley Hotel from 12-17 May 2013. We arrived using the bus from the airport - 35 Kruna (about £3.80 each) which picked up just outside the airport terminal and dropped us at the bus station at Gruz Harbour (which is where the Cruise ships dock during the day). It really was a doddle and wasn't worth paying the extra for a taxi. The hotel is easy to find about 10 minutes walk away. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful thoughout, They were keen to recommend day trips, help us with bus times (to Cavtat - well worth a visit) and booking restaurants in the old town. There was nothing that they wouldn't have done.....always with a smile!
We had chosen a room with the kitchenette and a sea view - well worth the tiny bit extra for this. Our room was on the top floor and looked out onto the docking for the ships and the pool. It was a lovely view and we have fab photos of the sunset! It also had the kitchette so 2 ring cooker with pans and crockery, a fridge and a sink. Great for cold drinks and rustling up something quick! Supermarket was heading back to the bus station on the harbour - 10 mins away.
Getting into the old town was easy - why walk when the buses are so cheap and frequent. It was 12 kruna for each trip when you buy the tickets in advance (you can get them from reception), but we plumped for the 3 day Dubrovnik Pass. This was 180 Kruna and gets you into a number of the museums, round the walls and 10 bus trips. Given that the wall (90k) and the bus trips (120k) added to 210k, we thought we were onto a winner. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't rush back to any of the other museums covered by the pass, but a couple of them provided suitable loo stops. We did walk into town on a couple of occasions - relatively hilly and took around 30 mins. Go by bus would be my suggestion!
Breakfast at the hotel was as expected - the usual 2 cereals with yogurt, tinned fruit, fresh fruit, cold meat, cheese and bread. In addition, you can chose eggs (scrambled, fried or in omelettes). The cheesy omelette with mushrooms was my choice - he had scambled with ham and mushrooms. Not a lot of choice but always made fresh and lovely!
The pool was great and definatley underused - sheer luxury sitting in the sun with your feet in the pool reading your book at the end of a sightseeing day.
We have recommended this hotel to everyone we have spoken to about our hols - would definately use again if we come back!

My friends and I stayed at this hotel for a girly weekend in dubrovnik. The hotel is family run and they provided us with great service (and breakfast). The hotel is near Gruz Harbour which is 20 mins on the bus / 10 mins in a cab from town (you cannot really walk to town as its too far). The hotel is quite small however the rooms are clean (if not a bit basic) and you are in a good location. Staff are very helpful and friently - the service was good which really made our holiday. i would reccommend this hotel to friends- we had a great time in Dubrovnik.>

Overall, this is a good hotel. We had parking included in our booking (otherwise €5/day) and they have a multi-storey car-park next door. Service was exceptional and the staff really went out of their way to help us. Breakfast was also very good. The room itself was good for a 3* hotel but cleanliness could have been improved slightly in the bathroom. The TV was tiny and not many channels. Additionally, the walls are quite thin. The hotel itself is very convenient - frequent buses to the town (buy from the hotel, singles or day tickets) or a 15-20 mins walk. The price was a little steep for this standard of hotel, but Dubrovnik overall is very expensive so reasonable value for the area. I did not try the pool but it seemed fine.

We stayed here for 4 days from the 11/05/13 - 14/05/13.

Room - We booked a studio sea view room and were given room 33 on the 3rd floor of the hotel facing out from the left hand side of the hotel. The room was lovely and absolutley spotless! It had really modern accessories and a nice clean simple look. Our balcony had a great view overlooking the pool and out to the harbour docking area for large cruise ships and mountian landscape. Was such a nice view only piece that wasnt great was the roof of building directly next to the hotel but nothing they could do about that of course. Was really nice to get up and look out to the water with local church bells ringing in the morning (not close or loud bells). Sleep quality was fantastic with really good air conditioning and very quiet at night. The shower was great with realy high preasure setting to massage your back. The fittings in the bathroom were very modern and botique looking with one big piece of moulded glass for the sink and double sliding door shower. Room was better than what I was expecting. Looks better that in the pics.

Transferes - We got private transferes that were arranged by the hotel for a much better price than I could find anywhere 415kuna there and back to the airport. Believe the driver worked at the hotel too. He was very polite, friendly and professional. Would definatley recommend this service.

Location - The hotel is located one street up from the marina harbour front. It is a 5-10 min bus ride from the old town (any closer and you dont get a seat on the bus as we found out by going a walk along the harbour to the next stop one day). The busses are very frequent and you can get many buses to the old town from here. You cant miss your stop as the old town is the last stop. We walked into the old town on our first day which was uphill most of the way (could have walked along the front that isnt so hilly but we didnt know this at that stage). This was a bit of a trek but not that bad and I hate exercise. There is a little supermarket over the hill and along a bit on the hotel road which is really cheap and worth a visit for supplies. Overall the location was great. Really quiet not far from the old town at all and good views.

Service - This was excellent. Reception always able to give advice and directions. Very friendly and helpfull. The women who served breakfast were efficient and friendly too.

Overall I would highly recomend this hotel. I had concerns about the location but neednt have worried, it looks alot further out than it actually is on a map from old town. It was great value for money and and excellent base to stay whilst visiting the beautiful Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: rooms with sea view are great either looking out from the front of hotel or side view which we had...

The Berkeley is situated close to Gruz Harbour where the cruise ships stopping at Dubrovnik dock. This isn't a problem as the hotel is one street back from the main road running along the front. Some reports say that it is a 10 - 15 minute walk to the Old Town, this would be pushing it somewhat as the bus tends to take that long - allow a good half an hour walk!! Bus fare, if ticket bought from newspaper/cigarette kiosks is 12 Kuna (approx £1.20).

The hotel is small and modern and yes the staff really do make you feel welcome and can't do enough to help and recommend things to do and see, you don't get that with the big boys!

Rooms are extremely clean and functional, one small criticism is the provision of coffee and creamer in one pack meaning that, if like me you only drink black coffee it is a case of provide your own but that is no big deal. Nice touch was the provision of a tea towel to dry cups and glasses and also a full size fridge, wine glasses and most importantly a corkscrew/bottle opener!

Breakfast can either be a continental style buffet with meats and cheeses, yoghurts and rolls or cooked, bacon eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms plus toast, tea and freshly made coffee.

We booked this hotel through Venere but it is good to see that BA have it on their list of approved hotels. There is a pool which we didn't have time to use but would certainly recommend this to anyone going to Dubrovnik as being situated where it is there is little evening/night time noise to keep you awake.

Thanks to everyone at the Berkeley who made our stay a very pleasant and enjoyable one!
