Stayed here on a short break and found the staff to be friendly, attentive and keen to help you have a great holiday. They were very good to deal with prior to arrival by email and arranged transfers from the airport for us.

The staff were all pleasant and ready to offer advice on buses, places to go and the trips they could offer as well.

We used the local bus service to the old town and back which saved a walk in the heat. There are a number of good restaurants nearby so we walked to them in the evening.

We took advantage of the boat trips they offer and had a great day out going round the islands, swimming, perusing the local shops and enjoying the open air.

Breakfast service is good and in the evening the bar service was good too.

We did use the pool which was very refreshing after walking the city walls in the afternoon.

If you are looking for a comfortable hotel in Dubrovnik this definitely fits the bill.

I will definitely go here again.

We spent a pleasant week here having spent a lot of time looking into where to stay.
The reception staff gave a friendly welcome and let us have our room early as there is a 2 pm check in. If they hadn't I don't think we would have been amused. They knew when we would arrive as we booked their taxi service !!
Anyhow, first impressions of the hotel were a litle disappointing, it is nothing to look at and is in a busy and slightly run down area with views over the Gruz harbour. The restaurant is quite dull and old looking with no real views.
We booked a sea view which wasn't that good. An interrupted view over the pool of a flat roofed empty building and then onto cruise ships with some sea in between. It was okay but not what we expected.
The room was clean and well presented, the fridge was useful. Tea and coffee but no milk, we had to buy this from the local supermarket. The bathroom is just a shower, no bath but new and modern. Other than shower caps and a squeezy soap and shower dispenser nothing supplied. This could be easily improved upon.
The pool was very clean but quite a small area and not much room for more than 8 or so people around it. Good for a quick cool off but no more.
The restaurant provides only breakfast. Now I have read the reviews on this and will have to go against the run of opinions.
The breakfast, by today's standards for travelers is pretty basic. A table set out with yoghurts, croissants , some awful cereals, cheese and ham.
Slices of melon and tinned fruit salad. Fresh fruit in a basket, mostly not ripe .There is a limited hot selection, eggs, bacon, tomato and what seemed like tinned mushrooms, but you can only have 2 with your eggs not all of them.
Everything was fried, even the scrambled eggs and was quite greasy. A disappointing show especially as it was the same every day for a week.
On the plus side the staff are all vey helpful and will give you fruendly advice on anything you need in Dubrovnik
The down side is the location.
It is on a hill about 1/2 hour walk to old town. There are buses available but up and down a steep hill. If you do not or cannot walk You will need to bus it everywhere and this takes time and can be quite costly. The hotel is not close to any of the sights except the Gruz harbour which is pretty and has trips you can take on the boats.
We walked most of the time but anyone with walking limitations should be ware.
Finally, if you can then take the offer of a speedboat trip through the hotel. A fantastic trip to the islands with a great chauffeur , well done George.
A pleasant stay mainly let down by location which they can do little about, thus it will probably remain a good 3* hotel.

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at this delightful hotel overlooking the harbour at Gruz. The staff are all very dedicated to making each guest feel like an individual and are all very professional in their approach.Rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished with super air con and a lovely bathroom.Small kitchen area with replenished tea and coffee facilities welcomed.Nice pool area for relaxation. Reception staff are all very helpful and happy to offer advice to guests on where to visit and where to eat out. Excursions booked through the hotel are top drawer. Would recommend unreservedly.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and go for the sea view rooms

I am so glad we chose this hotel as it was just perfect for a long weekend in Dubrovnik.
Location – The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the bus station at the main port. This is perfect if you choose to come in from the airport on the shuttle bus (I would recommend it as it only takes 30 minutes, you get a great view down on the city and it only costs 35 kuna).
The area is very quiet compared to the constant throngs of tourists in the old town which I preferred. Don’t get me wrong, the old town is amazing however starting and finishing your day in the peace and tranquillity of the port area is a really nice option.
There are a selection of local bars in the port area, perfect for a quiet drink before heading out in the evening or a night cap on your return. There are also a few pizza restaurants (I would recommend Bon Appetit).
The bus service in Dubrovnik is excellent, a two minute walk from the hotel gets you down to a stop where there are regular busses into the city (1A, 1B, 3) and also a 20 minute walk round the port gets you to a stop where you can get a bus (6) up the hill to the Lapad area (recommended). If you are in Dubrovnik I would recommend the Dubrovnik card, once you have done the wall walk and got a few busses it has already paid for it’s self and makes bus travel so easy.
Sorry I have digressed, back to the hotel.
Staff – The staff in the hotel could not be more polite and helpful. They will give you pointers on anything Dubrovnik and are always there if you have a question. The lady who serves the breakfast is really nice and gave us some great suggestions of what to do with our day.
Room – The rooms are a good size, very clean and well equipped. The air conditioning did a great job of cooling down the room on our return from the sweltering heat of the day and the shower was a good size.
The highlight of the room was the bed, it was so comfortable it made it hard getting going in the morning, so tempting to sleep your holiday away.
We never used the pool but it is a great option to have, we preferred to go swimming in the sea.
Dubrovnik stay Recommendations – Do the walk round the city walls, spend a morning out at Lokrum island, spend a morning walking round the bay at Lapad, eat at Otto’s Taverna (20 minute walk from the hotel round to the south end of the port), eat at Marco Polo’s in the middle of the old town, and finally, eat your own body weight in local ice cream, just amazing.

We recently stayed for 5 nights at this hotel. The staff were always helpful and attentive and really made you feel at home. The room was very clean and excellently equipped with air con, fridge, tv and a large bathroom. The breakfast was well presented and a hot selection was cooked to order. There were no extra charges for anything and the swimming pool and loungers were well looked after. You can walk to the old town in 45 mins or catch one of many buses. I find it difficult to find anything negative to say except the orange and apple juice was powdered not real. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again if we returned to Dubrovnik.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in a twin room for 2 people. My observations about the hotel are summarised in the following categories:

a. Staff - they are so lovely, especially the 2 female staff that served us during the evening shift. They told us where to eat, recommended uswhere to go etc. Super friendly even when I started asking questions about the hotel facilities about a month ago.

b. Free breakfast 7-10am everyday - awesome, the omelette with mushrooms and ham , I highly recommend. Also the lady who served us during breakfast hours was so lovely and nice to talk to.

c. Hotel Amenities - Quite Basic, the air con was not cold enough but the room size is quite big. You just need to drop the towel on the floor to ask for clean ones each day.

d. Distance to old town - hmm some what far if you are walking with an elderly person (ie 60+). It took us 35 min to walk to the old town. Taxi was also available but we thought we tried walking.

e. Restaurants around the hotel - not much to choose i would recomment HOtel Petka restaurant. Their scampi soup and prawn risotto were by far one of the best dinner we have experienced. There is no food menu offered within the hotel. Only breakfast is served.

As we were mostly away to other town/cities during our 5 day trip to Dubrovnik, we have not utilised alot of the other hotel amenities. We did however paid 450 kuna for the hotel transfer which is cheap for 2 people and felt relaxed and less hectic that way. IN summary I would say this is definitely a nice hotel to stay.

We stayed for 4 nights in one of the 2-room apartments at the Berkeley as a party of three - couple plus adult son. Right from the start is was obvious that the big plus point here is the friendly and helpful staff (all fluent in English). When booking our rooms, we had also arranged transfers from the airport to the hotel and our early morning flight meant that we arrived before our rooms were ready. No problem - luggage stored in a secure room, map provided for the local area along with recommendations on where to eat lunch (and more importantly where to avoid!).

The accommodation suited us perfectly. A double bedroom (with a proper double bed, not two twins pushed together), a living area made up with a single sofa bed and a kitchen space (although the only item we used was the fridge, which was handy for keeping drinks cool). Both rooms had their own flat screen TV with the usual selection of multi-language news channels plus four free-to-view sports channels. There was also free wi-fi throughout the hotel. The only small drawback was that, for our purposes, it would have been convenient if we could have had two room keys, but this wasn't possible.

The en-suite shower room was quite cramped but everything worked perfectly. Both rooms had access to a private balcony which gave views across Gruz harbour and out towards the Elaphite islands - but only if you were standing! If you sat down to relax, the concrete retaining wall proved to be too high to see over, which was a pity.

Choices for breakfast, taken in a reasonably sized dining room, were wide enough to satisfy most tastes. Hot options were cooked to order, including freshly made toast. The cold spread included cereals, yogurt, cold meats, cheese, and fresh fruit (the strawberries were a particular favourite). Although no evening meals were available there was a small bar for those who wanted a night cap before bed.

The private pool/jacuzzi area, on a first floor roof, was quite small but very tidy and clean. It provided a welcome chill-out space after a hot day in the Old City.

As others have noted, the location is not central, but this needn't be a problem. There are frequent buses (any No.1A/B/C) from the port area to the Old City and a direct route (No.8) from opposite the hotel takes you to the Mount Srd cable car station. For just over £20, a 3-day City Card (available from the hotel) gives you 10 bus journeys plus access to the City Walls and the most popular museums.

We found the local restaurants to be every bit as good as those in the Old City, with the bonus that you don't have to defend against the onslaught of the over-enthusiastic waiters vying for business. Right from the start, the friendly staff at the Berkeley made sure that we were comfortable and that we had everything we needed - a personal touch that I suspect would be missing in the bigger resort-type hotels in Lapad or Babin Kuk.

In summary then, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Berkeley and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for a base to explore Dubrovnik and surrounding area.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors (3 and 4) have the best views of the harbour.
