“No room at the inn, but a convienient restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

To save the walk into town we decided to eat at the hotel. We can't really comment on the rooms etc as we were double booked and had to stay in a partner hotel around the corner. We were however offered a discount for the difference in price after complaining and the replacement was ok for a one night stopover. Restaurant food was good enough and not expensive with the usual fayre on offer , pasta, pizza meat fish etc. It's a strange set up as the kitchen seems to be in two locations and staff are kept extremely busy buzzing between the two. This however is the special factor as they work very hard to keep customers and guests happy. The Restaurant has a retractable roof for when it's get a bit cold or rainy. Unfortunately it had to be used on this occasion but the excellent service from the young lady Maja (she deserves a special mention) made it look like she could even control the weather!!. We would stay here again but would prefer the hotel we actually booked as it looked nice.

We picked this hotel because we wanted to explore the city of Pula for three days and it looked central and had good reviews on this site. We were not disappointed. The rooms were all different and ours contained double beds and decent size bathroom with shower. The location was excellent - 5 minutes walk to the centre of the old city and easy walking distance to all the sites. Staff were all very friendly and helpful giving us directions and recommendations for things to see and places to eat. My only slight criticism would be the breakfast. We were at the hotel in July when it was full and this meant that food kept running out at busy times and although the girls worked hard to keep it coming from the kitchen, we often had to wait for popular items. It wasnt helped by certain greedy families just taking whole plates of croissants when they were brought out instead of sharing with everyone else! Overall a very pleasant stay in a lovely well-run small hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter

The hotel offered a perfect location in the middle of Pula for my recent one night stay. It is a five minute walk into the centre of the town and ten minutes to the amazing Roman Ampitheatre.

My twin room was well decorated and clean. Toiletries were provided in the bathroom and there was also a reasonably priced mini bar in the room. I much appreciated the air conditioning after a long, hot day sightseeing and the free wifi is a bonus too.

The reception staff were friendly and obliging.

Breakfast was included in my room tariff, but it was this part of the stay which let the hotel down. The offerings included cereals, pastries, cold meats and cheeses, scrambled eggs, breads, fruits and yoghurts. All on a self service basis, but terribly chaotic. The young girl overseeing the replenishment of the food seemed unable to cope and guests were made to wait for more food to arrive. The cramped location of the breakfast area makes it even more disorganised.

Breakfast aside, my short stay was comfortable and enjoyable and good value.

The hotel seems to have expanded its restaurant to across the road, (and you can see the staff rushing the dishes across the road too!).
The staff is friendly and the decoration is unusual with a sort of oversized bathtub / mini swimmingpool in the middle of the diningroom. Purpose? Just for fun I guess.
Service was ok but the pasta was really disappointing. The "seafood pasta" didn't taste bad, but I wasn't expecting to find surimi (you know, so called "crab-sticks", i.e. industrially processed & flavoured fish leftovers) in an authentic pasta dish!! The tagliatelle tasted just like supermarket dry pasta...
Overall it was just about ok, mostly thanks to decent value, but really nothing special.

The hotel offers a excellent location in the centre of Pula, Croatia. It is within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. We arrived about 9pm for a one night stay. The girl on reception was very nice and welcoming. She showed us to our room on the first floor. It stank of stale cigarettes. We said that we could not stay in the room due to the smell of stale tobacco. She was very understanding and showed us another three rooms in a separate building directly across the road. The first was a family room, the second a very small twin bed room and the third a tiny twin attic room. We chose the first room. Unfortunately the air conditioner did not work. The shower holder was broken, so one had to hold the shower. Given that we were only staying one night, this was fine. We had booked B&B. We had a decent B but the second B (breakfast) was awful. The girl in charge seemed to have just woken up before us, she looked tired and was disinterested, later on when we went to check out, she was much more friendly, I assume she had woken up properly then. Breakfast was cornflakes and some old fruit. There was supposed to be scrambled eggs and other offerings but no. The coffee was undrinkable from a cheap coffee selection machine, uch. However, these negatives apart, the staff were very nice and very friendly. Apparently the hotel is a new build but they forgot to put in a lift. Be aware of this if you arrive with a number of heavy bags or have difficulty with steep stairs.

The Hotel Galija has very welcoming staff who set a very warm and hospitable tone to their establishment. Some rooms are in a block just across the street from reception, and if possible you should book the room called "Nicol', tucked away next to room 21. The decor and furnishings here are a mix of art-nouveau and gothic, but the double bed is just as comfortable as a modern one, and the modern bathroom is faultless. I did not stay long enough to sample more of the hotel's facilities, but the breakfast buffet was excellent. Just down the hill from the hotel and turn right then right again will bring you to the Arena ; down the hill, across the crossroads and you are in a market square, with a supermarket up the slop to the left, close to the main road. In the other direction from the market is the pedestrianized street which leads you to the Arch of Sergei and beyond that, to the Forum. I would willingly stay at the Galija on any future visit to Pula.

Room Tip: For something unusual, ask for the room called "Nicol"
