My first walled city as such and fascinating. just to have all those periods of history in an enclosed place. The views to the Adriatic are amazing, the ice cream was great and the people were friendly.

When visiting Zadar or Croatia as a whole beware of receiving fake currency.I was fortunate to have received only a forged 20 Kuna note from a cash transaction in Zadar. It could have come from a local bar or a taxi driver.. The notes dont have the silver strip that runs down the right hand side of the note and the small rectangular strip on the left hand side bottom is missing too. Be careful when receiving cash at a bar or other outlet during the nightas you will probably not notice. Other than that Zadar is a very safe place to visit and has plenty to offer to the tourist.

City gates to old towns all start to look the same after a while. Zadar old town is nothing special. Do yourself a favor and visit Trogir which is about an hour south down the coast instead.

Beautifully built city gate which is a nice architecture but would not call it an attraction. Just an ornament of the old town center.

A gate with Venetian influence, Zadar was once the largest walled city in the Venice hegemony. If you walk in one entrance, it means you are bringing the city good tidings, if you walk through another, then your intent is not good. It leads to the center of the city where a university and shops are built.
The masonry is solid and the sculptures in the gate are well detailed.
