“Lovely hotel right on the beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2011

Spent a lovely couple of days at this small-ish family run hotel. It's right on the beach and the hotel also has a number of sun loungers you can use (if you can find a spot to put them on the beach!)

The room itself was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was brilliant.

The hotel also has a very large restaurant where you have breakfast and we also ate there a couple of times as well. The breakfast was a large number of different items (fresh fruit salad, cold meats, coffee, juice, etc, etc) delivered to your table and was very good. I also had local grilled squid there which was lovely, but it was very, very salty.

The location of Hotel Niko is too far from Zadar center to walk -- 3.6 km. We were greeted warmly by a helpful receptionist who answered all our questions. Our room had a good shower and firm beds, but we would still warn you to avoid Room 108. It is located directly above the bar and we heard noisy voices long into the night. Breakfast was the worst we had in Croatia. There were no hot items such as eggs, sausages, pancakes, etc., which was not very forthcoming for a hotel with an enormous and supposedly top-rated restaurant. Only cold items were set out: yogurt, fruit, croissants, cold cuts, tomatoes, and strangely: sugar cookies! No other items were available. Supposedly there was no smoking (no ashtrays at the table). However, our server spent most of her time sitting down at the far end of the restaurant, smoking cigarettes, and the smoke aroma where we were sitting was obvious. We had to go back and find her to get a coffee refill.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not above the bar.

I was more then a happy staying at this lovely small family managed beach hotel. It is jsut few kilometers outside the city, just next to Zadar marina. In a dead end street, very peaceful at a beach with a nice city view. Large bedrooms, great breakfast, parking, free internet access, AC, 30 meters to beach and above all the best restaurant in the area. Better option then most of the big city hotels.

Initial and exterior impressions left us a little guarded, however the hotel and staff proved worthy of their excellent reputation. The hotel is situated on a residential spit of land with a narrow but popular pebbly beach and Marina. It overlooks the bay towards the old town. Taxis there varied between 35 & 50 Kuna. Although one morning, because the taxi was delayed, one of the staff went out of her way to drop us at the row boat ferry across to the old town- an experience well worth trying (5kn pp). We returned by row ferry and then walked the rest - about 40 minutes along the coast road, but personally I wouldn't do it in the heat of the day.
Although a modern building the hotel is decorated in classic style, red carpet, dark wood etc The rooms are spacious with sizeable balconies- ours had two. A meal at the restaurant is a must. As hotel guests we were reserved one of the best tables. We followed the waiters recommendations and had one of the best fish dishes I have ever tasted (in 30 years of restaurant experience). Prices on the expensive side, but well worth it. Clearly the locals love it too, as it was always packed. Overall, highly recommended.

We arrived on the ferry from Ancona, Italy with no reservations and just two hotel names. We didn't really think we would have the time to do this so did not really research it. Our taxi driver took us to the first two hotels, one was too expensive and would not allow an early check in (about 8am). Our driver then took us to Hotel Niko, the girls at the front desk spoke perfect english and we covered what we wanted; ocean view, wi-fi, breakfast, decent rate though a little more than we wanted to spend. Early check in and we are set! The room was very large, with two balconies!

Later that day they helped us get a rental car to go to Plitvicka National Park and showed us on the map how to get there. I can't say enough about the service at this hotel.

The breakfast was amazing, we could not ever finish it all. Fresh fruit, croisants, bread, meat and cheese... My husband asked for eggs and got them every day thereafter without asking. All of this overlooking the great ocean view from the restaurant.

The beach across the street is rocky, but there are lounge chairs for you to use so it's all good. The water is cold! With the temp here at 107 I wish I was back there now!

There is a little bar at the end of the road with a nice couch just waiting for you at sunset for your evening drink. Back the other way just around the corner to the left is a grocery store, atm and some restaurants. We did not get to spend any time in town, we were there to see Plitvicka, which is amazing. Not a bad drive from Hotel Niko, about 2 hours max on good roads. We were really surprised how good the roads are.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel and Croatia in general, the people are down to earth and friendly. We hope to get back to do a coastal trip in the near future.

A super advert for Croatian tourism, all staff we encountered were attentive and switched on - determined to ensure we had what it took to enjoy our stay. Nice location, though a distance from the old town centre. No wifi signal, though we never got around to asking about it. Only downside was the lack of any written directions on what to do/where to go in the event of a fire.

Although a little bit more expensive than our usual hotels by the end of our stay we felt it was worth every penny. From check-in to check-out all staff were exceptional. Breakfast was served to a high standard with great croissants and their hotel restaurant enjoys fantastic sea views. The rooms are very spacious and clean with lovely balconies again with sea views. Although a five minute bus journey from the centre of zadar this hotel offers best of both worlds - beaches on your door step and close to the old town. Would definitely stay there again.
