“Pleasant but basic”
Reviewed 25 September 2013 via mobile

The apartment itself is pleasant. As other reviewers have noted, it is slightly unfinished, but nothing major. The apartment we stayed in was spacious and had a nice balcony. A couple of small improvements could have made a major difference, better quality bedding, pillows and linen. The shower was also tiny and had a bit of mould. Other than those small issues we had a nice stay and thought it was good value. Stefan, the manager, was helpful. It was not too hard to find, very near the north gate of Kotor old town: a very convenient location.

It is in a great location in the old town. The accomodation was very hard to find so make sure you know where you are going or you will have to phone someone (we racked up a big roaming bill trying to find it).
The staff are friendly but don't all speak english (some spoke none). The apartment was neither clean or dirty and wasn't cleaned during our stay. The room was very unfinished (no bannister on the stairs, light fittings hanging down, unpainted wood work, no curtains). Room facilities were basic. Despite all of the above we enjoyed our stay, don't book the hotel with expectations of good services and furnishings.

We were a party of 4 adults and 4 children and stayed there 1 night in July while travelling from Dubrovnik to Budva. They have several houses inside Kotor old town walls which can be (or not ...) a problem for you ... We had one of the houses with 2 floors entirely for us but only because there wasn't any other rooms booked in that house. FIRST TIP: you may have to share the house (not the room) with other guests so if it is a problem for you better to ask when booking ...

Our apartment house had 1 large room (with a kitchnette and bath) on ground floor and 2 rooms sharing a basic bathroom on first floor. OTHER TIP: i got the idea that if we had only booked 1 room and it was on the 1st floor, we might have to share the WC with other guests ... if this is a problem to you better to confirm when booking.

The owner and the guy who delivered us the key were very friendly and welcoming. The reception and the apartments were not easy to find in the middle of Kotor but we called them and they to meet us. Also helped us to carry the luggage as the cars are not allowed in the old town. We were lucky and parked the car in a free zone but it is not easy ... and then had to carry the bags for about 300-400 meters. There are paid parking alternatives but always outside the old town walls so carry the luggage will always happen ...

No meals were included but there are lots of nice places around to eat or have a drink. TIP: "Luna Rossa" restaurant is very good and with top class service (although a bit pricey ...).

Kotor is an awesome spot and well worth a visit for its villages, the landscape and the old town. The beaches aren't for my taste (i like sandy beaches ...) ...

Price for 1 night, 2 quadruple rooms (although we got 1 for free when arrived) for 8 people: 70 €

Room Tip: If sharing bathrooms or having other guests in the same house is a problem for you, better to confir...

I was really looking forward to this one, before i arrived. When i was in Kotor i had a vague idea of where it should be. I actually looked it up on a map like 5 minutes before making my way to the place. 30 minutes later and after a lot of talking with the locals, i actually found the place. There was no sign whatsoever to give you any clue about it's location. And forget about the house number, no local can tell where a specific number is located. The old city is just a big (but very nice looking) mess.

Well, after i called the owner from a locals phone, he met me on a street, brought me to main place, which i believe is also his home, handed me over to a younger guy and then they brought me to the next street to a bulding place. Yeah, they were just finishing the new place. Well...not a big problem for me, but it feels a bit odd at first. They actually demand cash payment beforehand, so thats why the young guy was talking a walk with me, in search of a place where he could change my money into smaller denomination. It all felt a bit strange and unprofessional in my eyes, though the young guy was very nice (the owner was a bit intimidating though).

After i was in my room, i had good feeling. It looked good, was big enough, clean and well...it felt homey. But after you stayed in the place for some time, you will notice that it is still very unfinished. While the room was furnished out very nicely, with two beds, a small table, a kitchen area, a tv, and a hyper modern shower, there were so many loose ends, that it was just a bit sad. There were loose lams hanging out from the wall, the wifi passwort was pinned to the wall on a bit paper, the blanket was not made out of linen, but out of wool, the ceiling was kinda loosing paint, which was falling to the floor, the shower was hyper modern, but also ultra-complicated to use, with a lot of gimmicks, but it was hard enough to get some warm water out of it, and so on (at least i managed to get a sound of police siren out of the shower, wow !). The place has so many potential, but if you stay there, you will notice so many things that feel unfinished. Maybe they will finish it up later or maybe they just don't care. Sometimes i get the feeling that these places recycle just everything they can find anywhere and use it to build an apartment. Don't get me wrong, the place is kind classic, with the large brick walls, but they need a much better management to make it feel really good.

The service is also really hit and miss. As i said before, the young guy is really good, the owner himself seemed just disinterested. And the place shows. It feels unfinished. Another thing that bothered me: There is no real reception, just the living place of the owners. They keep your passport until you check out, even if you pay on arrival. And then you have to go to the owners flat (4th floor, no elevator of course) and knock on the door. Before you knock, you will hear someone screaming at another person. Gives you a good feeling already...

Well, the place is not really bad, but i wouldn't recommend it to highly. I guess there are other places, which offer the same kind of comfort on the same price level. And for the self-praised service...i had better service in Montenegro at cheaper places...
