“Dont stay here if you need comfort”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

It the old soviet era hotel with quite historic look, with furniture (quite interesting actually) and even staff from that time. View from the top floors are amazing as well as the breeze from corner windows.

Do not expect comfort and quality, it is really good as a historic place and experience and we enjoyed the stay.

Surprisingly, the sleep quality was appalling with loud disco sounds till 3-4am from somewhere.

Breakfast was close to not existent and do not expect internet in the room (you can access it in cafe on the ground floor).

Location is the best.

It is very strange place and I doubt I will be staying there again soon, but I do not regret about my previous choice.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor

Failure of our SatNav to take us to a hotel still functioning in Nis, we walked into the Hotel Ambasador late at night - OK we were sitting pigeons... took the double room at 52 Eur/night without inspection of room beforehand.... hideous turquoise paint in bathroom, no hot water before end of shower, no minibar, no international TV, no i/net connection... and breakfast was a farce with only ourselves in the huge dining area, the table was not even laid. We requested a discount when we paid, to no avail. This hotel is a remnant of past Yugoslavian glory, now only worth demolishment and re-build. Very poor quality for the exorbitant price. Definitely not to be recommended.

Room Tip: Do not think about using this hotel

Stayed here for one night between Ohrid and Belgrade in September 2010. Booked a room with air con on Laterooms at a price that was a little more than the hostels advertised on hostelworld at the time. Cant remember exactly but probably between £15-20 per person, per night including breakfast. We booked about 2 days in advance as originally planned to go to Kosovo, check in went fine, although they only gave us a basic room at first.

We enjoyed our stay here as was kind of funny. Easy walk to bus station and the castle grounds, on a main square with underground shops and McDonalds beckoning us from our window!

A real experience of the past, with all the old celeb photos and air of former glories, It was kind of sad to walk around all the public areas and feel the faded, left to rottness of it all, but it was an experience. Free internet was fine, and breakfast adequate in big room, with only about 4 people eating! We tried to get something to eat at night, but the restauarant could only do chips, but then again it was gone 11pm.

Staff at reception spoke English and were helpful when required.

The carpets, corridors etc are grotty. Room was reasonably sized, and windows opened on to that square which was good. Sheets were clean but had a hole in. Bathroom was a bit shabby, but overall this was an interesting glimpse into the past and we were glad we stayed here.

Room Tip: Go up high to get views, but check lifts are working (they were when we were there).

Hotel is located in a city center but it is very rundown. It shoud be renovated already a long time ago, but according to what receptionist said it is still in goverment hands.

Breakfast is OK, but rooms are a dissaster. In the bathroom you need to put a chair inside the shower as the bottom of the shower is so disgusting. AVOID!

Room Tip: get it in a lower floors as an elevator ofter breaks down!

Hotel "Ambasador Nis" - high-rise building (by local standards), rising from near the bus station. Either 16, or 24 floors. Despite the fact that in the hall hangs a black and white portraits of actors and actresses of the Yugoslav and world level (Robert Burton, Elizabeth Taylor), who have stayed at the hotel, the hotel itself left much to be desired. It turns out that standard room here - the cold room with the heater, without a refrigerator and TV. I don't would recommend to noone. Breakfast disgusting, I did not eat there. But near hotel is the pancake cafe "Dr. Pancake" - have breakfest there. Internet cafe did not work. Stuff relation is terrible.

Room Tip: Write true about this hotel - maybe they will upgrade and do renovation.

The ONLY good thing about this hotel is the free computer use in the lobby (if the computer actually works).

Way too many people standing around, have no idea what is going on, rooms bare-bones and run-down, lobby huge but vacant because no one wants to stay here.

It is located centrally to Nis and you can pretty much walk out the door and to the underground "mall" that has everything you could possibly want or need at an amazingly low price. Also, don't miss Dr. Pancaker near-by for a great fruit crepe prepared by an upbeat, friendly staff.

Just don't spend long in this run-down depressing hotel. Windows are duct taped closed and it's so stuffy you can hardly wait to escape.

Room Tip: Rooms on top floors have great view of city.

Great hotel in the 70-80 period. Sadly, seems that they have abandoned the hotel since than. Even the staff seemed very surprised that someone wanted to stay in their hotel.
Terrible rooms, terrible breakfast, no service whatsoever.
