“A good choice for Pristina”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2014

I recently moved to Pristina, and stayed at the Hotel Sirius for my first week. Overall, I found it to be quite comfortable, and I would recommend it. My corner room was very large, and the furnishings and bathroom were modern. Even though Pristina is experiencing water shortages, my shower always had hot water and good water pressure. The wi-fi worked perfectly, and the front desk staff was friendly. The location was also convenient; it only takes a few minutes to walk to the pedestrian center of Pristina (restaurants, cafes, bars, etc). There are some aspects, however, which are a bit old-fashioned. For example, the elevator is small and slow; the front desk's computers wouldn't allow me to settle my bill the night before my check-out; and one can't dial internationally from the room phone (the front desk has to make the call and then transfer it to your room). Also, while the view from the rooftop restaurant is nice, the food is mediocre. Regarding the breakfast buffet, it is adequate (nothing spectacular). There is also no gym, which is a shame. Despite these minor drawbacks, the hotel is a good choice overall, and I would stay there again.

I found this to be an excellent hotel. It was highly recommended by several colleagues who had used it in the past and I was certainly very happy with it too. The rooms are large, modern and clean. It is also in a very good location. The staff were extremely helpful and were able to give me advice when needed. I would certainly recommend it.

For organising a conference, Sirius was a great place. The staff was professional, all needs were taken care of and not in a satisfactory but in a truely "exceeding expectations" manner. We did not have any worries starting from transfeers / food / accommodation or conference services. We were a little troubled with regulating heating in rooms and room service was hesitative about cleaning up dishes but that is truely the only downside of our stay there and the staff was always there to help find solutions.

When we arrived we were very impressed with the hotel, the staff were very friendly.
Our room was very spacious.
We enjoyed a meal in the restaurant.
I had an accident which needed a trip to the hospital for stitches and the two chaps who took me were brilliant at sorting me out with the language barrier and getting me there and back within an hour and half.

An excellent location since everything a business traveler or tourist needs is on the doorstep. Our room was spacious, comfortable and extremely clean and in spite of the fact that it overlooked a busy main road, we were not disturbed by the traffic especially when the window was closed. The bedroom was spacious and the bed very comfortable with a perfectly laundered sheet, duvet cover and pillow cases. The bathroom too was spacious and clean towels were provided daily. Shower gel dispenser available along with sachets of shampoo and other necessities. Bathrobes and slippers are also provided. TV stations limited but good viewing if you like football!! BBC World News disappeared after our first day. Not a wide choice of TV channels especially when you know what is available these days in Kosovo. Buffet breakfast was perfectly adequate with a selection of hot and cold food. Did not try the restaurant on the 8th floor but did take a walk on the terrace to admire the view of the city especially at sunset. On the ground floor there is a café where hot and cold drinks are available around the clock it seemed. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We used the hotel’s airport pick-up service which was efficient. The only negative … not enough coat hangars in the wardrobe for two people and no drawers but can certainly recommend the Hotel Sirius.

Location

The hotel is located on one of the main city centre roads one block over from the pedestrian precinct. It is a few minutes’ walk to the main government offices and many banks, shops and restaurants.

View from Roof Terrace

As others have mentioned, this is really excellent – however, the views from the rooms less so (see below). There is also a lot of interesting, thought-provoking, original – and sometimes rather dark – art on the walls and in the corridors.

Staff etc.

The staff are friendly and helpful. I arrived without my bag and was lent an adaptor for my plug and the front desk did their best to persuade the airline to deliver my bag. This was unsuccessful and I had to make a trip out to the airport to pick it up.

There are two – extremely slow – lifts but no service lift. As a result one lift is in use for bed linen etc. just at the time of day when people are coming and going to breakfast and leaving for meetings. Management could ensure that staff use is early in the morning or after, say, 9.30 am when people will have left for their day’s activities.

Food

The breakfast buffet is adequate if repetitive and not particularly exciting. There is omelette, sausage, mushrooms (if early) and vegetables on the hot plates and a selection of cold meats, cheese and cereal. Coffee is from an urn and you can have as many cups as you want – or order from the waiters. It does have the world’s slowest toaster, though!

The restaurant/room service menu is extensive and good. I recommend the Antipasti Sirius which is a meal in itself. Two excellent courses and a beer delivered to the room for €17 to €20.

Bedroom

The room was large with a very comfortable queen sized bed with large work space and has a well-stocked and – for hotels – reasonably priced mini-bar. However, there are a large number of minor inconveniences, in no particular order, which detract from what could be an excellent hotel:

• Cleaning: the carpet was not vacuumed for several days in a row leaving lots of crumbs around the area I was snacking in;

• Soundproofing: I do not really want to be able to hear next door’s television;

• View: we were given “quiet” rooms at the back of the hotel. However, there is a block of flats about ten yards away making the room permanently dark.

• Temperature: as a previous reviewer has mentioned, the air conditioning is centralised and was switched off. The only means of regulating the temperature being to open the window which meant getting noise from various sources (including an air-conditioner!); giant mosquitoes and smells from the kitchen.

• Coat Hooks: there were no hooks for outside coats.

• Cupboards: someone else mentioned these. I suppose that a basketball player might find the top shelves useful but not mere mortals! Thus there was very limited space in which to put clothes.

• Coat Hangers: there were only three coat hangers (tip: get your shirts washed and get more hangers!).

• No Kettle for Coffee Making: these should really be standard. However, being warned by a previous reviewer I bought my own.

• Poor Lighting: the room was always dark due to the closeness and height of the neighbouring buildings and the internal lighting was very poor (as it is in most hotels) making it difficult to work at any time and near impossible after dark.

• Armchair: the room is big enough so why not put a comfortable armchair from which to watch TV or read? The Hotel Pristina – which used on my previous visits – had very large rooms and very comfortable armchairs last time I used it.

• TV: very limited range of programmes. Silent Premier league matches!

• Bin: the absence of a bin – apart from a tiny one in the bathroom - has been noted by a previous reviewer.

• “Airlock”: the addition of a second door between the entrance passage and the bedroom would have reduced or eliminated the noise from other guests in the corridor.

Bathroom

The bathroom is, again, very large with a big bath with shower over it. The area around the sink is very large and more than adequate for toiletries etc. However, as with the bedroom, there were a number of minor demerits. None of these are serious in their own right but together they add up to another “missed trick” for the hotel. Had the bedroom and bathroom not had these small niggles I would have been tempted to give it 4* or even 5* instead of the 3* I did.

The bathroom niggles included:

• Heated Towel Rail: absent.

• Tissues: absent.

• Tooth Mug: absent.

• Shaving Light: absent.

Check-out

I was just about to write that I was not allowed to pay the evening before my check out despite leaving at 5.30am as the computer system did not register the new day until after midnight. Having had problems before I pointed out that I was getting in my taxi and going to the airport regardless of whether their payment system or my credit card was working - but still no deal!

However, I think sanity must have registered as I have just got back from paying at 7.30 pm. I have a pro forma invoice – I collect the “real” on in the morning. So, if you have an early departure they can take your payment.

Overall Value-for-Money

Even for a 3* hotel – albeit with 5* potential! – at €70 per night (corporate rate) the hotel represents very good value-for-money.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have light but are noisy; those at the back slightly quieter but dark!

I don't know the rooms, but I love the restaurant of Hotel Sirius for 3 reasons: the great view (particularly when we can sit outside), the fabulous Trileqe (traditional desert, best in town), and the nice wine. Also the food and service are very good, best when you come in smaller groups.
