Have a local person guide you through the narrow streets filled with locals selling fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, meat and used stuff.

I walked through the center on a market day. Needless to say the atmosphere is typically Moroccan; everyone bargaining for their food and clothes. Not that many tourists visit here so you can get yourself a djalaba or some cashew nuts at reasonable prices; and service with a smile. You can find some magnificent original Spanish doors around the center as well as some Jewish influences in the architecture. Definitely worth a visit. PS: If you get lost, don't be afraid to ask a local to show you the way out of the small streets.

I have writing reviews for TripAdvisor for quite sometime now, however I seem to have missed recommending this little gem tucked away in the north of Morocco.
This is not your resort city a la Ibiza, but it offers you the three big S's sea, sand and s-ky, oh yes that's available too, all at moderate prices.
You won't find the tattooed gangsters you meet in Mallorca, but who needs those?
The only bad thing about Tetouan is that due to bad economy, people try all sorts of tricks to take your money, a bit of patience, care and use of thinking will see you safely through.
Top notches:
1- fruits. So fresh, sweet and cheap
2- being next doors to Spain, you may grab a bargain if you go near the gates
3- the perfect holiday romance
4- sea there is paradise on earth
5- seafood is so good and cheap

drawbacks:
1- people although friendly, they may try the odd trick on you
2- hotels are few
3- don't ever go near the sea resorts which are for foreigners only like Kabila, capo negro, etc, they are but a ripoff, prices may go as high as £200/night, at average Mallorca quality, and to make it even worse, they are so far from town, you'd think you've been in a prison.

all in all, do your homework, ask plenty and then go, you will be alright

Amazing little town, full of all the traditional products. Everyone is always kind here, and speak a bit of Spanish and also a bit of English ( occasionally!). The streets are very small, and disorientating, which is fun, although I would advise to get a guide - we had one, who was around Marina Smir, where we had come in on our boat- as you may find it quite hard to get out of the Medina. However, this is a definite if you are anywhere near Tanger or that area.

Absolutely superb! Full of colours, smell of spices and friendly people. It can be a shock for someone who has not visited a medina before but it is great to visit the maze of narrow streets and the village-like atmosphere. You can learn some arabic by listening to the locals but if you know Spanish you won't have any problem as many of them can speak a bit.
